EAST KERRY MINOR C'SHIP FINAL: Dr Crokes 0-14 Spa 1-08. Even though we played second fiddle to our opponents in the third quarter of the game, in which Spa turned a five point deficit into a one point lead, we still ran out winners by three points in the end. Our victory was achieved because we showed good composure and greater accuracy in our shooting in the last fifteen minutes. We outscored our opponents by six points to two in this period and went into injury time a score in front. Spa won a penalty in these dying minutes but failed to convert it, leaving us winners by three points. We were the better team in the first half and outscored the opposition by seven points to two. We probably deserved our five point lead at the interval as we carved out many more scoring chances than Spa. Our opponents dominated the third quarter and their goal and four points to our one point, put them a point in front. We got to grips with our game at this juncture and five points without reply, put us back in front by four points. Our opponents did not give up and added 0-02 to our 0-01, to leave us just a score in front going into injury time. Spa did force a penalty but unlucky for them this last last kick of the game sailed wide. This was a good team performance. One would have to pick out Brian Fitzgerald, David Naughton and Jack Lenihan in defence. Both sides had their moments at midfield but Billy Courtneys three points from play in this sector was a big bonus for us. Michael Potts was good both in defence and attack. Mike Casey, David Shaw and Adam O'Shea who between them scored ten points (nine from play) were best in attack. Team and scorers: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald (Capt), Jack Lenihan, David Naughton, James Mc Auliffe, Gavin White, Creagh Courtney 0-01, Paul Clarke, Billy Courtney 0-03, Mark O'Shea, Mike Casey 0-04, Michael Potts, Adam O'Shea 0-03 (0-01 free), David Shaw 0-03, Brendan Coppinger

O'DONOGHUE CUP - QUARTER-FINAL: Dr Crokes 0-10 Gneeveguilla. By virtue of our three point win, in this closely contested game against Gneeveguilla, we qualified for the Semi-Final of the O'Donoghue Cup. The poor weather conditions all over the country, also prevailed in Sliabh Luachra and made scores hard to get. Our opponents led at half time by a point, 1-03 to 0-05. The game was close again in the second half but our ability to take our scores better, gave us victory in the end. In this second thirty minutes we outscored Gneeveguilla five points to one and four points to nil in the last quarter. Our opponents started the better and had the first two points of the game. For the rest of the half we outscored the opposition five points to one. A goal however in injury time, in the 31st minute of the half, gave Gneeveguilla an interval lead of 1-03 to 0-05. The teams exchanged points at the start of the second half, but all the four other scores in this half, four points, were credited to us on the scoreboard. This is not to say that Gneeveguilla did not have many attacks. They were on the offensive a lot, but poor shooting and good defensive work by our lads denied them the scores they badly needed. John Payne, Cillian Fitzgerald, Eoin Brosnan and Gavin White were best in defence but the whole sextet in this area worked hard. Mike Milner did very well at midfield, with Alan O'Sullivan, Colm Cooper and Tony Brosnan best in attack. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Cillian Fitzgerald, David O'Leary, Eoin Brosnan (Capt) 0-01, Gavin White, Ambrose O'Donovan, Mike Milner, Alan O'Sullivan 0-01, Colm Cooper 0-04 (frees), Brian Looney 0-02 (0-01 45), Tony Brosnan 0-02, Chris Brady, Gavin O'Shea Subs: P.J. Lawlor, Andrew Kennelly, Bryan O'Shea. Congratualtions to John Payne on being voted Man of the Match.

LOTTO: Draw took place in J.C. O'Shea's on Sunday last. Numbers drawn 1, 2, 3, 13. There was no winner of the jackpot of â‚¬3,000. Match 3, 5 players each received €80. Next weeks draw will take place in the Speakeasy on Sunday 15th November 2015.

O'DONOGHUE CUP - ROUND 1: Dr Crokes 2-19, Spa 2-11. The game played at Lewis Road, was always free following and our eight point victory in a high scoring game was as a result of we having more fire power in attack. Our opponents however were always dangerous when on the offensive. It took a number of great saves from our goalkeeper Alan Kelly in the last ten minutes to keep us well in front at the end. Both sides emptied their benches in the last quarter and Spa seemed to benefit more from the changes made. Spa opened the scoring with a point in the first minute, but in the next five minutes we added on 1-3, without reply. Our opponents sent over three unanswered points, to leaves us just two points ahead at the end of the tenth minute. A goal by Colm Cooper, followed by three points, put us eight points ahead after twenty minutes. Spa reduced our lead, with a point a few minutes later but then we had four points on the trot, for a lead of eleven points, going into the last five minutes. A great goal by our opponents in the 27th minute was followed by the teams, exchanging points, to leave us 2-11 to 1-6 in front at the interval. Spa had the first point of the second half but the game was won by us by the end of the third quarter as we sent over six points without reply for a lead of 2-17 to 1-7. Spa were in command in the last quarter and outscored us 1-4 to 0-1. Our goalkeeper Alan Kelly denied them a goal or two also in this period. Even though our Management would be pleased that we qualified for the next round of the Competition, they know as well that we must improve a lot to annex the trophy. We were best served by goalkeeper Alan Kelly, John Payne, Fionn Fitzgerald, Ambrose O' Donovan, Alan O' Sullivan, Brian Looney and Tony Brosnan. Team and Scorers: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Eoin Brosnan, Cillian Fitzgerald, David O' Leary, Fionn Fitzgerald 0-01, Gavin White 0-01, Mike Milner, Ambrose O' Donovan 0-01, Alan O' Sullivan 0-01, Daithi Casey 0-01 (free), Brian Looney 0-06 (0-01 45), Tony Brosnan 1-04, Colm Cooper 1-01 (0-01 free), Jordan Kiely 0-02. Subs: Gavin O' Shea, Chris Brady 0-01, PJ Lawlor, Cillian Regan, Bryan O' Shea.

MOLYNEAUX CUP FINAL ('B' CO. C'SHIP): Dr Crokes 2-13, Rathmore 0-07. The Moylneaux Cup Final was played in Lewis Road on Friday last Oct 30th. Both teams served a very entertaining game in very trying conditions. Dr Crokes playing against the elements in the first half got off to the better start with Keith O Leary and Bryan O Shea supplying the early scores. We finished the half stronger with Tony Brosnan kicking some nice scores to leave the score 1-7 to 0-3 in our favor. The second half was a tense affair with Rathmore forcing there way back into the game. Our defense who were well marshaled by Mark Egan, PJ Lawlor and Captain Keith McMahon dealt manfully with the Rathmore onslaught. Nearing the end Chris Doncel with a goal and Jason O Leary kicked the insurance scores for a deserved win. This was a fourth in a row for the club in this competition.

MUNSTER JUNIOR CLUB HURLING QUARTER-FINAL: Sunday was an historic day for the Dr Crokes club when we travelled to Dromcollogher to play against the local club in what was a first for us, the Munster Junior Hurling Club Championship. A hurling team from our club had never before represented Kerry at this level and we felt honoured to be asked to take this step. The final outcome tells its own story about the gulf that exists between Kerry club hurling and clubs from the traditional hurling counties and strongholds. The final scoreline of Dromcollogher/Broadford 4-15 Dr.Crokes 0-05 probably does not fairly reflect the efforts and hurling of our lads during the course of the game. We were unlucky not to have registered several more scores but, to be truthful ,we were comprehensively beaten all over the pitch by a fine, fit and stronger home team. On the evidence we saw, they are entitled to dream of reaching Croke Park later in the competition. Our players, while bitterly disappointed afterwards, will look on the experience as lessons learned and are already thinking in terms of next season and the Kerry Intermediate Hurling Championship. Our congratulations and good wishes go to Dromcollogher/Broadford GAA community. The occasion was clearly a big one too for this small but proud country parish as demonstrated by the flags and banners all over the village and the very big attendance at the game as well as the big turnout of volunteers to manage the traffic and parking near the ground. Our thanks is due to our team sponsors, the O’Donoghue family of “The Speak” on High Street, who sponsored the team bus and to Dr Crokes chairman and executive for their support and generosity throughout the season. For the record our team lined out as follows: Jamie Lenihan, Shane Kavanagh, Kevin Landers (Capt), Mike Murphy, Rory Waters, Brendan McMahon, Shane Lyne, Sean Burchill, Mike Milner, Jack Lenihan, Mike McCarthy, Keith Curtin, Chris Doncel, Andrew Kennelly, Aaron Murphy. Subs: Tom Murphy, Cian O’Brien, John Ivory, Dan Guerin, Barry O’Grady.

Footnote: Two of our players missed out on this game. Sean Morris was ill and we send him a get well soon message. Michael O’Keeffe was also absent due to the death of his grandfather, Patrick 'Paddy Ando' Moynihan, and we send a message of sincere sympathy to Mike and his family.

EK MINOR C'SHIP SEMI-FINAL: Dr Crokes 1-14, Gneeveguilla 0-10. Even though we won this game in the end by seven points, we were not in a great position at half time as we trailed by two points 0-07 to 0-05. The re-positioning at half time of Gavin White to centreback, Michael Potts to the forward line and the bringing on of Paul Clarke, who was carrying an injury, contributed hugely to this victory. In the first half of this game, played in beautiful weather in Gneeveguilla, we were often on the back foot. We had three points in the first quarter but found it hard to contain our opponents when they were on the offensive. The pattern in the second quarter was much the same. We were restricted to just two points as Gneeveguilla added on three points in this period, to add to their first quarter score of four points, for an interval lead of 0-07 to 0-05. Mainly because of the positional changes, we were a transformed team in the second half. We added 1-07 to our first half total and restricted our opponents to just three points. This is not to say that the second half was one sided in our favour. Gneeveguilla to their credit had many attacks but some heroic defending and a few great saves by our goalkeeper Tony Clifford left us winners at the end, 1-14 to 0-10. Tony Clifford had a very good game in goal. Best in defence were John Kerrisk, David Naughton and Creagh Courtney. We just about edged it midfield and our attach combined well, with great contributions from Mike Casey 0-05, Adam O' Shea 0-04 and Mark O' Shea 0-02. Team and Scorers: Tony Clifford, Brian Fitzgerald, John Kerrisk, James Mc Auliffe, Michael Potts 1-0, David Naughton, Creagh Courtney, David Shaw, Gavin White 0-01, Mark O' Shea 0-02, Mike Casey 0-05, Brendan Coppinger, Michael Owen Buckley, Billy Courntey 0-02 (0-01 free), Adam O' Shea 0-04 (0-03 frees). Subs: Paul Clarke

MEETING: A General Meeting for members will take place next Thursday at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.

PAINTING: Last call for Painters for Saturday next at 9.30am. The last few bits and pieces need to be finished up and Thank you to all who have helped so far. The clubhouse is looking fantastic.

SYMPATHIES: Deepest sympathies to the Kiely Family on the death of Maurice (Mossie) Kiely, father of Aidan, former senior player, and grandfather of current players Jordan and Megan.
