26/10/2015

LOTTO: Draw took place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 4, 14, 15, 24. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬3,300. Match 3 - 4 each received €100. Next week's jackpot is €3,600. Draw will take place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday 1st November 2015.

MINOR CO. C'SHIP SEMI-FINAL: Dr Crokes 2-11, Mid Kerry 2-14. A very good first half display against the strong wind was largely responsible for Mid Kerry's three point victory over us last Saturday. This is not to say that we did not give our all but we fell short by just one score at the final whistle. The teams exchanged points on two occasions in the first ten minutes, in this game played in the John Mitchels pitch, which was in excellent condition. We were a point down at the end of the first quarter, 0-4 to 0-3 even though we had the strong wind at our back. We had the next three points to go two points in front but our opponents rallied to draw level as we went into injury time. We finished the half (about three minutes of added time was played because of injuries) in great style with a goal and a point, to go in at half time, 1-07 to 0-06 in front. The question now was if this lead would be enough as we faced the strong breeze in the second half. By the 42nd minute Mid Kerry had got back to equality scoring five points to our one in the twelve minute period. Early in the third quarter our opponents had a goal and point and went into the last five minutes, four points in front. Our lads did not give up but rallied and drew level with a goal and a point. We were now leading into injury time and extra time looked likely. Our opponents however went through for a match winning goal. The teams exchanged points before the end to leave Mid Kerry the victors, 2-14 to 2-11. Our players gave it their all and even though they fell short by three points our thanks to them for their great effort in this game and indeed throughout the whole year. They will now have to get ready for the East Kerry Championship and try and add it to the East Kerry League, which we have already won. Our thanks also to our mentors, Edmund O' Sullivan, Mike Cooper, Vince Casey, Jim Connolly, Cormac Foley and Caoimhin O' Donoghue who gave so much of their time throughout the year to have this team competing so strongly at this top level. Team and Scorers: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, Jack Lenihan, David Naughton, James Mc Auliffe, Gavin White (Capt) 0-01, Creagh Courtney, Paul Clarke, Billy Courtney, Mark O' Shea, David Shaw 0-01, Brendan Coppinger 1-02, Michael Potts 1-00, Mike Casey, Adam O' Shea 0-07 (0-05 frees). Sub: Cian O' Hare.

INTERMEDIATE CO. HURLING C'SHIP FINAL: On Sunday October 18th in Abbeydorney, our Senior Hurlers met with Kilmoyley in the County Intermediate Hurling Final. This was our second appearance in a row in the Intermediate Final having been well beaten by Kenmare in the final of 2014. Sadly, on this occasion as well, defeat was to be our reward but this year we were unlucky to lose and were a stronger and vastly improved team. The final scoreline at the end of a very close and competitive game was Kilmoyley 2-14, Dr. Crokes 1-13. We paid dearly for several missed chances, including a penalty and a series of goal opportunities presented during to us during the course of the game as well as conceding soft scores. Defeat was difficult to swallow but we must congratulate the Kilmoyley club on winning the Senior Championship and now the Intermediate Championship. Our team on Sunday was: Jamie Lenihan, Shane Kavanagh, Kevin Landers (capt) Dan Guerin, Rory Waters, Brendan McMahon, Mike Murphy, Sean Burchill, Mike Milner, Jack Lenihan, Andrew Kennelly, Keith Curtin, Aaron Murphy, Michael McCarthy, Sean Morris. Subs: Michael O’Keeffe, Chris Doncel, Barry O’Grady, Shane Lyne. As a footnote, we should compliment the Abbeydorney club on the excellent presentation of their hurling surface and the brilliant layout on their club facilities.

MUNSTER JUNIOR CLUB HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Our season is not over yet because following our excellent performances in the Intermediate Championship we have been nominated to represent Kerry in the Munster Junior Club Championship. We play in the first round of this on Sunday November 1st away to the Limerick County Champions, Dromcollogher/Broadford at 2.00pm. This is new and exciting territory that we find ourselves in and it is the first time in the long history of Dr. Crokes that a hurling team from the club has reached these dizzy heights. We will travel with confidence and will represent Crokes and Kerry proudly. At the time of writing arrangements are being made to have our U14 hurlers travel as well to play their counterparts from Dromcollogher/Broadford in a pre-match friendly/curtain-raiser game. All support will be welcome and needed. Please come along and make yourselves heard.....!

U12 GIRLS FOOTBALL: The Dr Crokes girls took to the field against Beaufort in the East Kerry Division 2 Under 12 Final last week. It was a repeat of the County League final which saw Beaufort come out on top on that occasion. With both teams being so evenly matched this was going to be a cracker of a game. Although the Crokes girls opened the scoring with a goal from Kate O Donoghue it was quickly followed by a point from Holly Power, the Beaufort girls weren't long settling down and were leading by a few points at halftime. But in the second half the girls quickly caught up with points from Leah McMahon, Sarah McMahon (capt) and Jessica Leahy. And  with some superb defending from Megan Graham, Megan Lenihan and Sara Neher the girls kept Dr Crokes in the game. Saorise Dorrin was outstanding and always seemed to appear to tussle out  with the ball in hand. It was level at the full-time whistle and extra-time had to be played. This is where the girls really stepped up their game with superb football from Holly Power and Jade Potts in the centre of the field hooking up with Kate O'Donoghue for another goal. From there the girls really got into their stride with Rocha Clifford and Laura O'Shea playing well in the forwards linking well with  Emma Kelly who scored a lovely point from play. Pia Hickey had a great game in the middle of the field and Faith Lockett also played well when in the forwards. There was a heart stopping moment when a Beaufort girl was one on with our keeper Ellen Moloney but she  remained calm and  brought off a brilliant save to keep us in the lead. There was sheer delight  in the Crokes camp when the final whistle was blown with the girls winning on a score line of  2 goals and 5 points to 1 goal and 4 points. The team is as follows: Ellen Moloney,Megan Graham,Jade Potts,Megan Lenihan, Sara Neher, Emma Kelly, Saorise Dorrin, Holly Power, Pia Hickey, Jessica Leahy, Rocha Clifford, Sarah McMahon(capt), Leah McMahon, Kate O'Donoghue, Laura O'Shea. Subs: Faith Lockett (for L O'Shea), Debbie May, Amy Leahy, Aideen Mullins, Ella Galvin, Lisa Lenihan, Katie McCarthy.

19/10/2015

LOTTO: Draw took place in J.C. O'Shea's on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 10, 12, 13, 21. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬3,000. Match 3 - 12 each received €35. Next week's jackpot is €3,300. Draw will take place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday 25th October 2015.

EAST KERRY FINAL - BILL TANGNEY CUP: Dr Crokes 2-12 Cordal 0-04. Played in Farranfore on Saturday in ideal conditions, this was a game where Dr Crokes could do little wrong and Cordal found it hard to get anything going. A young Dr Crokes team containing many  U21 players was dominant from the start with Tony Brosnan (Captain) scoring 1-04 without reply in the first quarter. P J Lawlor put in a big display in the centre and joined in with 1-1 of his own. As the game wore on the  Crokes lads continued to rack up the scores and went in at the half with a comfortable lead. Cordal to their credit battled on and made the second half a far more competitive affair. However, in the end, they had left themselves too big a gap to bridge and the Crokes ran out comfortable winners in the end. Best for Crokes were Tony Brosnan, Mac Dara De Bhillis and Philip O Connor up front, David O leary and PJ Lawlor in the centre while Keith McMahon, Sean Coppinger, Mark Egan and Jason O Leary were rock solid at the back.

U14 FOOTBALL: Both Dr Crokes under 14 teams had a successful end to their seasons in recent weeks with both victorious in their respective East Kerry league finals. The division one team had two epic battles with a very good Rathmore team in Fitzgerald Stadium. In a fantastic game of football, Crokes looked to have won the title with a late goal from Padraig Looney. However, a goal in injury time from a David Dineen free gave Rathmore a deserved draw. The teams finished level after extra time on a scoreline of Dr Crokes 5.10 Rathmore 6.7. Goals were always going to play a role in the winning of  the replay and two first half goals from Sean Mc Gann and Krystian Komorsa saw Crokes lead at half  time by three points. The Crokes defence withheld strong pressure especially in the last 10 minutes  as Rathmore sought a goal to level the game. Some outstanding defending from Caolan Ryan, Eamon Long, Neil O Shea, Gary O Connor, Ger Cronin, Mark Cooper, Jamie Muldoon and Evan Looney kept Rathmore at bay while a point blank save from Adam Carey near the death was one of the highlights of both games. Up front, Michael Linehan, Liam Kelliher and Lorcan Martin, contributed vital scores in both games while Oran O Donoghue, Tom Doyle and Harry Potts worked tirelessly throughout. Captain Sean Mc Gann accepted the Ned Myers cup from Sean O Keefe, East Kerry Coiste na Nog, after the game. The season concluded with the Division 5 final against Scartaglen/Cordal. Following another excellent game of football, Dr Crokes emerged winners on a scoreline of Dr Crokes 2-10 Scartaglen 1-09. Dr Crokes started very well and went five points up inside the opening minutes. With Calum Neher, Tom Doyle, Adam O Connell and Keith Myers dominating, Dr Crokes held onto this lead until the final minutes of the first half when three points from our opponents saw us hold a 1-05 to 0-05 lead at half time. We again started well in the second half and points by David Moriarty, Lawrence O Donoghue and Conor Dillon, allied to some strong defensive work by Ronan Buckley, Jason Kerins, Brian Harrington and Cillian Hickey meant we once again extended our lead. However, Scartaglen/Cordal were not giving up and scored 1.2 without reply to level the game and make for a tense final 10 minutes. Three outstanding saves from Caleb Russell along with a great block by Jack Cooper helped us to stay in the game. The vital score came with five minutes remaining when Rob O Shea finished to net. A point by Jack Linehan and some good work by Aaron Brennan, Gavin Regan and Cian Mc Mahon helped Dr Crokes to hold on. Captain Adam O Connell accepted the trophy, to add to the Colm Cooper Tournament Shield which many of the players had won the previous weekend, and the county Division 1 Feile and Regional Feile success in Kildare earlier in the year. Great credit is due to an extremely dedicated and committed bunch of players who did the club and their families proud with their attitude and behaviour throughout the whole year.

LOTTO: Draw took place in J.C. O'Shea's on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 3, 10, 11, 19. There was one winner of the jackpot of â‚¬3,000. Congratulations to Barry O'Connor (c/o Mike O'Shea). Next week's jackpot is €3,000. Draw will take place in the Speakeasy on Sunday 18th October 2015.

HARD LUCK: to our Senior Football team who lost out to Rathmore in the Senior Co. Championship on Sunday last. Their next outing will be the O'Donoghue Cup against Spa (date to be confirmed) and we hope they can pick it up again for that game.

BUSY TIMES AHEAD FOR DR. CROKES SUPPORTERS: After the loss suffered by our senior team on Sunday last, our attention turns to our Minor footballers who are preparing for East Kerry and County Championship Semi Finals, to our U-21 Footballers who are preparing for the semi-final of the County Club Championship, to our Junior Footballers who are preparing for the final of the Molyneaux Cup and our hurlers who are getting ready for the final of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship.

SENIOR CO. C'SHIP QUARTER FINAL: Rathmore 2-15 Dr Crokes 1-13. In this game, played at Fitzgerald stadium on Sunday, Rathmore always seemed to find scoring that more easy than us and well deserved their five-point victory at the end. It's rue that we concede two goals of the soft variety but fought back from a deficit of seven points five minutes after half time to get within one point of the eventual winners by the end of the third quarter. The initiative now lay with us but it was Rathmore who finished the better and ran out victors by five points. We were the first to score, a point in the first minute. Rathmore hit back with two points and then scored the first of their goals in the 7th minute. we then scored three unanswered points to get within a point of Rathmore at the end of the first quarter. The teams then exchanged points but then three points without reply from Rathmore put them four points ahead on the 22nd minute. The teams then exchanged points on two occasions but a goal by our opponents in the 29th minute put them 7 points ahead. We had two points before half time from Gavin White and Colm Cooper to leave the the Half Time score Rathmore 2-08 Dr Crokes 0-09. Rathmore got a dream start to the second half scoring two points and going 7 points clear. We were now in dire trouble but three unanswered points and a great goal by Daithi Casey left just the minimum between the teams at the end of the third quarter. One would have expected us to press on at this stage but the opposite happened. rathmore finished the last quarter much better than us and outscored us 5 points to 1 in this period for a five point victory. We congratulate Rathmore on their deserved victory and wish them the best in the concluding stages of this competition. Teams and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Mike Moloney, David O Leary, Eoin Brosnan (C), Fionn Fitzgerald, Gavan White, Johnny Buckley, Ambrose O Donovan (0-01), Alan O Sullivan (0-01), Daithi Casey (1-01), Brian Looney (0-01 '45), Colm Cooper (0-05 4F), Chris Brady (0-01), Jordan Kiely Subs: Mike Milner, Jamie Doolan, Cillian Fitzgerald, Gavin O Shea, Tony Brosnan (0-02). Best in Defence was Eoin Brosnan and Gavan White. In attack we were best served by Daithi Casey, Colm Cooper and substitute Tony Brosnan. Dr Crokes best player: Daithi Casey.

INTERMEDIATE CO. C'SHIP HURLING FINAL: Best wishes to our senior hurlers as they prepare for their big day on Sunday next against Kilmoyley. All roads lead to Abbeydorney next weekend (Sunday at 3:00pm) as we hope that as many of you as possible can make your way to support the team.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Both our U12 and U14 Girls squads finished their playing years by securing silverware in East Kerry competition. First our U12s had a great battle with Beaufort before emerging victorious after extra time. Our U14s had a much more dramatic finish to the season, heartbreakingly losing their third final of 2015 to Beaufort in the last couple of minutes, having lead all through . They responded however to finish their season on positive note with a 2 point win over Laune Rangers in the Plate final, again after extra time. Well done to all these young girls for their commitment throughout the year and we will see you all back again in 2016.

BEST WISHES: We extend our club's best wishes for a speedy recovery to Eddie (Tatler) O Sullivan and also to  Gavin O Shea who picked up a knock during the senior match on Sunday

CONGRATULATIONS: to Katie and Andrew Kenneally on the recent birth of their daughter.

05/10/2015

LOTTO: Draw took place in the Tatler Jack on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 8, 11, 17, 21. There was one winner of the jackpot of â‚¬12,900. Congratulations to Michael Casey (c/o Eddie). Next week's jackpot is €3,000. Draw will take place in J.C. O'Shea's on Sunday 11th October 2015.

SENIOR COUNTY C'SHIP - LAST 16: Dr Crokes 1-11 Austin Stacks 1-10. A point each from Alan O' Sullivan and Eoin Brosnan in the last five minutes turned a one point deficit into a one point victory. This game played in Fitzgerald Stadium was always exciting even though the quality of football never reached the heights of the games played in the Championship in the last five years. I suppose at the end of the day our opponents deserved a draw as they missed several scoreable chances in the first half. A goal in the first minute gave us a dream start. Both sides missed some chances in the first quarter, especially the Stacks and at the end of the fifteen minutes both sides had only scored twice, 1-01 for us and 0-02 for our opponents. Jordan Kiely and Daithi Casey were the big players for us in the second quarter scoring two points each. A point also from Colm Cooper in this period and three points by Austin Stacks gaves is a 1-06 to 0-05 point lead at the interval. With the wind to aid us one would have expected us to push on in the second half. Jordan Kiely had the first point of the half but Stacks started to gain control around midfield (Kieran Donaghy had moved there at the start of this period) and after the teams exchanged points, our opponents struck for a goal to leave just two points between the sides after forty minutes. Colm Cooper added a point from a free to put us three points ahead at the end of the third quarter. We were completely outplayed in the next ten minutes and Stacks knocked over four points without reply to go into a point lead with five minutes to go. Our lads showed very good composure in these remaining minutes. Alan O'Sullivan equalised and with two minutes to go Eoin Brosnan sent over the winner. Our best in defence were John Payne, Eoin Brosnan and Gavin White. Ambrose O' Donovan and Johnny Buckley did very well in the first half but we found it much more difficult in this sector when Kieran Donaghy came to midfield. We were best served in attack by Daithi Casey, Jordan Kiely and Colm Cooper. Dr Crokes Best Player - Eoin Brosnan. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Eoin Brosnan 0-01, Mike Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O' Leary, Gavin White, Johnny Buckley, Ambrose O' Donovan, Alan O' Sullivan 0-01, Daithi Casey 0-02, Brian Looney 0-01, Jordan Kiely 0-03, Colm Cooper 1-03 (0-03 Frees) Chris Brady. Subs used: Gavin O' Shea, Jamie Doolan, Mike Milner, Cillian Fitzgerald, Tony Brosnan.
