All Ireland Club Semi-Final.
Dr Crokes 1-9 ---------- Moorefield 0-12.
Our inability to score more than a point
in the last twenty four minutes of this exciting, well
contested and clean match may have cost us victory but
over the sixty four minutes Moorefield well deserved a
draw. They had in fact a late free to win the game but
it fell short and Eoin Brosnan cleared.
Our opponents settled the better and went two
points ahead after five minutes. In the seventh minute
we had a brilliant Colm Cooper goal and he added on two
points in the next five minutes to put us a goal in
front. The teams exchanged points in the first ten
minutes of the second quarter on two occasions but
Moorefield added on another minor to reduce our lead to
a point. A point from a free by James Fleming in the
30th minute gave us an interval lead of two points, 1-5
to 0-6.
We had our best spell of dominance in the third
quarter, scoring three points to our opponents one to go
four points clear after forty minutes. The defining
moment of the game came a minute later. In an unfortunate
rather than a wrong option we tried to set up a goal
from a short free but Brian Looney's effort went
narrowly wide. If we had scored a goal it would have
probably ended the game as a contest. A point from the
free would have put us five points in front. From the
kick out our opponents attacked and scored a point to
leave just three points between the teams. The teams
swopped points in the next tan minutes, theirs coming in
the 43rd minute and ours in the 54th to leave us still
three points ahead. Moorefield got well on top in the
remaining ten minutes(four minutes of added time were
played) and added on three points without reply to get a
deserved draw, 1-9 for us and 0-12 for Moorefield.
