CO. MINOR LEAGUE Dr. Crokes 2-09 Austin Stacks 1-13. an inspiring half time speech by the legendary Stephen Brosnan almost had the desired effect when after a lethargic first half performance we upped our performance in the second period finally losing by the narrowest of margins. Our performance in the opening period was poor with many wrong choice options and poor delivery and we trailed at the short whistle 1-07 to 1-02. On the resumption we upped our game considerably with some wonderful scores and drew level with five minutes remaining 2-06 to 1-09. in those pulsating final moments sides were level on twofurther occasions but our opponents got the winning score at the death. Our best performers on the day were Mark Egan and Senan Lavery in defence Chris Brady at midfield and in the forwards Darragh Stack, Bryan O`Shea and Anthony Cronin. We wish a speedy recovery to Robert Watson who suffered a injury during the game.

SENIOR HURLING South Kerry League Kenmare 2-10 Dr Crokes 2-12

Dr Crokes travelled to Kenmare on Sunday 28th Mar and came away with a 2-point victory in a very entertaining and sporting game. It was a first outing for Kerry minor Tadhg Moore and Patrick O Keeffe. The former played exceptionally well and is a fine prospect and he had a great battle with his fellow Kerry Minor player Sean Moriarty of Kenmare.

Like wise Patrick O Keeffe brother of regular Mike is a skilful and athletic hurler.

Crokes conceded a soft goal after only 2 mins but struck back with 3 points from Darren O Dea and 2 from man of the match Keith Curtin points one from play and a free. Crokes enjoyed the majority of possession but found scores hard to come by against a strong Kenmare full back line. Kenmare with a further 2 points led 1-2 to 0-3 after the first quarter. Two excellent points from Strong centre forward Darren O Dea levelled the match but Kenmare tagged on 3 points including 2 frees from the unerring Sean O Regan. Keith Curtin had the last score of the first half from play.

Half time Kenmare led 1-5 to 0-6.

The second half saw Crokes up the tempo with all six backs playing well and Sean Burchill coming more in to it at midfield to assist the excellent Keith Curtin who notched 2 excellent point s form play in the opening 4 mins. of play and Jamie Linehan also converting form close play after winning good possession. Kenmare scored 2 good points from play and began to match Crokes for intensity. A defensive error allowed Kenmare to kick a goal under the advancing Timmie Hourigan and now they led by 4 points. At this juncture Crokes introduced Brendan O Donovan in defence and Diarmuid Lane and Anthony Keogh in attack.

Keith Curtin with a free and Kenmare exchanged points but then in the 17 min of the half Anthony Keogh seized on a breaking ball and struck a well place shot past the Kenmare goalkeeper. Crokes led for the first time. Kenmare narrowed the gap to a point with a excellent score. The the game swung back in Crokes favour when a well taken point by Keith Curtin was followed with the match score, a goal by Darren O Dea after making good space for himself. Kenmare replied with a quick point but substitute the evergreen Johnny Dunphy brilliantly doubled on a ball to score the last point of the game. Crokes having scored 2-6 in that second half ran out winners on the score of 2-12 to 2-10. The team showed great character in that second half, which pleased the management of Gene Doherty, Dave Cotter and Paul Downey.

It was a great team effort but special mention must go to Mike Murphy at fullback ably assisted by Liam Bergin and Paul Griffin and Capt Brendan O Donovan when introduced. The half back line was our strongest line with young Tadhg Moore excelling at wing back. Shane Kavanagh subdued Jimmy Wharton at centre and Barry O Grady showed great determination and strength at Right half. As mentioned Keith Curtin covered every blade and was the best player on view and scored 7 points for god measure. Sean Burchill had a good second half. The half forward line of Mike O Keeffe, Patrick O Keeffe and the excellent Darren O Dea who finished with a tally of 1-3 from play perfumed well as a unit.

Ger Fogarty, Jamie Linehan and Patrick Landers all had their moments. Sub Anthony Keogh playing his first senior game, Diarmuid Lane, Brendan O Donovan and Johnny Dunphy all contributed to the win.

Training continues each week at 8.00pm under the watchful eye of former player Cormac Bonnar. New players welcome.

COISTE NA East Kerry Dr. Crokes 3-12 Legion 0-05.  we ran out stong winners of this opening East Kerry League game played in damp conditions on Sunday evening last.

The quality of the play was very good but the tam may not be happy with their large number of wides. In goals Aodan Browne was never tested the full back line of Lorcan McMonagle Murt O`Shea and Donie O`Sullivan did not yield an inch to their opponents. Our half back line of Shane O`Connor David Naughton and Michael Potts dominated proceedings and launched many an attack. David Shaw and Billy Courtney were well on top at midfield and provided good quality ball for the forwards. All of our forward line played well Brendan Coppinger Mark O`Shea and Dion Marcus worked extremely and contributed some good scores while the full forward line of David Rae, mark Harrington and Mark Hartnett provide a scoring threat all through and were very impressive. Substitutes Jack O’Connor, Patrick Wren, Gavin O`Sullivan and Jack Griffin all contributed to the victory. The work rate of all was encouraging and a good start to the campaign.

East Kerry U16 league Dr. Crokes 3-12 Legion 1-06 in the second game of the double header on Sunday evening last we had a comfortable victory over our arch rivals and remain un-beaten in this competition. Another wonderful display by a side who are continuing to develop and playing a lovely brand of football. When Lawrence Byrnes took advantage of a poor kick out by our opponents early in the game to score our second goal it was over as a contest. Goalkeeper Keith Flynn was again impressive while the full back line of Michael Sheehan Gary Murphy and Eric O’Connor were always in command, the half back line of Ryan O’Connor, Cian O`Lionard and Aodan Burns were the launch pad of many of our attacks midfielders Darragh Stack and Shane Lyne nullified any threat and our half forward line of Gearoid Coughlan Gavin O`Shea and Johnny Courtney were always on top against their direct opponents and interlinked magnificently with the full forward line of Lawrence Byrnes Will Horan and Niall O`Riordan who were a constant threat. Substitutes Diarmuid Galvin, Mike Sexton, Tony Brosnan ,Paul Clifford and John O`Shea all contributed handsomely to the victory. His teammates, management and the Dr. Crokes club wish full forward Will Horan best wishes for a speedy recovery as embarks for his long awaited surgery.

MINOR CO. LEAGUE Dr. Crokes 1-16 Kerins O`Rahillys 1-10. An inspirational display from midfield by Chris Brady was instrumental in securing our first co. league points. Brady who finished with a personal tally of eight points was awesome and it beggars belief how this player is unable to get on the St. Brendan’s side. Other players contributed handsomely to this victory most notably Goalkeeper Ryan Patten, defenders Senan Lavery, Mark Egan, Cillian Fitzgerald, Chris Lawlor, and substitute Darragh Stack while in the forward Robert Watson, Cian O’Neill, Bryan O`Shea and Anthony Cronin always had the beating of their immediate opponent. A major improvement from their first outing which augurs well for the future.

E.K.S.L. Dr. Crokes 1-16 Fossa 0-07, we had our third victory in this competition on Sunday last with a handsome victory over Fossa. Management fielded another experimental side and all acquitted themselves well. There is no doubt that team selection will be difficult during the season with so many players making a huge commitment and competition for places will be intense. A healthy problem.

COISTE na OG Our U15 hurlers opened the 2010 juvenile hurling season  with their first game in the championship against  Lixnaw at Lewis Road. This game was played  in a good spirit and had some good hurling and scores from both sides despite the bitterly cold wind. Playing against the wind in the first half, our defence was under  severe pressure but they did very well for a long period. After  twenty minutes  we were down by  two goals and the match was wide open. However the concession of a few goals before the break meant that the  second half  was going to be difficult. We started briskly in the second half with a goal from Jason Brosnan and a  brace of points from Jack Lenihan and Aaron Murphy . This good start and the wind at our backs  made a good contest of the second half , however the physical strength  of Lixnaw  told in the end they ran out deserving winners.

Team :- T Foley, M Casey, C McSharry, D Fleming, L Howe, S  Hanafin, A Murphy, J Billot, J Lenihan, M O’Shea, C Doncel, K Courtney, I Hurley, D Farrell, G White, J Murphy, L Byrnes, J Brosnan.
