Club Notes Week 32   15/08/2019

Weekly Notes 12th of August

On Wednesday 7th of August Dr Crokes and Gneeveguilla met in East Kerry Minor League Division 1 played at Lewis Rd.

Crokes prevailed in the end after both sides had displayed some excellent point scoring.

Lorcan Martin and Michael Lenihan raised green flags for the Crokes and the other members of the forward line, Padraig Looney, Sean Magann, Liam Randles, Mark Clifford and Cian McMahon all contributed scores.

Adam Kelly was again excellent in goal and ahead of him Cillian Hickey, Mark Cooper, Evan Looney, Adam O Connell, Gary O Connor and Harry Byrne were resolute in defence.

The industrious Harry Potts partnered Michael Lenihan in midfield and ensured another day out in the competition.

Congrats to Michael on winning his second All Ireland medal on Saturday with the Kerry U20 hurlers in Navan v Down. In addition to his Minor All Ireland Football medal from 2018 Michael has a Kennedy Cup winning medal with Kerry, a surely unique treble of underage medals. Final Score Dr Crokes 2-21 Gneeveguilla 0-13

Under 13 Girls

Our U13 girls had a home venue for their County Semi-Final fixture v Firies, played on Wednesday 31st. The team, was captained by Natalia Maj, who celebrated her 12th birthday on the day, played against a steady breeze in the first half. Firies were first on the score sheet and looked as if they might put up a sizable lead, by full credit to the girls, they found their rhythm and had two goals in quick succession that had them back in the game. Both teams exchanged points and at the half time break the team were three points in arrears. Despite a wonderful second-half display in which they added 4 goals and a point to their first half tally, Firies managed to maintain that half time lead to the finish. Great credit to both teams for a highly entertaining game and best of luck to Firies in the final.

Team: Natalia Maj, Gráinne Byrne, Saoirse O'Sullivan (who gave a display in defending and blocking down), Miren O'Connor, Sinead Byrne, Ella Barrett, Keela O' Connor, Ellie Galvin, Annie Brosnan, Leah McMahon(who gave an exhibition of football on the night), Ali O'Donoghue, Keira Geaney, Clodagh McGorrigan, Aoileann Ní Dhubhán, Norah McGlynn, Sarah Cooper (at her goalscoring best).

Congratulations to the Kerry Senior Team and Management who beat Tyrone at the weekend and all the Best for the All Ireland Final against Dublin especially the Dr Crokes contingent Captain Gavin White, Micheal Burns and David Shaw.

Hard luck to the Kerry Minors Team and Management who were unlucky to Galway last weekend in the All Ireland Semi Final.
