All Ireland Q/Final: Dr. Crokes 2-12 St. Brendan’s 0-05.

A tremendous second half performance gave us a victory over  St. Brendan’s in this AIB club championship q/final  in Ruislip on Sun. last. Playing with the aid of a strong wind on a heavy pitch in the opening half we found it difficult to shake off a committed St. Brendan’s side who undoubtedly kept in touch due to the exploits of their goalkeeper who made numerous magnificent saves and had a few hearts fluttering at half time. Reverting to our tried and trusted passing game against the elements in the second period we carved open the St. Brendan’s defense on numerous occasions and when the Gooch converted the first of two penalties when Ambrose O’Donovan was hauled down this game was over as a contest. Our half back line of Batt Moriarty, Michael Moloney and Eanna Kavanagh along with Man of the Match Brian Mc Mahon & Ambrose O’Donovan at midfield snuffed out the St. Brendan’s threat and gave the forward line adequate supply of ball. The forward line as a unit always looked threatening and a return of 2-12 in heavy conditions speaks volumes.

Team; Kieran Cremin, Keith McMahon, Luke Quinn, Shane Doolan, Batty Moriarty, Michael Moloney, Eanna Kavanagh, Brian McMahon, Ambrose O’Donovan, Brian Looney, Kieran Brosnan (0-010 , James Fleming (Capt.) (0-02) Colm Cooper, (2-06) Eoin Brosnan (0-01), Kieran O’Leary (0-02) Subs; Vince Cooper, David Moloney (0-01) James Cahillane, John Payne, Bryan O’Donoghue.

Cricklewood: unlike the words of the song on this occasion there was no glasses flying neither were biddies crying but nevertheless The “Craic” was still good in Cricklewood. Our large band of traveling supporters well in excess of 450 who traveled  from Killarney, London residents,  others from various destinations in England, along with Ulick O`Sullivan and daughter Therese who made the long journey from Chicago thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the Crown and other hostelries in North London. It was a great opportunity for many of our emigrants to meet up with old friend and playing colleagues. After three sessions of late night chanting their was many a hoarse voicein the Hotel lobby on Monday morning as people prepared to return home. The players along with the management would like to thank each and everyone for their support.

O’Connor, Kerry Beckett, Niamh O`Shea and Kelly Payne were all excellent and held their opponents to a solitary point in the second half.
