Co. League Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 0-11  Ardfert 0-08

Fielding a largely experimental side and having the luxury of 11 second half wide’s Dr. Crokes had their first win in this years league campaign.

Dr. Crokes opened the scoring in the second minute with a James Fleming point, Ardfert quickly replied with points from John Egan & Stephen Wallace, a long range effort  from minor Johnny Buckley brought parity in the 10th minute, Wallace restored the lead for Ardfert in the 13th minute. 4 unanswered points from Dr. Crokes Fleming(2) & Brian Looney (2) gave Crokes a lead they were not going to relinquish. Further minors by Wallace & Egan for Ardfert and Kieran O’Leary and Brian Looney for Crokes left the halftime score Dr. Crokes 0-08 Ardfert 0-05.

Michael O`Grady opened the scoring in the second half with a point in the 3rd minute, Wallace with a free and Jonathan Best narrowed the gap 0-09 – 0-07. )O`Grady increased Crokes lead with a fine effort in the 10th minute.

From here to the finish both sides were guilty of some wasteful shooting with Crokes being the more guilty party. Eamon Ferris with a long range effort in the 16th minute completed the Ardfert scoring and Buckley with a free in the 21st likewise for Dr. Crokes.

Best for Dr. Crokes were the outstanding Michael Moloney at full back ably assisted by Keith McMahon and John Payne, Luke Quinn never put a foot wrong at centre back. Johnny Buckley & Ambrose O’Donovan dominated the centre field exchanges while Brian Looney, James Fleming & Michael O`Grady were the pick of the forward line.

M. Moloney, E. Ferris, J. Egan, J. Dowling tried hardest for Ardfert.

Team: Kieran Cremin, Keith McMahon, Michael Moloney, John Payne, Batt Moriarty, Luke Quinn, Shane Doolan, Ambrose O’Donovan, Johnny Buckley(0-02), Gavin Tucker, Kieran O’Leary(0-01) James Fleming(0-03), Brian Looney(0-03), Kieran Brosnan, Michael O`Grady(0-2).

E.K.S.L. Dr. Crokes 1-10 Legion 0-13. played in Direen on Thurs last fielding only six regulars we drew with our town rivals. Trailing 0-7 to 0-2 at the break continuous pressure in the second half gave us the lead with 2 minutes remaining but our opponents secured a share of the spoils with a late equalizer. Good displays on the night from Michael Moloney, Luke Quinn, Brian McMahon, Ambrose O’Donovan, James Fleming, Gavin Tucker and Michael O`Grady.

East Kerry Junior League began on Tuesday 10th of April and our first game was against Kilcummin  away from home. The home side began brightly and took some points early on to go into a lead which they kept until the end. The final score being Kilcummin 0-13 Dr. Crokes 0-8.

The next match was against last years winners Gneevegulia at Lewis road last Tuesday night 17th .We started the game much better and the overall teamwork was much improved. Playing with a slight breeze we scored some fine points and were playing well even though we were also guilty of poor quality passing and wasteful distribution at times in the game which on another night could cost us scores. We lead at half time by 0-5 to Gneevegulia  0-2, due to some very good work by the defense. We began the second half with a good tempo and asserted ourselves with a fine goal after some good interchange of passing and this put us into a good position to win the game which we did with a good solid performance. The defense were excellent at times with Mike Cooper doing very well at full-back, assisted well by Brian o Donohue, Gavin Tucker, Diarmaid o Donovan, Kevin Smith, Kevin Landers, at mid-field Nicholas Murphy and the tireless Ian Howard were excellent, as were the forwards of Denis Galvin, Philip O Connor, Tommy Regan, David Looney Shane Horgan and Brian Clarke. Alan Kelly dealt very well with all questions asked of him to date and is doing well in his first year at this level. The final score was Drcrokes.com 1-09  Gneevegulia 0-5. Team and panel: Alan Kelly, Kevin Landers. Mike Cooper, Kevin Smith, Gavin Tucker, Brian O Donoghue, Diarmaid O Donovan, Ian Howard, Nicholas Murphy. Philip O Connor, Tomas O Regan, David Looney (Capt), Denis Galvin, Brian Clarke, Shane Horgan, John Payne, Colm Griffin, Shane Kavanagh, Pat Hand, Mike Nash, Alan Lyne, Timmy Hourigan, James Hurley. The next game is at home in Lewis road this Tuesday night at 7.30pm  against Currow. Training is on every Tues.& Friday at 7.00pm.

Dr Crokes Senior  Ladies League Game  Vs Abbeydorney Lewis Road April 2nd.Dr. Crokes  2-08  Abbeydorney 3-08

Played in ideal conditions this was the first competitive game of the year. The team performed very well and were leading at half time by 1-05 to 0-05 the goal coming from Amy O” Neill. However abbeydorney began with a high tempo style of football and the experience of playing senior league already this year slowly took control and took some good quality scores.Niamh Sheehan was brought down for a penalty which was taken by Laura Buckley and executed to perfection. The superior fitness levels of abbeydorney took their toll and we ran out of steam towards the end of the game. The scores were level up until 3 minutes from time and a late goal denied us a result which would have been pleasing to all. This was not to be and while playing a number of young footballers for the first time at this level it shows that we will be competing at the highest level later in the year.Well done to all the panel.

Team Marie Cahillane Kerry Beckett. Threasa Cahillane (Capt). Niamh O Shea. Annie Mc Monagle. Edel O Carroll. Jo-Anne Spillane. Cassandra Buckley. Mairead Finnegan. Fiona Brady Amanda Brosnan. Laura Buckley. Amey O Neill Nianh Sheehan. Lisa Courtney. Caroline O Shea. Aoife Doyle. Michelle Brosnan. Margaret O Connor. Aishling Clifford.

We lost last week to a strong Laune Rangers team in Killorglin and even though the girls played very well and put in a good performance, the unavailabity of our Kerry representatives proved to much against the opposition.

Commiserations to our players Cassandra Buckley, Amanda Brosnan, and Mairead Finnegan who lined out with Kerry in National League s/final defeated by Galway.

Coiste Na Og:

On Sat. last we hosted Listowel Emmets in numerous challenges boys & girls. A great time was held by all.

U12.Dr. Crokes 2-08 Legion 2-09. in the opening game of this years league we went down to local rivals by the narrowest of margins. We started the stronger, kicking some excellent points from play and led at the break 1-07 to 0-04. in the second half our opponents piled on the pressure and a last gasp goal saw us come up short by the 1point. We battled hard all through and undoubtedly we will improve from this outing. Next outing on Sun. next 7pm v Austin Stacks at Lewis Road.

U14. Dr. Crokes 2-15 Rathmore 4-08. this was a very entertaining game played in Rathmore on April 18th. we started well playing some attractive football, goals by Gavin O`Shea and Derrick Maye along with some fine points from Anthony Cronin left us leading at half time 2-09 to 0-06. early second half points by Brian O`Shea extended our lead. Rathmore produced a tremendous fight back in the final minutes but we held on for a victory by the minimum margin.

U16 East Kerry League - Dr. Crokes vs. Spa - Monday 16th April

A great performance to hopefully begin our winning ways.  Having conceded two early goals our team took control of this game half way through the 1st half. Two goals by Alex O' Sullivan gave the team a great boost and by half time Crokes were dominating most areas of the field. Half time score: Dr. Crokes 2-2 Spa 2-2

At the start of the 2nd half , the team upped their performance - the back line tightened up considerably and were inspired by great performances from Joseph Keogh and from P.J. Lawlor (Captain). Kieran Ward and Timmy O' Donoghue continued to put pressure on the Spa midfield pairing. Lots of hard work from Chris Brady  Eoin Clifton and Keith O' Leary ensured a variety of attacking options were available for the team. Cian Buckley won a lot of ball and finished with a total of 1-3 from play. Steve Clifford, back after a number of years, contributed 1-1 when he came on as a substitute. The scoring could have been higher but for poor shooting after all the hard work was done. However the team can be very proud of the effort and commitment shown by all.

Final Score: Dr. Crokes 4-9     Spa 2-6

Team & Scorers: James Barry, Conor Fitzgerald, Joseph Keogh, Sean Coppinger, Gordon Buckley, P.J. Dr. Crokes 1-11 Kilcummin 1-11

In this Co. League Div. 1 game played in Lewis Road on Sun. last it took an injury time goal from a 13 metre free from Eoin Brosnan to give Dr. Crokes a share of the spoils. Crokes who started minus 4 of the All Ireland Club starting 15 and seven panel members were not their usual fluent self and never played to their full potential.

Shane Mc Sweeney opened the scoring for Kilcummin in the 4th minute which was quickly followed by a Kieran O’Leary reply. Kieran O’Donoghue  and Johnny Buckley exchanged points to leave the sides level after nine minutes. This pattern continued for the remainder of the half with 3 points(2frees) from D. J. Fleming and  1 from S. Doherty for Kilcummin answered by 2 from Kieran O’Leary, Michael Moloney and James Fleming to leave the sides level at the half way stage 6 points each.

Kilcummin started the livelier in the second half and points from McSweeney and Paul O’Donoghue stretched their advantage after 4 mins. Kieran Brosnan narrowed the gap in the ninth minute and then came the all important goal for Kilcummin finished by Mike O’Connor to leave them with a 4 point advantage 1-08 – 0-07. Crokes as is their norm continued to plug away ad further by Ambrose O’Donovan and K. O’Leary narrowed the gap to leave the score at the three-quarter stage 1-08 to 0-09. Fleming stretched the Kilcummin lead with a further point in the 20th minute to be quickly replied a score from Dr. Crokes substitute M. O`Grady.  M. O’Connor for Kilcummin and James Fleming from a free for Dr. Crokes exchanged points. With normal time fast approaching Crokes laid siege on the Kilcummin goal and the crossbar from a thunderbolt from O’Donovan and the post from M. Moloney thwarted their efforts. In one final attack deep in injury time Kieran O’Leary was heavily challenged from the resultant free Eoin Brosnan somehow found the net even though there were 11 bodies on the goal line.

Best for Dr. Crokes were John Payne, Michael Moloney, Ambrose O’Donovan, Kieran O’Leary, and debutant Johnny Buckley

Coiste Na Og:  U 12 Hurling  Considering the result of our last meeting with
Dingle in the earlier rounds of this competition, we approached this
game with some trepidation. However as things turned out this game
was very satisfying and all the hard work put in over the last month paid
off. The hurling was stylish and quick  and with Laurence Byrnes and Miceal Burns lording matters in the middle of the field, Dr Crokes had scored  four goals before the break. Billy Courtney was confident in goals and the defense was in a mean frame of mind with Conor McSharry and Daniel Healy to the fore. In the forwards there was some great movement and Chris Doncel hit the target twice.
One of his goals was a twenty yard pile driver. Michael Casey and Miceal
Burns   got the other two goals. Dingle scored three points.
In the second half  the expected onslaught arrived and for most of that
period we held out due to some heroic defending by Michael Owen Buckley, John L Ivory, Jack Lenihan and Caolan O'Donoghue, however in the end a few unlucky bounces saw Dingle gain a slight advantage to run out winners and go onto the final.
Our lads can be very proud of their progress over the last month and  the
mentors are satisfied that this progress will be built on in the county championships later on. Well done boys.
Team :- B Courtney, D Healy, J L Ivory,(Capt) M O Buckley,  C McSharry, M
Burns, C O'Donoghue, L Byrnes, J Lenihan, T Brosnan, C Doncel, D Sheehan, O O'Connor, M Casey, G White. S Hurley, J A Harrington.

U. 14 Co. League, Kilcummin 2-10, Dr. Crokes 0-08. we suffered our first defeat in this years league in an exciting contest played in Kilcummin. Our defense was led by an inspirational captain Mark Egan, the midfield pairing of Bryan O`Shea and Chris Lawlor continue to impress. Two well taken goals from our opponents was the difference between the sides. Our forward line tried hard throughout and were unlucky with a number of efforts.
We held a very successful Easter Camp last week were unprecented large numbers participated. Held in brilliant sunshine the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and undoubtedly will have learned from the experience of honing their skills in Gaelic games. The club are deeply indebted to the Events committee and all the coaches for their efforts.

Next weeks Jackpot €9,600. numbers drawn on Mon. April 9th were 1,4,5,10. 10 matched 3 numbers each receiving €50.

Corporate Lunch: we held a very successful Corporate Lunch on Grand National Saturday at Killarney Racecourse. The purpose was to defray some of the enormous cost of the All Ireland Club campaign. The Club Officers would like to thank all who supported  and contributed to the event. Their was a tremendous feeling of comradeship and fun amongst all present who entered into the spirit of the occasion which could be evident from the “Auction” where Auctioneer on the day Vince Casey cajoled and embarrassed punters to dig deep. Many thanks to Co-coordinator Vince on a successful venture.

Birthday Greetings: Congratulations to Senior full back Luke Quinn on receiving the key of the door last weekend.

East Kerry Minor League: Dr. Crokes 1-14 Rathmore 1-16 short a number of regulars we lost out to Rathmore in a high scoring game on Sat. last. This was a good game with some excellent scores from both sides. Rathmore led at the break 1-06 to 0-07 with 10 minutes to go the sides were level when T.J.Cronin got on the end of a great move to finish to the net. Rathmore finished the stronger and finished winners by 2 points.

On the night Michael McMahon and Timmy Dudley were the pick of the defense while in the forwards Pat Fuller, Ruairi Mangan and T. J.Cronin tried the hardest. Team: David Neeson, Michael McMahon, Timmy Dudley, Chris Egan, Donal Cronin, Fionn Fitzgerald, Niall O’Connell, John Bartlett, David O’Leary, Daithi Casey, Ruairi Mangan, Pat Fuller, T.J.Cronin Philip O’Connor, Shane O’Neill.

Coiste Na Og

A home game for the under  12 hurlers brought the best in players and the supporters on this  fine sunny evening. We saw some great hurling skills from both sides and some fast hurling also. This game for  tough and close with Kenmare being ahead at the break . Crokes did very well  in the first half and had
some fine scores from Miceal Burns and Laurence Byrnes.  These two were doing well at midfield and were  ably assisted by Conor McSharry and John L Ivory in defense.
In the second half, we started  well and Miceal Burns scored a fantastic
goal after a blistering solo run. Jack Lenihan and Oscar O'Connor  tried everything they knew in the forwards, however in the last  ten minutes
Kenmare got a few vital goals and their victory was sealed.
This was another heartening performance by our under 12 hurlers and  we must
continue to build on this . Well done boys.

All Ireland Club Final replay: Dr. Crokes 1-05 Crossmaglen 0-13. “ The dream is over” at Portlaoise on Sunday last we succumbed to the physical power of Crossmaglen in this replayed All Ireland Club final. In a game that we never reached the heights of our display in the drawn encounter we were defeated by the better side on the day. Scores wins games and when we were in the ascendancy for a period in the second half we were unable to put our advantage on the scoreboard. Much media attention has been drawn to the refereeing error in his failure to administer the rules properly and correctly in what has now become known as the “second yellow card incident”. This was at a very crucial stage of the game when the sides were level, while it may not have had any bearing on the final result one has to question the competence of the officials appointed to such a high profile game played in a highly charged atmosphere. This does not take away from the Crossmaglen victory and we congratulate them. To our own lads you were a credit, the enjoyment you have given has been wonderful, along with the management and the club executive you have worked so hard  over the last 3 years to reach the Holy Grail “ All Ireland Club Champions” and to fail at the final hurdle is no mean achievement. To our magnificent supporters we say a large “Gur a maith Agat”. You have been tremendous, you vocal support and the color you brought to the various venues(not to mind the support you gave to local economies) is very appreciative. To all the Schools, Business Premises, Town Council for their decoration we appreciate your wonderful effort. To the clubs of Kerry especially the East Kerry clubs we thank you for your support and to all those who send messages by post, text, and email we appreciate. Yes we are disappointed, but like all Dr. Crokes teams we will re-group and return stronger and hopefully return with the Andy Merrigan Cup in the not too distant future.

Corporate Lunch: to help alleviate the enormous cost of the All Ireland Club campaign we are holding a Corporate Lunch in Killarney Racecourse on Grand National Saturday April 14th. Further details from co-coordinator Vince Casey.

Minor Co. League Div. 1: Dr. Crokes 3-10 Laune Rangers 2-05.

We continued our winning ways with a good workmanlike performance with a fine victory over Laune Rangers. While never reaching the heights of our opening round performance it still showed a lot of positives. Our wing backs Donal Cronin & Timothy Dudley gave terrific displays and were the springboard for many of our attacks. Powered by Johnny Buckley at midfield our forward on the night were quite wasteful and did not avail of the supply especially in the opening half. We led at the break 2-05 to 1-04 with the goals coming from Niall O’Connell, and a Jamie Doolan penalty. A wonderful goal from T.J.Cronin midway through the second half gave us a commanding lead with the second Laune Rangers goal coming from the penalty spot at the final whistle. Team: David Neeson, Timothy Dudley, Jonathan Clarke, Michael McMahon, Donal Cronin, David O’Leary, Fionn Fitzgerald, Johnny Buckley, John Bartlett, Daithi Casey, Philip O’Connor, Niall O’Connell, T.J.Cronin, Ruairi Mangan Jamie Doolan(Capt.) subs; Shane O’Neill, Pat Fuller. Chris Egan, Mark O’Donoghue, Kieran Ward, James Barry.

Coiste Na Og: U14 Co. League; Dr. Crokes 3-07 Austin Stacks 1-05. this was a great team performance on our first outing of the year, we came under a lot of pressure in the opening minutes going 2 points in arrears, a tremendous goal from Will Horan followed by points from Bryan O`Shea and Cillian Fitzgerald gave us the lead which was temporary when Stacks scored a goal just before the break leaving us trailing by the minimum 1-03 to 1-02. 2 quick goals at the beginning of the second half by Gavin O`Shea and Cillian Fitzgerald gave us the momentum. In what was a great second half performance further points by Fitzgerald, Cian O`Lionard, Derek Maye, and Brian O`Shea ensured victory.

Juvenile Hurling Dr Crokes V Kilgarvan.  U 12 hurling.  Fri 30/03/07.
In this keenly contested and very competitive  second round game of the South Kerry under 12 hurling league, Kilgarvan emerged winners.
Considering that  we fielded a young under 12 side and we were  missing three of our usual under 12 stalwarts due to other commitments , our lads put on a brave and much improved  performance. We were unlucky in front of goal  a few times and if things had worked out
it would have been a  different story at the final whistle. Billy Courtney  was assured in goals and his confidence will be growing with
every game. In front of him, the backs were strong and defiant  with John Ivory, Michael Burns and Conor McSharry leading the charge and being ably assisted by Aaron Murphy and  Daniel Healy. In midfield young Jack Lenihan proved that he is a "chip of the old block"
with a tireless performance and Michael Casey's  workmanlike performance helped the cause in no small way. In the forward division Chris Dancel , Mark O'Shea and David Hartnett made many fine openings and really tested the Kilgarvan defense. Closer to the goals Oscar O'Connor and Michael Owen Buckley were gaining valuable experience at this level and  acquitted themselves well. Mark Hartnett and Alan O'Doherty added fresh legs when introduced and can be happy with their contributions to this  contest. All the boys gave 110 percent effort and it was very rewarding for the mentors and supporters to see such dedication . It will be only a matter of time when this type of
performance will be reflected on the scoreboard.  Final score 5 - 4  to  1-1. Dr Crokes Team :-  B Courtney, D Healy, J Ivory, (Capt), A Murphy, M Burns, C McSharry, M Casey, J Lenihan, M O'Shea, C Dancel, O O'Connor,Ml O Buckley,D Hartnett,M Hartnett,A O'Doherty
