Senior County Championship Semi Final

Played in Austin Stack Park

Dr Crokes 2-19 Kerins O'Rahillys 2-10

This game was level with five minutes to go plus injury time and looked destined to go to a replay. The injury time ran to eight minutes ad it was during this remaining five minutes plus injury time that we got the upper hand. We scored 2-3 to Kerins O'Rahillys 0-1 in this period for a nine point victory. There was no way that we deserve to win by this amount but it came about because our bench was strong and one of our substitutes scored two goals.

Our opponents got off to a great start and had an early goal and a point without reply. We sent over five unanswered points to get on level terms by the end of the first quarter. We continued to kick points in the second quarter, six to add to our first quarter tally of five. O'Rahillys matched our second quarter score with 1-3 to leave the teams level at half time 2-5 to 0-11.

Our opponents had the first two scores of the second half, two points but we quickly equalized. The teams exchanged points before the end of the third quarter to leave the teams still level at 2-8 to 0-14. The Tralee lads went ahead with a point in the 52nd minute but the game changer came in the next three minutes when we notched 1-2 to go four points clear. There were a lot of open spaces in the last five minutes, plus injury time as both teams had a man sent off. Our opponents were without their full complement of player for larger than us and we scored 1-2 to Kerins O'Rahillys 0-1 in injury time and scored our place in the Final.

We wish our goalie Shane Murphy a speedy recovery from injury and also the Kerins O'Rahillys player who was injured during the game.

Dr Crokes U12A 2-14 Legion U12A 5-08

A cracking game of football tonight in Direen in very difficult conditions. A goal-line clearance by a legion defender from Crokes in the last attack was the difference in the end..A strong win made it a game of two halves and Crokes led by 1-09 to 3-01at half time. The defense played really with Mark Carroll in goal and defenders Dara Griffin, Adam Byrne and Mike Murphy outstanding with a good second half from Gearoid Sugrue. Midfielders Neil O Carroll 0-6 and Leah Mc Mahon 0-1 were outstanding with forwards Noah Sexton 0-1 and Mathew Moynihan 1-0 worked really hard. Inside forwards Nathan Cronin 0-2 and Liam Hennigan 1-05 had fine games and subs Ciaran Boyne and Anton Donchev played well when introduced.. While the whole team played really well with good performances. Player of the match has to go to the outstanding Leah Mc Mahon. She was also player of the match in a national cup final with Kerry schoolgirls recently.W hat an unbelievable talent.Well done to Legion team and mentors on their win in a fine sporting game with the excellent standard of football on view.Well done to all.

Under 16 East Kerry Championship

The U16 East Kerry Championship Final kicked off last Friday evening in Fitzgerald’s Stadium in beautiful September sunshine. The game began at pace and our U16’s got off to a strong start. From the outset we put huge pressure on the opposition and with excellent team work throughout, coupled with some well taken scores we ended the first half well on top on a score line of 1-9 to 4 points.

As expected, Rathmore came out fighting and dominated the third quarter of the game. The Dr Crokes backs were sticky and tenacious in their tackling and blocking and withstood this Rathmore onslaught. Overall, the second half was a tight affair with challenges at times going in hot and heavy. However, our gallant U16’s kept Rathmore at bay and saw the game out on a final score line of 2-14 to 13 points.

This was a well-deserved win for the team and culminates a very successful season. We now conclude the year as East Kerry League and Championship winners and finalists in the County League. The lads played and trained diligently all year and are worthy champions.

Well done to everybody involved
