1960 -------- Dr Crokes Fifth in a Row Dr Crokes 2-4 ------------- Legion 1-2 Dr Crokes won the O’Donoghue Cup for the fifth year in a row, beating Legion in the final on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-2. It is on record as having been the best final for many years despite the treacherous underfoot conditions. The game started briskly with Crokes attacking and Eamon O’Donoghue sent in a sizzling drive which Weeshie Fogarty dived at and saved on the goal line. The teams were on level terms at half time and from the restart the Legion attacked strongly and were rewarded with a goal from a penalty. For the next ten minutes the Crokes stormed back on the attack and Paddy “Bomber”O’Shea crashed home the equalizing goal. Two more points from Eamon O’Donoghue and a goal from Michael O’Connor gave Dr Crokes a five point winning margin. The Kerryman reported that”Crokes victory was due to grand team work and stamina. It was in the last twenty minutes that they played their best football. Legion must be also satisfied with their display. Outstanding for Dr Crokes were Liam Murphy(capt), John McCarthy, Gerard O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Donoghue, Paddy O’Shea, Jackie Looney and Gerald Cullinane.
