Molyneaux Cup Final Result
Dr Crokes 1-13 Ardfert 1-10(Played in
Ballymac on Sunday 14th Oct 07)
The teams exchanged points on two
occasions in the first five minutes. We went into
overdrive for the next twenty minutes , notching 1-8
without reply. Ardfert had a point in the 29th minute,
we one in the 30th and another in injury time to leave
us 1-11 to 0-4 ahead at the interval.
Our opponents seemed to have energised
themselves at the break, scoring 1-4 without reply in
the first ten minutes to leave just three points between
the sides. It was nip and tuck for the next fifteen
minutes during which we scored two points and denied
Ardfert a score through strong defending. Our opponents
finished the better with two late points and were
narrowly wide with a blistering shot in the last minute
which would have given them equality.
In defence David Neeson, Brian
O'Donoghue, The outstanding Kevin Smyth and Ian Howard
were best. Daithi Casey gave a man of the match
performance at midfield , ably assisted by Johnny
O'Sullivan. We were best served in attack by Ruairi Mangan,
Brian Clarke and David O'Leary.A special word of praise
for the evergreen Tommy Brosnan who foraged all over the
field to ensure this victory.
After having been in cruise control in
the first half at the end of which we had a ten point
lead we were on the back foot for a lot of the second
half and just about deserved the spoils at the end of a
very clean and exciting game.
A special word of praise to our
mentors James Cronin, John O'Shea and Eddie O'Connor for
their outstanding work with the team during the year.
They have now won the Molyneaux Cup and the East Kerry
Junoir League and have also qualified for the O'Sullivan
Cup final.
