E.K.U21 Q/F Dr. Crokes 3-14 Scartaglin/Cordal 1-06. we overcame the spirited challenge of our opponents on Saturday last to qualify for the s/final of East Kerry U21 championship. The final score does not give a true reflection on the game as two of our goals came in the final 7 minutes. Team Alan Kelly, P.J.Lawlor, Michael Moloney, John Bartlett, Niall O`Connell, David O`Leary, Gavin Tucker, Johnny Buckley, Barra O`Connell, Donal Cronin, Daithi Casey, Keith O`Leary, Denis Galvin, Ruairi Mangan, Jamie Doolan. Subs; Michael McMahon, Jonathan Clarke, Conor O`Neill, David Neeson. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jamie Doolan who received a rib injury during the game.

COISTE NA OG E.K.U16 RD. 2 Dr. Crokes 1-22 Kenmare 1-04. We continued our winning ways on Monday 23 with a comprehensive  win over Kenmare. Both teams were evenly matched in the opening quarter but as the game progressed we took control all over and each and every player excelled. Our scorers on the night were Bryan O`Shea 0-09, Darragh Stack 0-03, Gearoid Coughlan 1-00, Chris Lawlor, Mark Egan, Daniel Healy,  0-02 each, Anthony Cronin, Gavin O`Shea, Cillian Fitzgerald, Paul Clifford 0-01 each.

Hurling Promotion Night The Dr. Crokes Hurling Club are holding their 2nd Hurling Promotion Night in the clubhouse this coming Friday 27th February 2009 commencing 7.30PM sharp.

Our first night back on November 28th was very successful and attracted great support.

The programme for this Friday night should also be very interesting.

We will be watching some DVD clips on various Inter-County games with analysis and discussion to follow.

We are also delighted to welcome John Griffin, the newly appointed Hurling Development Administrator for South Kerry who will give a talk on his role and expectations for hurling in Kerry for the years ahead. John, is also a current Kerry Senior Hurler, star mid-fielder who will no doubt give a few hints on how to progress to this level.

Then we will have an Inter- County Referee to give us an update on the rules of hurling and a view of the game from their perspective.

This should be very interesting and will surely assist all the juveniles in their understanding of the game and educate them on some discipline.

We are inviting anyone interested in hurling to attend on Friday night but we are especially hoping that all our u-12 panel, u-14 panel and u-16 panel will attend along with all mentors.

Parents are again very welcome to attend also.

GOLF SOCIETY we tee up for 2009 season under the capable duo of president Mike Neeson and Captain Der Brosnan on Saturday March 7 on O`Mahony`s Point. Tee times 9.am – 11am. Timesheet is now opened in the usual places.

CONGRATULATIONS to senior player Mike Moloney who recently was a beneficiary of a Cadbury third level Grant, and to Minster minors of 2008 who were presented with their medals on Friday last.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS last week was a busy time for birthdays, Vice President Nellie Kavanagh celebrated her 97th, Marina Connolly daughter of Jim & Kathleen, and Deborah Ann reached certain milestones, while up in Killenaule in Co. Tipperary Mary Hennessy mother of former officer Mella O`Connell celebrated her 100th. Mrs. Hennessy who contributes to our weekly lotto without fail and has won small returns on a number of occasions celebrated with her family and a large circle of friends in the Clonmel Park Hotel following mass in Killenaule. Special messages from the Archbishop of Cashel Dr. Dermot Clifford and President Mary McAleese. Presentations  were made on behalf of Tipperary CLG, Killeanaule GAA and Comhaltas. A long night of singing and dancing left some of the visiting folk from Killarney very tired on Sunday requiring them to have an early one. Congratulations to all.

COISTE NA OG E.K.L. U16 Dr. Crokes 1-10 Legion 2-05. played in Direen on Monday February 16 we overcame our neighbours with a tremendous display in the final quarter. This was a tremendous display of football so early in the season by two well-prepared teams.

While we had ample possession all through the game, our marksmanship left a lot to be desired kicking thirteen wides.

Trailing at half time 0-03 to 1-04 we were further in arrears with 15minutes remaining 0-6 to 2-05 but a spirited final quarter saw us score 1-04 without reply got us over the finishing line.

A tremendous performance by all with our defence outstanding throughout, our midfielders despite giving away a height advantage performed more than adequately, while the forward line when they find their shooting boots will be handful for any opponents.

Our U13 had an enjoyable outing to Cork on Saturday last partaking in the Simon Murphy Memorial tournament hosted by St. Michaels. We performed extremely well and were unlucky to meet a physically stronger St. Michaels in the final to whom we went down gallantly. 21 players all got valuable experience with ample game time.

LADIES FOOTBALL There will be a meeting on Monday the 23rd of February at 8.30 in the Clubhouse. All players and parents are asked to attend to discuss the future of ladies football in the club.

Any new members are also welcome we cater for girls from under 10 up to senior level.

COISTE NE OG on Friday last February 6 we continued our pre-season programme with a game under lights v Austin Stacks. Gearoid Coughlan and Niall O`Riordan were unavailable but we still had a panel of twenty four all who received ample game time.

UNDER 10 HURLING Well over 30 young hurling warriors turned up for training in St Brendan's College gym last Saturday.  We were deligted to see a number of new hurlers join our ranks and look forward to seeing them over the coming weeks improve their hurling skills.
Dr. Crokes were delighted to welcome last year's Kerry Captain and Christy Ring All-Star Award recipient, John Griffin, to our training session.  John spent a lot of time with our young players and passed on some very useful tips.  He has promised to visit us again in the next few weeks and he will bring his All-Star award with him, which will be a treat for players, coaches and parents alike.  Along with John, Dr Crokes are very lucky to have coaches of the calibre of Liam Bergin (Kerry Minor player), Timmy Hourigan (former Kerry player), John  Lenihan (Captain of All-Ireland Colleges Champions on two ocassions), Kieran Crehan and Matt O'Neill.  So, our young players have a vast resource of experience to learn from and we look forward, over the next few weeks, to a lot of fun, games and skills development.  Training for under 10 hurlers continues every Saturday morning from 11.30 to 12.30 in St. Brendan's College (Sem) gym.

COISTE NA OG  U10 hurling The start of another season of Saturday’s began last weekend with the under 10 hurlers’ first training session.  For the next two months these hurling warriors, who follow in the steps of Cú Chullain, Fionn Mac Chumhaill agus na Fianna, not to mention a host of more recent heroes, will develope their skills in the art of the camán.  Training takes place in St Brendan’s College (Sem) gym from 11.30 to 12.30 every Saturday.

There was a very good turn out last Saturday, even with a number of absences due to the flu bug and a very popular birthday which was attended by a large number of our hurlers.  Comhgairdeas Ruadhán ar do breithlá.  We also saw some new players arrive, which is always welcome.

So, let the cry go out CALLING ALL WARRIORS, who would like to PLAY HURLING and are BORN IN 1999 AND 2000 - St Brendan’s College gym at 11.30 am this coming Saturday.  All equipment will be supplied by qualified coaches.  Training will consist of skill drills and fun games and everyone is guaranteed to have fun in a safe, friendly and child-orientated learning environment.

U16 Ryan Patten had the honour of leading the first Dr. Crokes team out in 2009 in a pre season friendly against Kerins O`Rahillys on Sunday last. All players acquitted themselves well.

Training each Tuesday 6pm and Friday 7pm. this Friday February 6 we host Austin Stacks in another challenge 7pm under lights.  U16 mentors for 2009 Seanie O`Shea, Patrick O`Sullivan, P.J.Lawlor Karl McMahon and Der Brosnan.

CO. MINOR LEAGUE we open our 2009 campaign on Sat. February 28 with an away game v St. Michaels/Foilmore.
