30/08/06 Senior Co. League Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 1-11 Gaeltacht 0-18, played at home on Sat. last we lost to the men from the west in a game where both sides were short their Inter County regulars. Former All Ireland winning captain Dara O`Cinneide showed that he has lost none of his accuracy finishing with a personal tally of 10 points 8 of which came from placed balls. in a game where we played second fiddle in most departments our tendency to concede easy frees was punished time and again. We led by four points after 25 minutes thanks to quick thinking by Andrew Kenneally when a speculative quick free finished in the net but some terrible messing by some of our defenders gifted Gaeltacht 3 points to leave the minimum between the sides at the break. Gaeltacht started the second half in a flurry and had five un-answered points in the opening 8 minutes, it is to our credit that we drew level after 19 minutes at 1-10 to 0-13 but we failed to capitalize and could only manage one score in the final ten minutes while Gaeltacht tagged on 5 points to run out worthy winners by 4 points at the end. BBQ: the members BBQ held on Friday last was once again an outstanding success. This occasion is fast becoming one of the highlights of the year on the social front where young and old meet in a joyous atmosphere. As usual the organization was first class and all credit must go to the Events Committee, super chefs Pat & Brian, thirst quenching providers Seamie Doc, Philip, and Shane for their efficiency in dispensing the soda and entertainers the O`Mahony brothers Jackie & Colm, and despite the few showers which never materialized into much a wonderful evening was thoroughly enjoyed by the exceptionally large gathering. Anniversary: Congratulations to Brian & Dolores O’Callaghan who celebrated their 21st. wedding anniversary last week end. Congrats: to all our kids who participated in the Community Games Finals over the last 2 weekends, they all who performed admirably. Well done to David Shaw who won gold in the U8 80 meters., Oliver & Hannah Collins, Conor Murphy, Macdara Willis who won bronze in Chess. I’m reliably informed by a shrewd and informative judge that young Christine Cooper was most unlucky in the final and has a great future ahead of her, yet again another precocious talent with a famous surname. Good to see club members Des Clarke Snr. and Seamie Doc on the mend again following their recent procedures to repair some old war wounds. In another week or two they will be back kicking 45`s.

16/08/06 Senior: Co League Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 1-13 Castleisland Desmonds 3-06. An injury time point by Vince Cooper gave Dr. Crokes another brace of co. league points against a gallant Castleisland Desmonds side on Sat. last. it was a fortunate win for the home side who wasted possession with over elaborate hand passing and poor finishing on occasions. Dr. Crokes opened the scoring inside the first minute with a point from Andrew Kenneally, but Desmonds quickly showed they meant business with their aerial power in the full forward line causing serious difficulties for the Dr. Crokes defence they scored the first of their 3 goals in the 7th minute a shot that took a deflection in the square and left goalkeeper Kieran Cremin stranded. points from Kieran O’Leary (3) David Moloney (2) and James Fleming (1) gave Crokes a 3 point lead approaching the break when a great save by Crokes goalkeeper was adjudged to have crossed the line and gave parity at the break 0-07 to 2-01. Desmonds struck first blood in the second half and within 2 minutes had gone into a 4point lead following a point from John Brennan and an expertly taken penalty by centre back Kieran O`Sullivan. Assisted by a strong wind Desmonds began to take route 1 but the switching of James Cahillane to full back helped to stem the tide. Points from Brian Looney (2) and Kieran O’Leary (3) pushed Dr. Crokes in front and when O’Leary who had a personal tally of 1-06 finished to the net in the 22nd minute one felt that Dr. Crokes had done enough but it is the credit of Desmonds that they never stopped trying and scored 3 un-answered points in the last 5 minutes and looked like they had done enough to salvage a point but up stepped Cooper with the winner on the stroke of the final whistle. Best for Dr. Crokes were Keith McMahon, John Payne and James Cahillane in defence Ambrose O’Donovan at midfield while Kieran O’Leary who was the best player on view constantly posed a threat in the forwards.
Coiste Na Og:
Last Saturday a
Dr. Crokes U10 selection travelled to Spa GAA Club to play in an U10
Blitz. We were grouped with Rathmore, Fossa and Knocknagree,
playing some lovely football. We topped our group with Fossa taking
the second spot. In the semi-final we played Dunmanway and playing
against the breeze, we got some quick goals and led at half time.
In the second half we again dominated and won with plenty to spare.

O`Sullivan Cup: Dr Crokes “B” 0-13 Currow “B”1-8 This was a very well contested game at Currow where Dr Crokes won the battle of the black and amber sides thank to an outstanding display from David Moloney who scored seven points of his side’s total. Currow it was who made the early running and were four points to the good by the end of the first quarter with two points each from Denis Dennehy and Liam Brosnan. The winners recovered however with points from Moloney, Johnny O’Sullivan and Mike O’Donoghue to trail by just a single point at the break, 4 points to 3. Dr Crokes had the first two scores on the resumption, one of them a massive free by Moloney from over fifty yards, to take the lead, but points from Shane O’Shea and Liam Brosnan restored Currow’s lead. Points by Brian Clarke, David Moloney and David Looney edged the town side two clear at the three quarter stage, but then Currow’s David Fleming struck for a goal after a defensive mistake and the sides were level on three further occasions before late points from Moloney and Mike O’Donoghue secured a deserved victory for Dr Crokes. Scorers: Dr Crokes “B”; David Moloney 0-7, Michael O’Donoghue and David Looney 0-2 each, Johnny O’Sullivan and Brian Clarke 0-1 each U21 Championship Q/final. Dr. Crokes 3-08 St. Brendans 3-14.
Played at Lewis road on Thurs. August 3rd. a well prepared St. Brendans side had a convincing win over Dr. Crokes in this keenly contested game. St. Brendans opened brightly and led after 6mins. 1-02 to 0-00 with the goal coming from centre forward Conor Daly in a rare attack in the ninth minute Dr. Crokes full forward Florence McCarthy slipped the cover and finished to the net. the better combining St. Brendans forward line and after twenty two minutes led 3-04 to 1-01 their goals coming Seamus O`Neill and David O`Callaghan, Kieran O`Leary replied with a goal for Dr. Crokes to narrow the gap to leave the half time score 3-07 to 2-02 in favour of St. Brendans. on the resumption Dr. Crokes through caution to the wind and when Andrew Kenneally was upturned in the square in the second minute Shane Doolan expertly tucked away the penalty to narrow the gap. it is to Dr. Crokes credit that they continued to plug away and kicked some good points in the 2nd period and at one stage had reduced the defecit to 4 points but the stonger St. Brendans side were never in danger. best for St. Brendans were Stephen O`Mahony, Eoin O`Neill, Daniel Doyle, David Culloty Martin Ferris and Seamus O`Neill. while for Dr. Crokes Luke Quinn, Tommy Ryan Johnny O`Sullivan Kieran O`Leary Brian Looney and sub John Payne tried hardest.
Dr. Crokes: James Hurley, Tommy Ryan, Shane Doolan, Darren Coffey, Paudie Sheehan, Luke Quinn, James O`Regan, HJohnny O`Sullivan, andrew Kenneally. Podge O`Donoghue, florence McCarthy, Billy O`Leary, Kieran O`Leary, Pat Buckley, Brian Looney. Sub: John Payne, Mark O`Connor, N.B. this was a meaningless competition for club sides, it is time for the powers tat be realize that clubs have not a endless supply of players between the ages of 19& 21 and must rely on minor players. The mind boggles that a club must play a championship fixture without being able to field their strongest team. It is now time to reverse this nonsensical decision Minor Championship q/final DR CROKES 2-7 AUSTIN STACKS 2-5 Dr Crokes qualified for a semi-final meeting with East Kerry when they defeated Austin Stacks in this PK County Minor Football Championship Quarter-final at the Stacks Club Grounds in Connolly Park on Friday night. Twelve minutes into the second half, Stacks had built up a 2-5 to 1-3 lead and appeared set for victory, but the Tralee side failed to score for the remaining 18 minutes and Dr Crokes, sensing their opponents were there for the taking, pounced to produce a match-winning 1-4 without reply. Gavin Tucker, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O’Leary, Barry O’Connell and the outstanding Michael Moloney were best for Dr. Crokes It was that kind of a game. Scores were in scarce supply but the closeness of the exchanges ensured interest throughout. Stacks led by 1-4 to 1-2 at interval. The Rock got off to a dream start when Dr Crokes goalkeeper Alan Kelly somehow failed to hold a speculative punt from David White and as a result, the leather ended up in the net. Crokes’ normally reliable sharpshooter Jamie Doolin did not bring his shooting boots with him, and missed a number of chances throughout from play and frees. Crokes’ Donal Cronin scored his side’s goal in the 16th minute, when he availed of a fine pass from Daithi Casey to finish to the net Outstanding substitute Shane Carroll scored a fine individual goal to put Stacks five points clear with eighteen minutes to play, but the Rockies failed to score for the remainder of the game, despite having a number of good opportunities which were not availed of. Vitally for Dr Crokes, The Rockies grip at centre-field also began to loosen at this stage. With five minutes remaining, County Minor Johnnie Buckley struck to score his side’s second goal. The Killarney side now had the scent of victory in their nostrils, and minors from Jamie Doolin, from a free, and Donal Cronin sealed a famous victory for the Killarney side. Crokes now play East Kerry in the last four, and what an encounter that should be, while Stacks are left to ponder on what might have been had they availed of all their chances. Team and Scorers: Dr Crokes: Alan Kelly, David O’Leary, Michael Moloney 1-0, Fionn Fitzgerald, Barry O’Connell, Jonathan Clarke, Timmy Dudley, Gavin Tucker 0-1 (0-1 free), Ian Howard, Ruairi Mangan, Johnny Buckley 0-1 (0-1f), Daithi Casey, Donal Cronin 1-1, Jamie Doolin 0-4 (0-3f), TJ Cronin 0-1.

Played at home on Sat. last we led at the break 1-09 to 2-04 but we fell behind for the first time in the 20th minute to well take Rathmore penalty who then proceeded to increase their lead but great credit is due to our young lads who never stopped trying and fought all the way to the final whistle and level the game on a score line of Dr. Crokes 1-16 Rathmore 3-10.
