Kilcummin
3-8 ------ Dr Crokes 1-13(Played
in Lewis Rd on Tuesday 8th April)
In a game in which we had every
chance of winning we lost out by a point to Kilcummin on
Tuesday last. Our opponents won with a goal on the
stroke of full time but in fairness to them they
engineered three good goals during the hour. We did get
two chances in injury time to equalise the game but
wided on both occasions.
On a night suited to good
football both teams performed to a standard that
was often well above Junior grade. Kilcummin had a point
in the first minute but by the end of the first quarter
we had scored 0-8 without reply to lead 0-8 to 0-1.The
second fifteen minutes belonged to our opponents who
scored 2-3 to our nil to go in at the interval 2-4 to
0-8 in front.
The teams exchanged points in
the first five minutes of the second half but a goal and
a point from Ian Howard and a point from Shane O'Neill
put us three points ahead at the end of the third
quarter. Kilcummin had two points to our one in the next
ten minutes to leave us two points ahead with five
minutes to go. We withstood our opponents pressure for
the next four minutes but were not able to stop their
last ditch attack which yielded a match winning goal. We
did have two chances to equalise but were narrowly wide
with our efforts.
Alan Kelly could not be faulted
for the goals. Best in defence were Kevin Landers, Donal
Cronin and Kevin Smyth. We had plenty of possession from
midfielders Ian Howard and James Jones. In attack Andrew
Kennelly (it's great to see him back), Shane O'Neill and
Denis Galvin were best.
