COISTE NA OG EAST KERRY U16 Dr Crokes 1- 13 Kenmare 0- 06. Our U16's had a satisfactory start to their East Kerry League campaign with a deserved victory against Kenmare. Dr. Crokes took a while to settle but once we got into our stride, we kicked some lovely points with good interlink play between the backs and forwards. Goalie Keith Flynn made a great save from a Kenmare penalty just on the stroke of half time and the Kenmare lads seemed to lose heart thereafter. Our lads pushed on in the second half and ran out comfortable winners. This was a real team effort with no stars on the day and it was good to see all the forwards getting on the score sheet. Coughlan, J. O' Shea, M. O' Shea, M. Sexton, D. Brosnan, R. Clifford, D. Sheehan. LADIES FOOTBALL A meeting to discuss all aspects of Dr Crokes Ladies Football was held 9 Feb 2010. A report was received from Catherine Keogh highlighting the unprecedented success achieved on the playing fields in the last calendar year, with underage East Kerry & County titles aplenty and the year being crowned with a County Junior Title for the senior ladies team. Catherine is now taking a well earned break from her managerial roles after 12 exhaustive years and 2009’s successes are testimony to the hard work and dedication of Catherine and the other managerial teams. A number of critical issues were then discussed including Coach Education, Health & Safety and the perennial problem of an elongated playing year for juveniles, along with a fragmented fixture list. Managerial/ Coaching teams for 2010, from U6 to U16 were then selected. The most important item on the agenda was the need to recruit assistants to the dedicated coaches, from senior players, retired players, parents and guardians. Anyone interested in becoming involved in any capacity with Dr Crokes Juvenile Ladies Teams, from U12 to U16 are earnestly requested to contact Coiste na Og Chairman, Terry Potts. @ 085-8426667. The recent growth in participation in Ladies Football must be accompanied by an increased parental involvement on the mentoring side, in order for the game to continue to flourish.
