East Kerry Junior League 2007

2006

As we topped the Table in this League we qualified for the final. Kilcummin won the battle between 2nd and 3rd placed team and the right to meet us in the decider.

Final    ---Dr Crokes  1-10  --- Kilcummin  1-8.(Played in Fossa on Tuesday 26th June)

In a game that could have gone either way we ran out two point winners over Kilcummin in the Patrick Doyle sponsored East Kerry Junior League final. This victory was achieved by virtue of we finishing the stronger and scoring two points in the last few minutes of a game that looked to be heading for a draw.

Our opponents started very much the better and were well worthy of their four points to one lead at the end of the first quarter. The story could have been much worse two minutes later only for Andrew O'Connell's top class save. The introduction of Ian Howard to midfield  gave us the edge in this sector for the remaining of the half. Kilcummin were always dangerous when they went on the attack and even though we added three points to our total before the interval our opponents managed two points to go in at the break 0-6 to 0-4 in front.

In the first ten minutes of the second half we had two points without reply to equalise the game. The teams exchanged points in the next five minutes so it was all to play for going into the last quarter. When Kilcummin had a goal in the 47th minute it put them firmly in the driving seat but we equalised straight away, a sublime pass from Brian Clarke clinically finished to the net by Mike O'Grady. The teams exchanged points in the next few minutes but we finished the stronger , adding on two points for a 1-10 to 1-8 victory.

Congratulations to the team, indeed all the panel and our mentors James Cronin, John O'Shea and Eddie O'Connor who worked so hard all the year to achieve this victory.

Dr.Crokes  3-10  Currow  1-7.

Played in Lewis road on Tuesday night our junior team recorded a comprehensive victory over a young but spirited Currow side. We got off to a great start putting on 1-5 before could register a score. The defence was well on top through the game with some excellent performances, and The currow forwards  found it tough to get easy scores. The half-time score was Crokes 2-06  Currow 0-4. The game ended as a contest when we got another goal early and we went on to record some well taken points,Currow didn’t give up and got rewards for their efforts with a well taken penalty, and then some nice points. This was a good solid performance from the crokes and should provide the platform to build consistency and enable us to improve our overall play. Our next game is against Glenflesk and no date has been set as our u21 game is fixed for next Tuesday night in Lewis road.
