Club Notes Week 19 2019   13/05/2019

Weekly Notes on 13th of May

Senior County League Division 1 Round 3
Austin Stacks 2-7 Dr Crokes 2-4
Played in Connolly Park
Despite having to make eleven changes from the team which contested the Club Final for us we put up a reasonably good performance. With the aid of the strong breeze in the first half we were very much in control and led at the interval by 1-4 to 0-3. The goal was a typical opportunist one by Jordan Kiely who also contributed three points. We would have been disappointed that we shot seven wides in this first half. It seemed that we needed more than a four point lead going into the second half considering that we would be facing the strong wind in this thirty minutes. Even though our players played with great determination we found scores very hard to come by. We just had one score in this second thirty minutes and that from the penalty spot by Daithi Casey.
Great credit to our eleven newcomers from the Club Final and the four lads who played in that final. This fifteen did not let the side down but could not hold out in the second half against a stacks team who were very much in control in this period.
Our players who have played non stop football from January to December over the last three years badly needed a rest. However, we need to get back on the horse for the next County League games. It is far easier to win games at this time of year than later in the year when all Clubs are far more competitive trying to avoid relegation or winning their division.
Team: Johnny O'Leary, David Naughton, Jason Lyne, Brian Fitzgerald, Michael Potts, Fionn Fitzgerald, Lorcan Mac Monagle , Daithi Casey, Mark O'Shea, Chris Doncil, Gavin O'Shea, Jack Griffin, Jordan Kiely, Bryan O'Shea, Mike Casey.

Under 14 Boys
The U14 boys booked their place in the Division 2 County League final following a six point semi-final victory over table toppers Rathmore in Rathbeg. Three first half goals set Crokes on their way to a 3-5 to 1-2 lead at the break. Rathmore came out fighting in the second half and piled the pressure on our boys. The home team reduced the deficit to within a single score before a late Crokes counter-attacking goal sealed a 4-8 to 3-5 victory. The boys will play Listowel Emmet's in the final.
