Club Notes Week 43   30/10/2018

Weekly Notes 30th of October

Senior County Championship Final
Played in Austin Stack Park
Dr Crokes 1-15 Dingle 0-12
Even though we won this game in the end by six points we had some anxious moments in the second half. We were always at least two points clear in this second thirty minutes but some great defending and an outstanding save at the start of the third quarter by our goalkeeper Shane Murphy kept us in that position until we pulled away in the last ten minutes. A big contribution to the win came from our bench who responded once again when called upon.
All first three scores in the game came from frees in the first five minutes, Dingle scoring two points to our one. At this stage, we went into overdrive and sent over seven points without reply. Five of these came from David Shaw and Tony Brosnan from long range and off play. Those at the game who felt that the match was over as a contest at this stage got this assumption wrong as our opponents hit back with four unanswered points to leave us just two points ahead at halftime, 0-8 to 0-6. Our Management would have been disappointed that we failed to score in the last ten minutes of this half.
The teams exchanged points on two occasions in the first ten minutes of the second half but then we scored two points without reply for a lead of 0-13 to 0-9 at the end of the third quarter. Two points by Dingle in the next five minutes left us just two points clear with ten minutes to go. We got well on top in these minutes thanks in no small way to the contribution of our subs. We were also helped by the fact that our opponents played this last ten minutes with fourteen men. We outscored Dingle 1-2 to 0-1 in this period. The goal was an outstanding one and was a result of a great run by Gavin White through our opponents' defense. He passed off to Kieran O'Leary who returned a pass to Gavin who finished it to the net.
Our win was achieved by our ability to score points from long range. Our total from the play was twelve points.
Our thanks to Pat O'Shea and his selectors for the great work they put in during the year and their different tactical approach to different games. Our thanks also to our backroom team of Jimmy Galvin, Brian O'Callaghan, Matthew Courtney and Seamus O'Doherty and not forgetting Stephen Brosnan.
Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne (Capt), Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, Gavin White 1-1, David O'Leary, Shane Doolan, Johnny Buckley 0-1, Daithi Casey 0-4 (0-3 frees), Micheal Burns, Gavin O'Shea 0-1, Brian Looney 0-1, Tony Brosnan 0-2, Kieran O'Leary, David Shaw 0-4.
Subs: Colm Cooper, Alan O'Sullivan, Jordan Kiely 0-1, Michael Potts, Eoin Brosnan, Paul Clarke.
It was great that John Payne was nominated as Captain for 2018. He had already won six Senior County Championships and was a great leader throughout the year.
