Under 16 Girls

Round 4 of the county league took place in Cloon Killorglin on Friday evening. Our girls took a while to settle which afforded a strong and physical Laune Rangers outfit to put 1-3 on the board without reply for the Crokes girls. We eventually settled down and got to grips with the home team. A pointed free from Niamh Stack got the crokes onto the scoreboard followed by a fine point from birthday girl Ava Sheahan. Goals followed from Sarah McMahon and Jade Potts and another free from Niamh Stack meant we went in at half time only 4 down. 1-10 to 2-3.

Crokes girls started the second half much better and a fine goal from Ava Sheahan followed by points from Treasa o Sullivan Niamh Stack Jade Potts put us ahead after 10 minutes in the second half. Laune Rangers were not to lie down tho and a couple of points kept them level going into the last 10 minutes. 3 fantastic saves by our u14 keeper Faith Lockett kept Crokes  in the game along with Caoilinn o Donoghue and Holly Power Megan Graham but Rangers older and stronger team eventually pulled ahead with only a few minutes left. We pulled two points back from Jess Leahy and sub Kelly o Sullivan. Overall a very good performance against a team who have 5 players on the Kerry u16 panel.

Happy birthday to Ava Sheahan who celebrated with a cake from her teammates after the game.

Under 14 girls Division 3 County League

Despite solid displays from Niamh O Donoghue,Selina and Amy Clifford our U 14 girls come up short in their first two outings in division 3 of their county league. However, they  got off the blocks with a win over Laune Rangers recently.Even though the teams forward line were getting good possession  throughout  the first half they were finding it difficult to clock up the scores .Anchored on some inspirational  defending from Rocha Clifford,Teagan O Sullivan and Kyla O Leary that kept our opponents  within sight, the forwards  eventually found  their rhythm.Kate O Donoghue, Pia Hickey(who would both finish the game with 1-02)  and Rebecca Fleming all got  first half points but it was Cara O Sullivan's goal that kept the team in touch at half time.A number of positional switches for the second half along with the introduction of Ava McCarthy,Jean Foley,Aisling Crowe and Eimer Finn set the team up for a powerful second half display.Lucey O Leary and Laura O Sheas(0-3) move to mid field helped the cause immensely. Sarra Neher added to the lock down that Emma Kelly(0-1) and Sinead Oliver had established  in the half  back line. Both Laura O Carroll and Kelly O Sullivan cover the pitch from goal to goal and were instrumental in the team adding 2-08 to their first half tally. As much and all as things were going their way, if it were not for some brave defending from Amy Leahy  towards the end of the game and a number of great clearances from Faith Lockett in goals, they might  not have had the 4 point winning margin at the end.
