O'Donoghue Cup Winners 1990

Dr Crokes 4 in a Row ------ 1990 – 1993

In a period in which they had unprecedented success outside their District Board Dr Crokes showed great eagerness to win in their own back yard by annexing four O’Donoghue cup victories 1990 to 1993. They won the Kerry Senior County Championship in 1991, two Munster Club Championships in 1990 and 1991 and the All Ireland Club title in 1992. They often had to struggle to win in East Kerry where the standard was very high. They had to go to replays to win two semi finals and had just a point to spare over Currow in the 1992 final.

              1990 ---     Dr Crokes 1-10 ------- Gneeveguilla 0-7

Newly crowned Kerry Club Champions Dr Crokes had a 6 point winning margin over Gneeveguilla at Fitzgerald Stadium. The Sliabh Luachra boys were always chasing this game against their more experienced opponents. They were always playing second fiddle to Noel O’Leary and Padraig O’Shea at midfield. An unstoppable volley from Martin Byrnes just before half time for a cracking goal gave Crokes an interval lead of 1-7 to 0-3.Gneeveguilla rallied strongly in the first 12 minutes of the second half. Sterling defence by Colm O’Shea, Connie Murphy and John Galvin denied the losers any further scores. Points by Aidan O’Shea and Mike Buckley gave Crokes a six point winning margin. The winners were well served in attack by Ger O’Shea who received the Man of the Match award, Martin Byrnes, Aidan O’Shea and Seanie O’Shea. Gneeveguilla’s best player was John Murphy and he got good assistance from John Cronon, James Brosnan, Ambrose O’Donovan and Mike Finnegan.
