Club Notes Week 45   12/11/2018

Weekly Notes November 12th 2018

Munster Club Championship - Semi Final

Played in Lewis Road - Dr Crokes Home Pitch

Dr Crokes 5-20 St Finbarrs 1-11

At the outset scores were slow to come. The teams exchanged points in the first eight minutes. We got well on top in the next ten minutes and sent over seven points without reply for a 0-8 to 0-1 lead. St Finbarrs then got on top and a point from a free was followed by a goal to leave just three points between the sides 0-1 to 1-2. The teams exchanged points byt we controlled the last five minutes. We scored 2-2, the goals coming from our midfielders, Johnny Buckley and Daithi Casey. This left us 2-11 to 1-3 in front at half time.

The teams exchanged points at the start of the second half. When we had a point followed by a goal before the 35th minute it left our opponents with a mountain to climb. We were now 3-13 to 1-4 in front. In the last 25 minutes the Cork lads improved alot but our ability to score goals was the difference all day. In this period we scored two goals even though St Finbarrs matched our points number of seven in this twenty minutes.

We would have to be happy with our display which was workmanlike all over the field. The emptying of our bench almost improved our display with 0-3 from Colm Cooper and 1-1 from Jordan Kiely.

A statistic that rarely happens in a game is that our total score was all from play. It was no help to the Barrs that they had to line out without their centre back and right full forward that they lost the influential Michael Shields early in the game.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O'Leary, Gavin White 0-1, Shane Doolan, Johnny Buckley 1-1, Daithi Casey 1-1, Micheal Burns 1-1, Gavin O'Shea 0-1, Brian Looney 0-3, David Shaw 1-3, Kieran O'Leary 0-1, Tony Brosnan 0-4.
