Weekly Notes on 1st of October

Senior County Championship - Quarter Final

Dr Crokes 1-20 Killarney Legion 0-9

Played in Fitzgerald Stadium

In a game which never reached the heights of a local derby we ran out easy winners in the end. There were a few handbag incidents in the first half but the game was in general devoid of intensity.

Killarney Legion got off to a good start with a point in the first minute. We got on top at midfield after that and sent over thirteen points without reply to go in at the interval leading by 0-13 to 0-1. We had six different scores in this half with six of the point coming from the boot of Tony Brosnan.

Legion started the second half with purpose and sent over three points without reply. We however equalised their three points with a goal by Brian Looney in the 36th minut. We followed up our goal with five unanswered points to leave us in an unassailable lead at the three quarter stage. We were not going to slip up as we did in a recent game and matched our opponents score for score in the last quarter. Our opponents never gave up but our half time leas ensured that we would qualify for the semi-final.

We had eight scorers on the day but we certainly won't be complacent as we need to improve on many facets of our game. Shane Murphy's kick outs were very good right through the game.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne (Capt), Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, Shane Doolan, David O'Leary, Gavin White, Johnny Buckley, Daithi Casey 0-2 (frees), Micheal Burns 0-1, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney 1-2, Tony Brosnan 0-9 (0-4 frees), Kieran O'Leary 0-2, David Shaw 0-2.

Subs: Alan O'Sullivan, Colm Cooper 0-1, Paul Clarke, Jordan Kiely 0-1, Michael Potts, Jason Lyne.

Dr Crokes Girls Under 12 Division 3B Final
Dr Crokes 2-5 Kilcummin 0-3
Our girls definitely saved their best team performance of the year for this East Kerry Final, played in Lewis Road on Tuesday evening last against a gallant Kilcummin side.
Kilcummin started brightly, playing with a strong breeze but our tenacious defenders Grainne Byrne, Jocelyn Hickey, Ella Barrett, Siofra Randles, Ella Bartlett  & Sadhbh Stack were tremendous under this early pressure & managed to keep the opposition to a minimum. Our goalie Natalia Mai, pulled off two first class saves in quick succession. Her kick-outs were super, finding our mid-field duo of Leah McMahon & Ali O'Donoghue with pin-point accuracy.
Our forwards made the best of every opportunity against the breeze, in particular the hard-working Saoirse O'Sullivan and Sinead Byrne.  A pointed free was followed by a great goal by captain Leah McMahon and this put us up by 3 points at half time.
It was all to play for in the second half & the Crokes girls made the better start with 2 lovely points coming from our full forwards Sarah Cooper & Keira Geaney. These scores were as a result of fantastic support play from Clodagh McGorrian, Alana O'Brien & Sabra Hickey. Kilcummin never gave up - the second half was end to end attacking football but our girls were able to hold fast in defence. With 10 minutes remaining, Ali O'Donoghue won the  ball back in her own half, laid it off to Leah McMahon who in turn gave a good ball in to Sarah Cooper in the full forward line. Sarah rounded her defender & gave the Kilcummin keeper no chance - a super score.
The team effort throughout was exceptional, big contributions from Norah McGlynn, Keela O'Connor, Aoileann Ni Dhubháin, Jessie O'Connor Uchytil & Emma Dowling were vital to the whole performance.
Maith sibh cailíní Dr Crócaigh. Your coaches & parents were very proud! We wish Kilcummin the best of luck as they go on to compete in the C final.
