All Ireland Club Final

Played in Croke Park on Sunday 17th of March

Corofin 2-16 Dr Crokes 0-10

On Sunday last we witnessed as high an intensity performance as i have ever seen by a Club team. Right from the get go we were on the back foot as our opponents attacked relentessly. After seventeen minutes we were only a point down even though we attacked sparingly. When our opponents had a goal in the 22nd minute we were in deep trouble. To add to our woes we lost a player to a red card in the 25th minute. This killed the game as a contest. Corofin had two unanwered points before half time to lead by 2-7 to 0-6 at the interval.

We got the good start we needed at the start of the second half but kicked a series of wides that denied us any comeback. In the 38th minute David Shaw had a goal chance saved at a time when we were eight points behind. Colm Cooper did set up a few chances for his team mates when he came on and Michael Potts good effort going into the last quarter was cleared off the line. The last quarter belonged to our opponents who went on for a decisive victory by 2-16 to 0-10.

Our lads obviously tried their best from the start but Corofin were always on the front foot, a position we have had for nearly all our games in the last three years, winning 76 out of the 80 played. The loss of a player in the 25th minute was a big set back. A full complemeent of players would not have won us the game but the size of the defeat would not have been as much but still a damaged limitations effort.

These players owe us nothing. They have won 7 Senior County Championships, 6 Munster Club Championships and an All Ireland in 2017. I'm not writing their obituary as i expect them to be fighting for major honours one again in 2019.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, Fionn Fitzgerald, Mike Moloney, John Payne (Capt), Shane Doolan, Gavin White, David O'Leary, Johnny Buckley, Daithi Casey 0-3 (0-2 frees), Micheal Burns 0-1, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney, Tony Brosnan 0-5 (0-4 frees), Kieran O'Leary, David Shaw.

Subs: Michael Potts, Colm Cooper, Jordan Kiely, Alan O'Sullivan, Eoin Brosnan, Jason Lyne.

Our sincere thanks to Pat O'Shea and his management team for the great work they have done during a very successful year. They won the Club Championship, the County League Divison 1, the Senior County Championship, The Munster Championship and the East Kerry O'Donoghue Cup.

Our thanks also to our previous management who also contributed greatly to our golden era of the last tweleve years. In this period we have won 7 Senior County Championships, 6 Munster Club Championships, an All Ireland title and several County Leagues, Club Championships and O'Donoghue Cups.

We hope to add to these in the years ahead.

Best of luck

We want to wish the Best of luck to Eoin on his retirement from football. We thank him for his service to our club and for his leadership and influence on every Dr Crokes and Kerry team he played on. Everybody in the club wishes him well in the future and he is assured that he will always be close to our hearts. Eoin Brosnan will be regarded universally and forever as one of the greats of Dr Crokes and his 22 years wearing the Black and Amber will never be forgotten. He brought honour and glory to us through all those years and always carried himself proudly and with immense dignity. We are proud to remember all the service he gave us and we wish him and his family well.

The Club announces that Pat O'Shea has stepped down as manager of our Senior Football Team. This was Pat's own decision and he will be taking up other roles within the Club. We thank Pat for his enormous contribution to Dr Crokes over the past 3 years during which time he delivered one All Ireland, two Munster Championships, three County Championships as well as County Club, County League and an East Kerry Championships. We wish Pat and his family well.
