27/12/07 Co. Club U21; Dr. Crokes 1-09 Fossa/Listry 1-08. On Sat Dec. 22nd we brought the curtain down on 2007 with victory in the inaugural Co. U21 Club Championship with victory over neighbors Fossa/Llistry. Lining out without the influential Johnny Buckley in a game where we never reached our full potential we survived the late challenge of our opponents to win by the narrowest of margins. Scores were at a premium in the opening half Kieran O’Leary opened our account in the 8th minute followed by Michael O`Grady free in the 15th despite having ample possession for the second week in a row we were unable to put our advantage on the scoreboard. A Ruairi Mangan goal in the 24th minute after been put in possession by Jamie Doolan completed our scoring and we led at the break by the minimum 1-02 to 0-4 with all our opponents scores coming from placed balls. Jamie Doolan opened our account in the second half with a pointed free in the 4th minute further points in the 7th and 10th minute by Luke Quinn and Kieran O’Leary respectively stretched the lead, a brace by Brian Looney in the 15th and 20th minute gave us some leeway but our opponents kept in touch throughout further points by Mangan and Quinn stretched our advantage to four approaching the final whistle but a handling error in our goalmouth in injury time reduced the deficit to the minimum when a long range free finished up in the net. Our defense as a unit played well with Fionn Fitzgerald and Ian Howard particularly outstanding Luke Quinn and Shane Doolan played well at midfield while in the forwards Brian Looney. Ruairi Mangan and Kieran O’Leary were best on the day. Team: Alan Kelly, Fionn Fitzgerald, Michael Moloney, John Payne, David O’Leary, Ian Howard, Gavin Tucker, Luke Quinn, (0-02), Shane Doolan (Capt.) 19/12/07 East Kerry U21 final: Dr. Crokes 1-12 Rathmore 1-08. played in Rathbeg on Sun. last in Artic conditions we just got across the line after a tough struggle. Playing against a strong wind in the opening half it was in this period that we played our best football and carried the game to our opponents. Gavin Tucker opened our scoring in the third minute with a point, winning plenty possession around the middle our accuracy left a lot to be desired with many of our attempts falling short or being kicked hopelessly wide this coupled with a wonderful save by the Rathmore keeper made scores at a premium. We began to find our range and points from Shane & Jamie Doolan followed by minors from the midfield pairing of Buckley & Casey after 20 mins. a brace from Kieran 0`Leary pushed us ahead 0-07 to 0-05. Entering the final minute Jamie Doolan finished to the Rathmore net but our joy was short-lived as our opponents stormed up field and a speculative ball was finished to the net leaving the score at the short whistle 1-07 to 1-05. On the resumption our opponents carried the game to us and made life difficult despite we having ample possession and playing with the aid of a strong wind but squander mania amongst our attack left us struggling. Coming to the last 5 minutes the game could have gone in any direction but points from Shane Doolan, O’Leary Captain Luke Quinn and Johnny Buckley pushed us over the line. Team: Alan Kelly, John Payne, Michael Moloney, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O’Leary, Luke Quinn (Captain)(0-01), Gavin Tucker (0-01), Johnny Buckley 0-02), Daithi Casey (0-1), Barra O’Connell, Shane Doolan(0-02), Brian Looney, Mike O`Grady, Kieran O’Leary (0-04), Jamie Doolan (1-01).
