LGFA Our Senior & Underage competitions due to a close last week.  Our Senior ladies put in a huge effort in their Intermediate Semi-final v Corca Dhuibhne, with the game just getting away from us in the last ten minutes.  We had a good campaign, and our girls are looking forward to a break for a few months, before coming back stronger next year.

Our U15 girls finished on a high last Monday evening, by winning the county championship C final against Legion. The girls played some superb football from the start and an excellent performance by our defence kept Legion goal-less throughout the game.  Each girl gave 100% effort and worked tirelessly for each other. There was some fantastic football on display and excellent scores.

At the end of the game our captain Ali O’Donoghue accepted the shield, to the delight of her teammates, coaches and supporters. Thanks to Legion for a sporting game.

FINAL SCORE Dr Crokes 7-7, Legion 0-12

Our u17 girls added a second county championship victory to our ladies tally for 2021 when they overcame a tough Scartaglen side in the B Championship, in one of the most exciting games of our season.

Scart started the stronger with a couple of early goals but by the first water break Dr Crokes backs had re-organised & our forwards delivered when they got possession. The second quarter belonged to the opposition again when they kicked on to put themselves 7 points to the advantage at half time.

However, Dr Crokes owned the second half, with Leah McMahon deadly in front of goal we were back to within a point with 3 mins remaining. Clodagh McGorrian pulled off a huge save to keep our hopes alive & with Laura O’Shea & Lara Hoare combining to get the ball forward, Cara O’Sullivan stepped up with a sweet point to put us in front by the minimum. Possession was vital at this point and when Saoirse O’Sullivan won the ball out on the sideline on the next kick out, this gave us the momentum & we held possession until the final whistle.  Our captain Rocha Clifford accepted the shield to huge cheers from our fabulous supporters, and wished a speedy recovery to team member Pia Hickey who is currently recovering from surgery.  Each member of our panel deserve huge credit for this victory.

FINAL SCORE Dr Crokes 5-11 Scartaglen 5-10.

A special word of thanks to all of our ladies coaches for the time & effort that they put in over the past few months.  The improvement in skill level, the team-work and team-bonding is a joy to see.  A well deserved break is now the order of the day and we look forward to what 2022 has in store for Dr Crokes Girls.
