Round 2 ---- Dr Crokes 2-12
-------- Legion 1-10.
This display even surpassed our
previous display against Austin Stacks in the County
Shield. We were the underdogs and this helped us. We led
by six points early in the second half, after going in
at the interval four points in front. Our opponents got
on top at this juncture and 1-5 to our 0-1 by the 50th
minute put them a point ahead. Killian Fitzgerald
equalised with a great 45 and we dug deep in the last
five minutes and scored two goals to Legion's point for
a five point victory. We were well worth our victory
even if the margin was a bit flattering.
We had a great first half, scoring
seven points to our opponents three, all but one of our
scores coming from play. We knew we would have to
replicate that display in the second half as Legion were
going to come out with all guns blazing. This they did
even though we went six points ahead by the 38th minute.
Our opponents got well on top in the next ten minutes
and outscored us 1-5 to 0-1 to go a point in front.
Killian Fitzgerald equalised with a great 45 and a goal
two minutes later put us three points in front. Legion
had a point a minute from time to reduce the deficit but
an injury time goal by Alex O'Sullivan wrapped up the
points for us.

Round 1 -- Dr Crokes
2-6---- Kilcummin 2-13. (Played in Kilcummin on
Sunday 28th June)
We went under to a strong Kilcummin
team on Sunday last. There was no doubt that our
opponents were the better team but a sequence of play
ten minutes after half time decided this contest. We
were seven points down at this stage and forced a
penalty. We failed to score from the kick and to add
insult to injury, Kilcummin went down the field, scored
a goal and put winning out of our reach. The opposition
may have taken the foot off the pedal in the remaining
twenty minutes, a period that saw us score 1-1 to their
0-1.
The first half was evenly contested.
We had the wind at our back during this period and the
1-5 to 1-4 lead by Kilcummin was going to make our
effort for victory not easy. Our opponents opened a ten
point gap by the 10th minute, registering 1-7 to our
0-1. Then came our no score from the penalty and their
goal from their next offensive. We didn't lie down but
put in a great last twenty minutes that yielded just 1-1
to Kilcummin's one point.
Our opponents seven point win was well
deserved but we can also take some positives out of the
game.
