1991 --- Dr Crokes defeat Gneeveguilla in the Final

                       Dr Crokes 1-9 ----------- Gneeveguilla 1-3

Dr Crokes were raging hot favourites to win this as they had recently won the Senior County Championship. The local papers reported that the game never reached the heights expected and that there was only one moment of doubt that Crokes might lose their title. This was in the 54th minute when Ambrose O’Donovan scored a goal for the losers to cut the deficit to three points. It generated fresh hopes for Gneeveguilla but their new found optimism was short lived when Pat O’Shea who was tightly marked throughout by John Cronin pounced on a centre from Connie Murphy and rifled an unstoppable shot from 13 metres beyond the reach of Michael John Moynihan. Colm O’Shea and Ambrose O’Donovan exchanged points before the end, giving Crokes victory by six points.

Dr Crokes just managed 1-2 from play over the hour and it was the free taking accuracy of Ger O’Shea that accounted for the bulk of their scores. Gneeveguilla on the other hand found scores even harder to get and their half time total of one point doesn’t win Championships.

Positive features of the first half were three points by Ger O’Shea, a splendid save from a penalty by Gneeveguilla goalkeeper Michael John Moynihan in the 9th minute from Liam Hartnett and the powerful kickouts against the breeze in the first half by the losers keeper.

Noel O’Leary played a great game at midfield and his splendid one handed catch in the 14th minute was delightful.Peter O’Brien’s kickouts against the breeze were outstanding.

Crokes led 0-5 to 0-1at half time and the second half bore the same pattern until the 54th minute when Ambrose O’Donovan scored his goal.

Best for Dr Crokes were Brendan Keogh, John Clifford, Noel O’Leary, Colm O’Shea, Ger O’Shea, Pat O’Shea and Connie O’Doherty. Gneeveguilla’s best were Ambrose O’Donovan, Michael John Moynihan, John Cronin and Sean Og O’Leary.
