Paddy Sexton

His origins may have been in Mallow but Paddy was essentially a Killarney man. One of his great loves was Dr Crokes and if anyone deserves the accolade Paddy does. As a footballer he played with the greats and competed with no mean distinction. Paddy won a Junior All-Ireland medal in 1941. After retiring from playing Paddy took time away from club affairs. Irish Dancing was to be where his interest lie.  Again his ability brought him success. Paddy became a dancing teacher founding the Sexton School of Dancing. In the 1970's Paddy re-emerged from the background in Dr Croke club affairs with a strong emphasis on the social and cultural aspect of the club.  He was the driving force behind shows produced for the "Tops of the Clubs". He gathered around him the talents of Maureen Looney, Paddy Looney, Dermot Flynn and Patrick Coleman to mention but a few and moulded the group into a top class variety act.  Paddy's involvement through the years in East Kerry Scor were a enormous success to both himself and Dr Crokes.  Paddy Sexton will always be remembered as the founder of the social aspect of  Dr Crokes and he showed that there is more to Dr Crokes than just playing football.
