1993 ------ Dr Crokes triumph over Rathmore

                                  Dr Crokes  2-12 ----------- Rathmore 0-13

Dr Crokes captured their 17th O’Donoghue Cup in a game the Killarney Advertiser described as a thriller and one in which the losers made a huge contribution. The paper went on to say that fans would treasure the vintage first half display of Rathmore when they kicked 9 points with youthful Jerry Murphy a beacon of accuracy in a splendid forward division. He scored 4 points and his team didn’t shoot one wide in that period. All the local papers however were of the opinion that the better team won. Even though Rathmore scored 9 points by the interval they still went in at the break two points down, 1-8 to 0-9. The Crokes goal in the 20th minute was a turning point. Pat O’Shea intercepted a defensive pass and struck a great ball to the net from an acute angle. This goal was a killer for Rathmore as they had suffered another bitter blow, having lost the influential Donal Dineen after 9 minutes.

In the 32nd Minute came another Crokes goal, a well taken penalty by Pat O’Shea after a foul in the square on Danny Cooper. Rathmore had two goal chances at the three quarter stage. Peter O’Brien made a great save from Denis Moynihan and minutes later Matt O’Riordan got inside the Crokes defence but shot wide. Points were exchanged right up to the last 5 minutes. In the closing minutes Noel O’Leary fielded spectacularly to deny Rathmore any real chance of mounting attacks.

Dr Crokes were best served by Peter O’Brien, Liam Hartnett, Brendan Keogh and Colm O’Shea in defence, Noel O’Leary and John Galvin at midfield and in attack Roland Neher(voted man of the match), Pat O’Shea and Connie Murphy. The Rathmore stalwarts were Donal Murphy, Eoin Doherty, Donal Dineen(before his injury), Denis Moynihan, Padraig Murphy and Jerry Murphy.
