Seven players matched 3 numbers and won €60 each. Next week's jackpot is €7,200. Draw will take place in the Jack C's on Sunday 24th May 2015. Match 3 Winners: Alan & Anna O'Connor (Milltown), J. SENIOR CLUB C'SHIP: SEMI-FINAL: Dr Crokes 1-17, Rathmore 2-10. Aided by the strong breeze, we got off to a great start and sent over seven points without reply in the first ten minutes. We continued to dominate the period and had a whopping 1-13 to 0-4 lead at the interval. We didn’t seem to be in any trouble for the first twenty minutes of the second half as Rathmore only made inroads into our big lead by just one point, 1-17 to 1-06. Our opponents came alive in the last ten minutes, scoring 1-04 without reply and got within four points of us at the end of the game. Our management and players will not be happy with our efforts at the end of the game. However, they could point to the fact that at this stage, we had lost five of the starting fifteen players through injuries. Rathmore also picked up a number of  injuries even though the game was played in a very sporting manner. Best Player: Johnny Buckley. Team and scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Luke Quinn, Fionn Fitzgerald, Eoin Brosnan (Capt), Alan O Sullivan 0-2, Johnny Buckley (1-3), Mike Milner , Kieran O’ Leary (0-3),  Daithi Casey 0-3 (0-1 frees), Brian Looney (0-1 (45)), Colm Cooper 0-1,Chris Brady 0-3 (0-1 free), Jamie Doolan 0-1. Subs Used: Ambrose O Donovan, David O Leary, Aaron Murphy, Cillian Fitzgerald, Gavin O Shea.

UNDER 12: On Sunday, we played our back game away to Na Gael. Our U12 black team played table toppers who with a strong wind dominated in the first half and clocked up a few scores without reply. In the second half straight from the throw in, we were like a different team and pushed on kicking some beautiful scores. After a brilliant second half we finished up losing 5-07 to 3-07. Hopefully we can build from our second half performance next week. The amber team continued their winning streak with an outstanding display winning 5-23 to 3-05 where everyone had a big part to play. A return of 28 scores is fantastic and this team is going from strength to strength every week. A special thank you to MC construction who sponsored new jerseys for both teams. Training  continues every Thursday 6.30 to 7.30

LADIES FOOTBALL: Our U12 girls are looking forward to getting back into action again next week.

Our U14 girls’ recent run of good results came to an end when we were defeated by Scartaglen despite the best efforts of Miriam Green, Pia Hickey, Holly Power and Fiona Galvin.

Our U16 girls are on a break from competitive duty until after the exams.

Our Senior ladies are currently preparing for their ¼ final against Kilcummin in a few weeks time.

OUR GAA JOURNAL: The newly-launched club GAA Journal is available on Saturday mornings at the academy training or from the club shop. It is a great way of recording those magnificent memories of the children’s years as an underage member of Dr Crokes.

LOTTO: Draw took place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 7, 9, 13, 15. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬6,600. Ten players matched 3 numbers and won €40 each. Next week's jackpot is €6,900. Draw will take place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday 17th May 2015. Match 3 Winners: Bryan O'Shea, Mike O'Grady (Muckross Road), Scott McGlashan (c/o Temmler), Mike Murphy (c/o Larry), Jim Corridan (c/o Tatler), Jackie Looney, Paudie O'Sullivan D'Arcy, Evan Dickson (c/o Sheila), Peggy O'Brien (52 Ardshanavooly), Claire Looney (Gortagullane, Muckross).

SENIOR Co. LEAGUE - DIV. 1 (2014 FINAL): Dr Crokes 0-13, Austin Stacks 2-09. Out of this game, played in Connolly Park, we secured a point in the county league but lost in extra time the 2014 league final. The winning and losing of this game was our opponents’ ability to score two goals, one in the first minute of the game and the other in the last minute of the first half of extra time. We also had our chances of majors on a few occasions but failed to find the net. Even though the Stacks started the game with a goal, we had gained equality by the 17th minute. The Tralee boys finished the half stronger and registered two points to go in 1-3 to 0-4 ahead at the interval. With the breeze at our backs, we had a great start to the second half. We sent over four points without reply to go two points in front by the 36th minute. In the next five minutes we had a great chance of a goal and a few points but failed to alter the scoreboard. The Stacks then had a point, followed by two points by us, giving us a three point lead going into the last quarter. Even though we had the aid of a breeze, we failed to score in the last fifteen minutes. Our opponents, to their credit, sent over three points and equalise before the final whistle. Stacks had the advantage of the breeze in the first half of extra time but we led by two points to one going into the last minute of this half. The Tralee boys however struck for a goal which proved decisive just before the referee blew his half-time whistle. The second period of extra time was nip and tuck with both sides scoring just a point to give Austin Stacks victory. We congratulate them on their victory in a game that was very intense over the eighty minutes. In analysing our own play, one would have to reflect on the fact that we failed to score in the last 15 minutes of the first and second halves. We lost the services of Johnny Buckley and Eoin Brosnan for extra time while Stacks had to do without the injured Daniel Bohane. Dr Crokes Best Player: Jordan Kiely. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Luke Quinn, David O Leary, Aaron Murphy, Eoin Brosnan (Capt), Johnny Buckley, Mike Milner , Gavin O Shea,  Daithi Casey 0-02 ( frees), Brian Looney (0-01 (45)), Kieran O’ Leary (0-02), Colm Cooper 0-07 (frees), Jordan Kiely 0-01. Subs Used: Andrew Keneally, Tony Brosnan, Alan O Sullivan, Jason Lyne, Cillian Fitzgerald.

SENIOR Co. LEAGUE - DIV. 4: Dr Crokes 0-08 Lispole 1-08. Played in constant rain in weather more associated to winter both teams served up a very entertaining game. Dr. Crokes started brightly kicking the first two scores of the game. Lispole began to take control particularly around the middle third. Points were traded until the most important score of the game, a fisted goal for Lispole. Lispole led at the short whistle by one point 1-03 to 0-05. The second half was very keenly contested with big hits from both teams. The Crokes pressed hard all the way through the second half. Looking for that elusive goal, unfortunately it never arrived. Lispole held on for a deserved win on the score line of 1-08 to 0-08. Team: David Neeson, Cillian Fitzgerald,  Keith McMahon, Sean Coppinger, Jason Lyne, Mark Egan, Eanna Kavanagh, James Jones, Shane Doolan, Bryan O'Shea, Andrew Keneally, Gavin Tucker, Tony Brosnan, Chris Brady, Cian O'Neill. Subs: Shane O'Neill, Brendan Falvey, Jason O'Leary.

HURLING: On the hurling front, we are in the middle of a free period, designed to facilitate our young players as they study for Third Level and Leaving Certificate examinations. However, training continues. For the next few weeks, we do circuits on Mondays at 7.00pm, on Wednesdays we do field training at 7.30 and on Sunday nights at 7.00pm. Our Junior footballers play on Friday nights and the hurling management encourages any of our players who can do so to get involved with the footballers. It will be a great way to improve fitness levels as well as helping us to integrate more meaningfully in our club.

UNDERAGE HURLING: Any young boys who would like to take up and learn the skills of hurling can join the underage panels by contacting John at 087-6534444.

JUVENILE ACADEMY: Our U8's boys commenced their go games in Kilcummin last Tuesday night and played 3 matches v Kilcummin and Spa and great fun was had by all!! A special invitation to all young girls aged 5 to 10 to join the Crokes in May and June and see the benefits of regular excercise and healthy living while making friends and playing Gaelic Football games in a fun filled atmosphere!!!

OUR GAA JOURNAL: The newly-launched club GAA Journal is available on Saturday mornings at the academy training or from the club shop. It is a great way of recording those magnificent memories of the children’s years as an underage member of Dr Crokes.

UNDER 12: The U12 black team played a very strong Austin stacks recently and played decent football in the first half but were six points down at half time. In the second half stacks with a very strong wind assisting them pushed on and knocked up the scores to win easy in the end. While overall it was a poor performance, a few players tried hard to the final whistle which was great to see. The amber team had another great win beating Stacks 5-12 to 5-06.It was a brilliant team effort from the goalie to the full forward line with all the players showing their skills learned at training. Training continues every Thursday at 6.30 and new players are very welcome.

UNDER 14: Our Under 14s have a week off this week and will return to action the following week as they begin preparations for the second half of their season.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Our U14 girls game vs Scartaglin was called off due to the recent bad weather. We would like to wish our midfielder Julie Delaney a speedy recovery from a broken wrist he suffered recently in a non-football related accident. Hope to see you back in the Black and Amber again soon Julie.

DICK FITZGERALD – 100 YEARS ON: Friday night last was a fantastic occasion for all who attended our night to commemorate the centenary of the publication of Dick Fitzgerald’s book. John C O Shea provided us with some fabulous archive video footage of Dick Fitzgerald. Fr Tom gave us a great insight into Dick’s book on How to Play Gaelic Football and Micheal O Muircheartaigh entertained us with his own style of interviewing Dr Crokes’ Kerry players from 2014 not to mention the nuggets he added in every so often. Many thanks to all who helped to make the night a success and a special mention goes to Eamonn Fitzgerald who was the driving force behind the idea. Hopefully we will be able to do something similar in the near future.

TIDY TOWNS – DR CROKES CONTRIBUTION: On Thursday last a group of volunteers showed up to tidy up the club grounds and its surrounds. Thanks to Noel for providing the gloves, bags and litter pickers. An hour and a half later, we had removed a significant amount of rubbish from the area. Well done to all concerned for your time and effort.

CONGRATULATIONS: Best wishes to Senior team player Brian Looney and his fiance Gina on their recent engagement.

SYMPATHIES: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Diarmaid Treacy, Kathleen Prendergast (cousin of Fr Tom) and Nora Walsh (mother of Sean Walsh, former Chairman Kerry GAA) who passed away last week.

Draw will take place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday 10th May 2015. SENIOR Co. LEAGUE - DIV. 1 (2014 FINAL): Not just another Co. League fixture - On Saturday night next, our senior team play Austin Stacks in Connolly Park, Tralee in Round 4 of the County League This fixture is made all the more interesting as it doubles up as the final of last year’s County League Final. All support greatly appreciated.

EK JUNIOR LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL: Dr Crokes 0-12, Gneeveguilla 0-07. Played on a very wet and cold night at Lewis road, both teams defied the elements to play an open, end to end game of football. Dr Crokes were first out of the blocks and went into a three point lead with points from Brian O Shea (2) and Gavin Tucker.  Jason O Leary and Brian O Shea put on two more points from play before the end of the first quarter, Gneeveguilla refused to go away though and due to some fine point scoring (2) and free-taking(2) by Cornelius Buckley  they were still well in this game at the 20 minute mark 0-5 to 0-4. Dr Crokes finished the half stronger and points from Brian O Shea, Darren O Doherty and P J Lawlor saw them go in at the break with a four point lead. Dr Crokes opened the second-half scoring through Keith O Leary. The next ten minutes saw both sides miss chances from play and frees but weather conditions were particularly bad at the time. Dr Crokes subs Shane Lyne and Brendan Falvey were introduced at 40 minutes and had an immediate impact with Brendan Falvey scoring a fine point from play within 3 minutes. This point came as immediate response to yet another pointed free from Cornelius Buckley. (0-10 to 0-5) Gneeveguilla made a change then bringing on Eamonn Herlihy. For the next ten minutes Gneeveguilla held the upper hand at midfield which led to a point from Aenas O Leary. Unfortunately for them, during this period, Gneeveguilla had a number of chances from frees and play which weren’t converted. Dr Crokes defenders make like to take some of the credit for these misses due to their high work rate and pressure. Dr Crokes introduced Jason Sullivan and Darragh Stack for the last 7 minutes and once again they too had an impact. Darragh Stack scored a fine point a minute later and Cornelius Buckley finished the scoring on the night with yet another point from a free. Team and Scorers: Dr Crokes: Johnny O Leary, Jonathan Clarke,  Keith McMahon, Sean Coppinger, Jason Lyne, Mark Egan, Gavin Tucker 0-01, James Jones, P J Lawlor 0-01, Darren Doherty 0-01, Brian O Shea 0-05(0-02 frees), Cian O Neill, Jason O Leary 0-01, Philip O Connor, Keith O'Leary 0-01. Subs: Shane Lyne, Brendan Falvey 0-01, Jason O Sullivan, Darragh Stack 0-01.

Note: The East Kerry Junior League Final is scheduled for Tuesday night in Spa at 7:00pm

OUR GAA JOURNAL: The newly-launched club GAA Journal is available on Saturday mornings at the academy training or from the club shop. It is a great way of recording those magnificent memories of the children’s years as an underage member of Dr Crokes.

UNDER 14: Our Under 14s had a very busy week last week playing their final match of the Div 1 league against Annascaul / Lispole on Wednesday night in Annascaul. After a titanic struggle, the game ended in a draw which led to a replay two nights later in Keel. The weather that night in Keel was cold wet and windy but these two teams still served up a magnificent display of football. Crokes had more of the play in the first half but struggled with a very good Annascaul/Lispoledefence. At the other end, our opponents were very efficient with their limited number of attacks. Crokes were behind 0-5 to 1-1 at half time. The second half performance if anything was even better as the conditions worsened. Both teams played a brand of football to the very end that kept all supporters fully engaged. These two teams were a credit to their clubs and though Annascaul / Lispole lost on the night 3-7 to 2-5 there will be better days ahead for them too. Our team now move on to play Laune Rangers on Wednesday this week in the Div 1 semi-final.

UNDER 16: Our team have reached the East Kerry Final and will play Firies. This final is fixed for Monday 4th May at 5.00  in Glenflesk. Next week’s notes will carry a full match report.

HURLING: Our hurling officer will be on a high this week after the Deise’s big win last Sunday in Thurles. All Cork hurling fans within the club should know to stay away from Paul at least for the week.

We got our season up and running last week with an away outing to Abbeydorney. We came away with the points from this game and hopefully this will help us to drive on with the rest of the season. The next game will be at home against Crottta on Wednesday 13th May. All support greatly appreciated.

UNDERAGE HURLING: Any young boys who would like to take up and learn the skills of hurling can join the underage panels by contacting John at 087-6534444.

LADIES U12 FOOTBALL: Our under 12 girls took to the field on Tuesday last in horrible weather conditions to play Kenmare. The girls put in a great performance, especially in the second half but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. This team have come on in leaps and bounds in the last few weeks and better results are to be expected from them in the future.
