East Kerry Championship Final - O'Donoghue Cup

Dr Crokes 3-24 Kilcummin 0-8 Played in Fitzgerald Stadium In a game in which both teams were missing a number of first team players we ran out comfortable winners. In fairness to Kilcummin our strength in depth ensured that we didn't suffer as much as our opponents when it came to substituting our injured players. The teams exchanged points in the first few minutes of the game. We then sent over five points without reply to go into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The game was evenly contested for the next ten minutes during which period we outscored Kilcummin by two points to one. We more or less ended the game as a contest in the last seven minutes. In this period we scored 2-3 and held our opponents scoreless. The two goals were scored by Kieran O'Leary, the second major, as good a goal as we have scored this year. This gave us a half time lead of 2-11 to 0-3. Kilcummin came very much into the game in the third quarter and even though we shaded this quarter by 0-4 to 0-3, our opponents were very competitive in this period. We got on top again in the last quarter and ran out comfortable winners. On the positive side we had ten players on the score sheet and worked hard throughout. Kilcummin did work hard but found the replacing of many of their first team players beyond them. Congratulations to Micheal Burns on winning Man of the Match Award which he well deserved. Progressive 31 will re-commence on Wednesday 9th of January in Crokes Clubhouse. It will start at 8.00pm. You will need to bring money and a partner €5 per person.
