Weekly Notes 15th of April 2019

Club Championship - Round 2

Played in Lewis Road on Saturday 13th of April

Dr Crokes 1-7 Rathmore 1-9

In a game played in miserable conditions Rathmore played a type of game more suitable to the elements and deservedly won the game by two points. We did have enough chances to get something out of the game and some of our wides were as a result of poor shot selection. When our opponents went in front midway through the second half they played good possession football and turned us over as well on a number of occasions. Even though our opponents had the advantage of the strong breeze in the first half and led 0-3 to 0-1 after ten minutes. We got in front before the end of the first quarter through a Tony Brosnan goal. Rathmore had a point in minutes later but we sent over four points without reply to go ahead 1-5 to 0-4 after 25 minutes. Our opponents outscored us 0-2 to 0-1 in the next five minutes to leave us 1-6 to 0-6 ahead as we went into injury time. In time added on Rathmore struck for a goal which proved to be the defining moment of the game as it gave them equality 1-6 apiece as the teams left the field at half time.As we were aided by the strong breeze in the second half one would have anticipated a Dr Crokes victory. This however was not what happened as our opponents scored three points to our one in the second thirty minutes, all four points from placed balls. Our opponents victory could be credited to great determination and on the ability to hold on to possession in the last quarter when they went into the lead. All our supporters know that these players owe us nothing. We will have to pick ourselves up for next weeks vital game against Kerins O'Rahillys. We can put this game behind us as we look at our positives and negatives of last Sunday and be ready and confident going into this vital encounter. Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, David O'Leary, Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, Michael Potts, David Naughton, Alan O'Sullivan, Johnny Buckley, Daithi Casey 0-3 (frees), Micheal Burns, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney (Capt), David Shaw, Kieran O'Leary 0-1, Tony Brosnan 1-3 (0-1 free)Subs: John Payne, Jordan Kiely, Billy Courtney.

Under 16 Girls
Crokes u16 girls entertained Dingle Annascaul last Wednesday evening. Both teams played with 14 players. After a heavy defeat last week, it looked like another beating was in store as we went 1 goal and 5 points behind before we registered our first score.A few positional changes and we were on a roll and ahead at half time. Dingle came back with a goal and a point without reply at the start of the 2nd half but we moved up a gear and put together some superb passes combined with excellent defending and totally dominated till the end and ran out easy winners at 8-9 to 2-6. A magnificent display of fine football and a deserved victory. Excellent work by the girls keep it going!
