SENIOR CO. FOOTBALL LEAGUE - DIV. 1; ROUND 9: Dr Crokes 2-22 Castleisland Desmonds 1-07. We had a comprehensive win in this Round 9 game against Desmonds on Saturday last. our players were determined to put last weekends defeat behind them, right from the start. We were six points ahead at the end of the first quarter. We kept on the front foot for the remainder of the half and a goal in the 21st minute virtually put us into an unassailable lead. We continued to add on scores and went in at half time with a commanding lead. Our opponents were much more competitive in the second half and held their own score wise in this thirty minutes. We did however run out easy winners at the end. Desmonds were missing some key players and that made our task that much easier. A positive from the game was that twelve of our players got on the score sheet. Our top scorers were Kieran O'Leary 0-5 and Bryan O'Shea 0-4, all nine points from play. Team: Shane Murphy, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Luke Quinn, Alan O'Sullivan, Gavin White, David O'Leary, Eoin Brosnan, Daithi Casey, Shane Doolan, Gavin O'Shea, Bryan O'Shea, Tony Brosnan, Kieran O'Leary, Chris Brady.
Subs: Jason Lyne, Paul Clarke, Johnny O'Leary, Cillian Fitzgerald, PJ Lawlor.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING C'SHIP SEMI-FINAL: Dr. Crokes 0-13, Kilmoyley 2-15 AET. We met Kilmoyley in Caherslee, Tralee in the Semi-Final of the Intermediate Hurling Championship on Tuesday last. This was a game we should have won in normal time but a controversial 65 awarded to the opposition with less than 5 minutes to go in normal time meant extra-time was required. We started the game strong, opening scoring and pushing to a 0-02 to 0-00 lead within the first 5 minutes. A serious injury to a Kilmoyley player brought the match to a stop for medical attendance. On resumption, the sides were level and both enjoyed purple patches during the course of the half. At the interval, Dr. Crokes were in the lead on 0-09 to 0-08. Points were constantly exchanged in the second half, with the sides leveling on 5 occasions. A high ball was dropped into the Dr Crokes square late in the half which was deflected and appeared to be wide. While the umpire confirmed this, the referee overruled and awarded a 65 which was converted. Seanie Morris leveled matters before the final whistle to push the game into extra time at 0-13 a-piece. This was the point on which the game turned. Kilmoyley attacked from the throw-in, heading straight for goal and scoring within the opening seconds. The pace of the game had caught up with us and a similar Kilmoyley effort at the start of the second half put them 8 points up with less than 10 minutes left. We performed well in this game but eventually rued missed chances including scorable frees. It was a great team effort with some inspirational points from Captain Brendan McMahon from a long range free and Rory Waters travelling from half back to score from play. Anthony Keogh had a tremendous game in corner-back, getting in some vital interceptions and relieving pressure on numerous occasions. Mike Milner was well marshaled in mid-filed but put in a huge performance often delivering to Seanie Morris who was a constant threat in the full-forward line. Team: Jamie Lenihan, Anthony Keogh, Kevin Landers, Shane Kavanagh, Rory Waters, Brendan McMahon (C), Barry O'Grady, Jack Lenihan, Mike Milner, Chris Doncel, Mike McCarthy, Cian O'Brien, Seanie Morris, Shane Spellman, Seanie Burchill. Subs: John Ivory, Conor Fitzgerald, Dan Guerin, Kevin Smith. Finally, best wishes on a speedy recovery to the Kilmoyley player who sustained the injury in the first half.

LOTTO: Draw took place in J.C. O'Sheas on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 1, 8, 20, 22. No winner of the jackpot of €6,000. Match 3, 6 players each received €70. Next weeks jackpot is €6,300. Draw will take place in the Speakeasy on Sunday 24th July 2016.

SENIOR CO. FOOTBALL LEAGUE - DIV. 1; ROUND 8: Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-11, Dr Crokes 0-10. In a game in which we failed for the most part to break down a well marshaled Glenbeigh/Glencar defence we ended up with our first defeat in this years competition. We had more wides in this game than we usually have but some of them resulted in poor shot selection. I do however feel that the home team deserved to win even though we could have got a draw out of it as the teams were level going into injury time. We have however everything to play for in the competition as we are still joint leaders. The teams exchanged points on several occasions in the first half and were level after 20 minutes at five points each. Our opponents had a great last ten minutes to the half, scoring three points without reply. This put them 0-08 to 0-05 in front at half time. Glenbeigh went a further point ahead in the 35th minute. We were well on top in the next fifteen minutes and four points without reply gave us equality with ten minutes to go. The locals went a point ahead in the 53rd minute. A few minutes later our keeper Shane Murphy had the point of the game to equalise, a free from well outside the opposition fifty hard line. Glenbeigh/Glencar however struck for the winning point in injury time from a feww by Gavin O'Grady who was unerringly accuarte throughout the game. All is still to play for as we face the last three games in the competition. I'm sure every effort will be made to ensure that we reach the Final of this League and retain the Trophy. The old cliche that you learn more from defeat than victory might be relevant to us as we prepare for the remainder of this competition and the other Championships we are engaged in. Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy 0-01, John Payne, Luke Quinn, Mike Moloney, Jason Lyne, Alan O'Sullivan 0-01, Mike Milner, Eoin Brosnan, PJ Lawlor, Kieran O'Leary 0-02, Gavin O'Shea 0-01, Brian Looney 0-01 (free), Tony Brosnan 0-03 (0-02 frees), Daithi Casey 0-01 (free), Chris Brady
Subs: David O'Leary, Jamie Doolan, Gavin White, Shane Doolan, Cillian Fitzgerald.
Dr Crokes Best Player - John Payne.

FOOTBALL - U16: The Under 16's had an impressive win over Firies on Wednesday evening in Lewis Road. A goal separated the sides in the end, 1-12 to 1-09.

SHAVE FOR AMY: Amy is a 9 year old Dr Crokes Footballer who is currently battling against a serious illness. Her dad, Brendan, is a very active coach at underage and senior football in the ladies section of our club. Brendan works in the post office and in the Killarney Fire Station. A fundraiser, to assist Amy and her family with ongoing expenses associated with her treatment programme, will take place on Friday next July 22nd in Kieran O'Leary’s K-Town Bar at 8.00 p.m. This fundraiser, run by members of the Fire Station, members of the Post Office, members of Dr Crokes and other friends will require our club to sell tickets for the night (€10), provide a number (6) of our members who will volunteer to have their head shaved, beard shaved (or maybe ladies to  have their legs waxed), and provide a number of spot prizes for the night. Tickets are available from the Kerry GAA Store, the Tatler Jack, from team managers and from the Club Secretary Paul or Chairperson Denis. This is a cause that everybody needs to row in behind. Please buy a ticket (even if you have no interest in going) or sell a ticket – our club has 500 tickets to sell over the next few days – time to #GetBehindTheBus.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING C'SHIP QTR-FINAL: Dr. Crokes 2-15 Ladies Walk 1-04. This Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final took place last Tuesday in Lewis Road. We dominated for the majority of this game, pushing clear of Ladies Walk early in the second half. To their credit, Ladies Walk did not concede defeat and continued contesting to the very end. Mike Milner was a constant threat in the full-forward line and won an early free for Mike McCarthy to open scoring. The defence, led by captain Brendan McMahon, resisted the oppositions attack and delivered vital possession to the forwards. A scramble in the square under a high ball led to our opening goal, Seanie Burchill was quickest to react to the breaking ball from the defence and made no mistake. The Ladies Walk target man in full-forward did claim a goal before half-time but some close marshaling by Kevin Landers made sure this was the only one conceded. A couple of changes at half-time made for a better second half performance by Crokes. A sideline cut from Barry O'Grady found Shane Spellman at the edge of the square who struck the net. Seanie Morris was unlucky to miss a goal chance soon after but secured a point nonetheless. The defence became virtually unbreachable, Anthony Keogh working tirelessly to clear the full-back line with Shane Kavanagh. Ladies Walk were also punished for fouls with Jack Lenihan unerring from placed balls as well as covering the majority of the field for the duration of the game. Overall, a good performance but also one on which can be built on. We are now in the Semi-Final to play Kilmoyley in John Mitchel's, Tralee on Tuesday 19th July. Throw-in 7:00pm. Team: Jamie Lenihan, Shane Kavanagh, Kevin Landers, Anthony Keogh, Barry O'Grady, Brendan McMahon (C), Rory Waters, Shane Spellman, Jack Lenihan, Chris Doncel, Mike McCarthy, Seanie Burchill, Seanie Morris, Mike Milner, Conor Fitzgerald. Subs: Cian O'Brien, Dan Guerin, Kevin Smith.

FOOTBALL - U14: The Black team proved that 'goals win games' in their victory over Kenmare in the final round of the East Kerry League on Sunday evening. The young Crokes players did not waste anytime finding their bearings on the Kenmare field and got the scoreboard ticking early in the game. The Crokes stuck five goals past the Kenmare goalkeeper in a well-deserved 5-09 to 2-13 victory.

SENIOR CO. FOOTBALL LEAGUE - DIV. 1; ROUND 9: Dr Crokes 1-13 Dingle 1-13. Two points at the end of game, one in injury time enabled us to draw this game with Dingle on Saturday last. We were on top for the first forty minutes and had gone six points ahead with twenty minutes to go. Our opponents completely dominated for the rest of the game. For most of the third quarter, we couldn't get the ball out of our own half. We conceded six points without reply as Dingle drew level. Many of these points were from frees that we gave away too easily. We had a point to go in front in the 55th minute but a great goal two minutes later put our opponents into a two point lead. We did show abit of composure at the end and two points from Tony Brosnan equalised the game. We were happy at the end to have forced a draw and still remain unbeaten. The teams exchanged points on two occasions in the first ten minutes. A goal and a point by Brian Looney at this juncture put us into a four point lead. We went even further ahead by the 25th minute, 1-07 to 0-05 but Dingle had two points before half time to leave us 1-07 to 0-07 ahead at interval. We were well on top in the first ten minutes of the second half and had three points without reply to go 1-10 to 0-07 in front. Dingle took over completely in the next fifteen minutes, during which period they scored six unanswered points and equality on the scoreboard. We went back in front five minutes from time with a PJ Lawlor point. Dingle attacked from the kick out and got through for a goal and a two point lead. Tony Brosnan came to our rescue with two points, the second one in injury time and a point on the table for both sides. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, David O'Leary, Mike Moloney, Gavin White, Jason Lyne, Mike Milner, Shane Doolan, Johnny Bickley, Ambrose O'Donovan 0-01, Kieran O'Leary 0-03, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney 1-03, Tony Brosnan 0-04 (0-02 frees), Chris Brady 0-01, Daithi Casey Subs: PJ Lawlor 0-01, John Payne, Cillian Fitzgerald. Dr Crokes Best Player - Daithi Casey.

SENIOR HURLING: We traveled to Kilmoyley to meet the home side on Wednesday last for the Semi-final of the County Hurling League - Division 2. Kilmoyley got off to the better start, opening with points from play. Some strong fielding and accurate passing from Kilmoyley saw them push into an early lead before we could respond. Tim Hourigan did cause Kilmoyley some grief in the square, breaking balls down to the incoming Jack Lenihan to score 2 goals, one in each half. Mike Milner produced some fine points and covered a lot of ground around the middle of the park with Kevin Landers & Brendan McMahon strong in the defence. Kilmoyley's lead became much more substantial following 2 goals before half time. While we pulled together a better second half performance, the home side ran out the eventual winners. This game provided some valuable lessons in anticipation for our Intermediate Championship Quarter Final this Tuesday where we host Lady's Walk in Lewis Road. Throw-in 7:30pm.
