Munster Senior League -- Semi-Final(Played
in Pairc Ui Caoimh on Sunday 26th Nov 06)
Dr Crokes 2-10 --------- Nemo Rangers
0-10.
In a display that bettered almost any we
have produced since our All Ireland victory of 1992 we
ran out six point winners over Nemo Rangers . Our
opponents record up to now in the competition is
impeccable(13 wins from 14 starts) and they lost nothing
in defeat on Sunday last. We were completely on top of
our game after a lethargic start and controlled the
vital midfield sector for most of the game. This was
achieved through the efforts of the outstanding Eoin
Brosnan and the very solid Ambrose O'Donovan who gets
better with every game. Our defence gave very little
away and our attack performed as a unit and on the day
could afford the luxury of more wides than usual. Our
talisman Colm Cooper was involved in almost every thing
up front. One should not be picking out individuals
after a display like this where every man from one to
fifteen was a star.
It's a pity we weren't winning silverware after
such an effort and we will have to produce a similar
display on Sunday week to be crowned champions. It would
be nice to see James Fleming receiving the Michael
O'Connor cup, a just reward for his great displays all
year.
Nemo got off to the better start and led 0-3 to
0-1 after five minutes. The teams were on level terms
five minutes later. We outscored our opponents seven
points to one in the second quarter and this laid the
foundations of our win.
The teams exchanged points after half time. Then
came our two goals, a vintage Colm Cooper effort in the
38th minute after a great assist from Andrew Kennelly
and a good opportunistic effort from Brian Looney in the
44th minute. We were now 2-9 to 0-6 in front entering
the last quarter.
We went into defensive mode after that but Nemo
were not going to give over their title easily and
launched waves of attack. They added on four points to
our one in this period and nearly got a lifeline in the
last few minutes when their piledriver hit the crossbar.
Our defence saw to it that we would hang on for a six
point win.
This was our day in the sun and even though
ours was a great display it was still only the
penultimate round of the competition and we will have to
produce the goods again on December the 10th. One can
rest assured that Nemo will be back to add to their
thirteen titles in the near future.
