Club Championship - Round 2

Played in Kerins O'Rahillys Pitch

Dr Crokes 2-13 Kerins O'Rahillys 1-14

This was a very hard earned victory and it was our point scoring in the second half that got us over the line. We hit eleven points from play in the second thirty minutes.

We played second fiddle to the Tralee team in the first half and were probably lucky to be just a point behind at the interval. We had just four scores in this first thirty minutes to our opponents nine and were behind 0-9 to 2-2.

Our opponents had a point at the start of the second half to go two points clear. The rest of the third quarter belonged to us as we scored seven points, all from play to Kerins O'Rahillys one point. This left us four points clear with fifteen minutes to go. The teams exchanged points at the start of the fourth quarter but our opponents broke through for a goal in the 50th minute to leave just a point between the teams and it was very much game on. We outscored our Tralee opponents four points to three in the remaining minutes for a two point victory at the full time whistle.

Even though our eleven points from play got us over the line in the end great credit goes to our backs who defended heroically in those closing minutes.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, David Naughton, Mike Moloney Fionn Fitzgerald, Jason Lyne, Shane Doolan, David O'Leary, Johnny Buckley 0-3, Paul Clarke, Micheal Burns 0-1, Alan O'Sullivan 0-1, Brian Looney, Tony Brosnan 0-4, Daithi Casey 1-2, Kieran O'Leary 1-2.

Subs: Micael Potts, Colm Cooper, Eoin Brosnan, Brian Fitzgerald, David Shaw, Jordan Kiely.

Under 12 Girls

Our U12 girls played the second round of their County League Preliminaries (to determine Divisions) last Tuesday evening in Beaufort.
We started brightly but with tough soggy conditions, both teams struggled to move forward at any great pace. In a very competitive first half with Jocelyn Hickey, Leah McMahon & Sarah Cooper working extremely hard we went in at the short whistle just 3 points adrift of a good Beaufort side.
The second half started with Beaufort slightly getting the upper hand with possession but great defending by Saoirse O'Sullivan & Grainne Byrne kept their scores to a minimum. Unfortunately, two of our players had to be substituted due to injuries within a couple of minutes of each other and this is when Beaufort drove forward and took their scores well.
We finished with a flourish with 2 fantastic scores from Ali O'Donoghue but we had left too much to do. Well done to Beaufort.
Final score Dr Crokes 3-3 Beaufort 5-10.

Join the Kerry County Clean-Up Team
We are inviting all our local GAA clubs to get involved in the Kerry County Clean-Up.  The participation of ours clubs will add greatly to the County Clean-up team.  We are asking that clubs arrange a litter clean-up on Saturday April 14th in the locality where their club grounds are located. Last year, 5,000 volunteers county wide gathered 6,500 bags of litter on a single day in their own localities which left the county of Kerry looking spick and span. This years County Clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 14th. The Annual County Clean-Up is run with the support of Kerry Co. Council and KWD Recycling.  To register your clubs participation in the County Clean-Up please register with KWD e-mail Angela on countycleanup@kwd.ie.  Upon registration KWD Recycling will provide your club with bags and high visibility vest and they will also agree a date and location for pick-up of the collected litter.
