Round 1 ----- Dr Crokes
0-10 Kerins O'Rahillys 3-4.
Goals win games and this was the story
once again in our match against Kerins O'Rahillys. Even
though we had ten scores to their seven , their three
goals gave them a three point win, and qualification for
the next round.
Our opponents got off to a good start,
with two points in the first five minutes. We equalised
in the next five minutes. Kerins O'Rahillys went through
for the first of their three goals in the 20th minute
and followed up with a point a minute later, to go four
points clear. We had a point a minute later but our
opponents caught our defence off guard in the 23rd
minute, racing through for a goal for a six point lead.
We had the last two scores of the half, two points, to
go in at half time, four points in arrears, 2-3 to 0-5.
We had nearly all the play in the
third quarter but all we had to show for it were three
points and double that amount in wides, to go into the
last quarter, a point in arrears, 2-3 to 0-8. We
unfortunately allowed our opponents in for a well taken
goal in the 48th minute for a four point lead. We again
dominated the last ten minutes but missed chances and
good defensive work by Kerins O'Rahillys denied us
scores. We did score two points to their one in this
period but fell short by three points at the final
whistle.
David Neeson could not be blamed for
the goals conceded. Best in defence were Conor O'Neill,
Kieran Ward and Shane Myers. Ian Howard and Barra
O'Connell gave us supremacy at midfield. Denis Galvin,
Shane O'Neill and Keith O'Leary were best in attack.
