U21 CO. CHAMPIONSHIP Dr. Crokes 0-08   South Kerry 2-09 In the Round 1  Co. U21 championship played in Lewis Road on Tues. 17/06/08 defending champions South Kerry overcame a gallant Dr. Crokes challenge to advance to the next round.

Both sides were forced to field without a number of regulars but the greater strength of South Kerry proved decisive.

Dr. Crokes opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a Jamie Doolan point from a free S. Kerry replied in the 5th with a Sean Cournane goal following a mix up in the Crokes defense. South kerry had further points from D. King, Paul O`Donoghue (2F) David Breen and Brendan Sullivan with replies from Crokes Doolan (2) and Brian Looney  to leave the half time score 0-04 to 1-05.

On the resumption O`Donoghue stretched the S. kerry lead with a point Crokes began to thunder into the game with Barra o`Connell dominating midfield and points from John Bartlett and J. Doolan(3) narrowed the gap. D. king had a point for S. Kerry and then came the the defining moment when O`Donoghue finished to the net following another defensive error by Crokes. O`Donoghue finished proceedings with 2 further points to leave South kerry advancing to the next round. Top scorers South Kerry  Paul. O`Donoghue 1-05, Dr. Crokes Jamie Doolan 0-06.

COISTE NA OG U12 Dr Crokes B 6-9 V Austin Stacks B 0-6. On last Friday night our U12 B Team got back to winning ways with a comfortable win over Austin Stacks in the County League.  We led at half time by 4 points and in the second half we changed gears to run out comprehensive winners.

We played lovely football on the night with some very impressive scores.  Again it was the team ethic that excelled on the night.  While we had 2 players getting hat-tricks on the night alas no match ball to show for it.  We believe ye lads!

Juvenile  Hurling. County Semi -Final - U 12 V Ballyduff. Played at home on a wet  evening, our lads started in brisk fashion and were not intimidated by the larger and physically stronger opponents. With Jack Lenihan and Micheal Burns  in charge of matter in the middle of the field Crokes needed to capitalise on the possession. Scores were slow to come, however a brace of point by both  Jack and Michael  had Crokes  ahead by  2 points after a quarter of an hour. Ballyduff got a goal after a fierce goalmouth scramble, however Jack Lenihan lofted over a superb point in Ben O'Connor style form way out the field. An inspiring score indeed. It was tit for tat from there to the break but alas Ballyduff got in for another goal to lead by that margin at the break. In the second half the rain spoiled the stylish hurling but our lads kept the fight going. Gavin White ,Daniel O'Brien  and young Mark O'Shea were in defiant mood in defence while Jason O'Sullivan  Mark O'Shea and Billy Courtney were to the fore in attack.

Thanks to a few points by Michael Burns and Chris Doncel the margin was cut to the minimum  with time running out. We just could not get ahead  and in the final 5 minutes Ballyduff  got the  decisive scores  to  settle the matter. Score 4-02 to 1-07.

Our lads can take great heart and encouragement from this performance, they

displayed some great skills and have improved a lot this season. The future looks bright for them.

COISTE NA OG U12 Co. League Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 2-15 An Gaeltacht 3-12 following on from our victory last week we again stepped up our game against a very strong physical West Kerry side and while a draw was a fair result, we certainly had the chances to take the victory, however we were happy with the result.  The backs played well, midfield battled all night and the forwards did likewise kicking some breathtaking points. Our over team play excelled on the night, this team that was short 2 players performed extremely well. Players can take credit in their own personal performances, well done all round.  We would also like to mention our opposition who played well also, this game was a spectacle, pure football being played by both sides.  We would also note the referee's performance who allowed the game develop in a fair manner to both sides - credit where credit is due.  Well done to all involved.
Congrats to our club members involved in the Kennedy Cup last week. Gavin O Shea and Niall O Riordan, ye did yourselves proud.  Well done to all the Kerry Team on your fantastic efforts.

U14  Dr Crokes 6-13  Rathmore 5-4  Our U14`s got back to winning ways in the second round of the East Kerry league on Monday night. Rathmore were the quicker to settle and our backs were finding it difficult to cope with the quick ball being played into Rathmore forwards.

Rathmore had amassed a 5 point lead before we registered our first score. We trailed at the break on a scoreline of 2-4 to 2-2. We upped our performance in the second half and played some good football. We improved as the game wore on and a scoring burst in the final minutes accounts for the margin of victory.Team: M. Willis, M. Ryan, E. O` Connor, M. Sheahan, M. O` Leary, A. Burns, J. Lyne, R. O` Connor, C. O` Lionard, L. Byrnes, P. Clifford, K. Flynn, T. Brosnan, W. Horan( Capt), J. Fitzgearld, C. Murphy, J. Courtney.

20 Crokes U-10 footballers travelled to Dromtariffe last Saturday week to defend the Brian Cronin Memorial tournament. After a slow start the boys went on to play great football and victories over Knocknagree and Thomas Russell's ensured that they qualified for the Championship finals the following Saturday.

In the round Robin series Crokes won well against Clondrohid, Boherbue and Millstreet to top the group and qualify for the final.

Kilmurray qualified from the other group and so Kilmurray and Crokes contested the final. It was a very even contest with tremendous football played by both sides. At the end Kilmurray emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4-4 to 2-9. Congratulations to Kilmurray.  It was a fantastic effort by all the Crokes U-10's .They conducted themselves very well over the 2 days, played great football and showed great heart. They are a credit to the club and we are very proud of them all.  The full panel was Patrick Wrenn, Donal O'Sullivan, Murt OShea, Kieran Fitzpatrick,Shane O'Connor, David Naughton, Conor Harrington, Billy Courtney, Mark O`Shea, Brendan Coppinger, David Shaw, David Rea, John Beecher, Dion Marcos, Jack O'Connor, James McAuliffe, Michael Potts, Kieran Sheehan, Mark Hartnett, Aodan De Bruna.

CO. LEAGUE DIV. 1 Laune Rangers 0-13 Dr. Crokes 0-11. Fielding very much an under strength side we lost our 100% league record when we went down to home side in Killorglin on Saturday last.

COISTE NA OG Dr Crokes 3-5  Glenflesk 3-23. Glenflesk made the short journey to Lewis road to play our U14`s in the East Kerry league. We were missing five of the team that played throughout the county league and this accounts somewhat for the one sided score line.

Glenflesk started better and our backs were under pressure to contain their forwards who were getting good ball played in. Cian O Lionard and Ryan O Connor then began to win the midfield battle which brought us into the game and we only trailed by 2 pts at half time on a score line of 2-5 to 2-3.The second half was all Glenflesk and they pulled away to run out comfortable winners. Best on the night for Crokes were Michael Ryan, Michael O Leary, Aodhan Burns, Jason Lyne and Cian O Lionard.Team : P. Clifford, M. Ryan, E. O` Connor, M. Sheahan, M. O` Leary, A. Burns, J. Lyne, C. (B) Dr. Crokes 4-09 Spa 7-04. we were under pressure from the start and trailed 6-04 to 1-03 at the break. We had a much improved performance on the resumption and we narrowed the gap to four points at the final whistle.

KING IN A KINGDOM OF KINGS by Fr. Tom Looney As well as telling the life story of Dick Fitzgerald, Ireland's first GAA superstar, the new book King in a Kingdom of Kings contains a facsimile of his 1914 bestseller How to Play Gaelic Football, the first ever GAA instruction manual. Reproduced here after 94 years, ``How to Play Gaelic Football`” is an original classic written for hurlers and footballers in Ireland and all over the world.

Author Tom Looney chronicles a superb sporting career that later branched into coaching, refereeing, and administrative roles at club, county, Munster and national levels. Dick Fitzgerald won four Kerry county championships, three Croke Cups (as captain) and five senior All Irelands in a career seriously disrupted by flying column adventures. As a Sinn Fein councillor who sided with Michael Collins post-treaty, he spent 1916 in five different prison camps. He masterminded Kerry victories from a Frongoch P.O.W. camp, the USA and in the home provinces. Dick Fitzgerald was a larger than life sportsman who also found time to play with Cork famed “Nils” and in 1917 lead Clare into a Croke Park football final against Wexford. King in a Kingdom of Kings brings his heroic exploits to a wider audience.

Dick Fitzgerald died tragically after falling from a roof on All Ireland weekend 1930. He was just 48. The funeral was postponed as many Kerry fans were already making their way to Dublin when the accident happened. That weekend Kerry won their ninth senior title and returned home to bury their King.

Fitzgerald Stadium is an enduring monument to a great Kerry sportsman and patriot; King in a Kingdom of Kings is a record of his life and achievements for lovers of Gaelic games in Kerry and throughout the world.

The book will be launched in our clubhouse on Friday June 13th @8pm all welcome.

CONGRATULATIONS to Megan Buckley who was on the Kerry team that qualified for the All Ireland U14 final.

CO. CHAMPIONSHIP RD. 1 Dr. Crokes 2-07 Rathmore 1-08. Played in the Fitzgerald Stadium on Tues. May 27th we were lucky to come away with a victory. Playing second fiddle in many positions and not showing any of our recent form we were dealt a major blow in the opening minutes when Johnny Buckley suffered a broken hand. Rathmore were first to score but points from Colm Cooper and a wonderful solo Jamie Doolan goal gave us the advantage. In a low scoring opening half we led at the break by the minimum. On the resumption we had to play with fourteen after Shane Doolan was show a second yellow at the break. For the third quarter we became more ragged and only for the inaccuracy of our opponents a surprise was on the cards, Kieran O’Leary although not 100% fit was introduced and immediately made his presence felt, Eoin Brosnan and Ambrose O’Donovan came thundering into the game at midfield and we gradually began to grind it out in all positions. O’Leary with a point narrowed the gap and the same player set up Brosnan for a goal  to give us the edge at the other end substitute John Payne made a timely intervention, with time almost up Jamie Doolan was through on goal when he was un-ceremoniously hacked to the ground by a defender in the ensuing melee O’Leary was shown red. When tempers cooled down Gooch tapped over the resultant free to give us a two point lead but it took a magnificent save from point blank range by Kieran Cremin deep in injury time to give us victory. Overall a poor performance but we showed tremendous courage in the final quarter to forge a victory. Best wishes to Johnny Buckley for a speedy recovery.

CO HURLING LEAGUE Dr. Crokes 4-16 Ballyheigue 0-06.  Playing at home on Wed 28th May, Crokes hurlers put in their best performance of the year and one could say it was the teams best performance for some years but in reality it was long overdue against a Ballyheigue side who were doing well in the league and underestimated the quality of the Crokes team. While the 20 point winning margin was in no way flattering, Gene Doherty, Timmy Hourigan John Lenihan, Cian O Toole and Ger Moroney, while lauding the teams display, know well that tougher tasks lie ahead in the Intermediate Championship and more work needs to be done and a greater turn out at training required.

While all the team played their part this game was highlighted by some rousing events and passages of play. You had Kilkenny man John Bergin playing his best game for Crokes notching 7 points from play and frees, 5 of those coming in a great first half which saw Crokes lead 1-9 to 0-1. You had a marvellous display of combined hurling from Seanie Morris, who is making good his return from injury and Mike O Keeffe who notched 4-3 between them with some skilful and stylish hurling. Then there was the eye catching display from wing backs Keith Curtin, who is back to his old self and Kevin Smith who is playing like a veteran of the game with tremendous positional play and scoring the best point of the match for good measure.

For the second game running the misfiled pairing of Kevin Landers with his spectacular fielding and Dave Coughlan with his all round strong play dominated proceedings and gave perfect ball to the inside line who did most damage.

The full back was very solid and Tom Murphy did his usual sweeping role at centre back. Diarmuid Lane at wing forward played a lot of ball and with extra training will be one of our key players.

All in all a great performance and one which will give Crokes every encouragement going forward. Our next league game is away to Causeway on Wed 4th June.

Once again, new members are always welcome. Training Monday and Wed nights 8.00pm.

Team: John Cagney, Mike Murphy, Gary Landers, Paul Griffin, Keith Curtin, Tom Murphy, Kevin Smith (0-1), Kevin Landers (0-1), Dave Coughlan (0-1), John Bergin (0-7, 2 f), Barry O Grady (0-1), Diarmuid Lane (0-1), Mike O Keeffe (1-1), Seanie Morris (3-1)

COISTE NA OG Our UII team have started their East Kerry campaign with two good victories. They have beaten Listry and Kenmare to date.

The Kenmare game was a great team performance as they were trailing by 4 points at the interval but after a tremendous second half rally they ended up with a 10-point victory against a very impressive Kenmare side.

Well done to the large panel of 24 players, keep up the good work lads.

U12 Dr Crokes 3-10 v Churchill 5-7. On last Sunday night we entertained Churchill in the 2nd phase of U12 Co. League Div 1.  This game started well and we led early on by 2-5 to 3pts, however the visitors struck late in the first half with 2 goals.  We started poorly in the second half and Churchill piled on the pressure and went into a 10pt lead, a few switches were made and we slowly began to find our game and it was Crokes who finished the stronger.  However, it was not to be our night and we ended up losing by 3 pts.  While the result was not ours on the night, the spirited performance and hard work by all is to be commended, so onward we go.  Our next game is away to Spa, which is to be arranged.
On a final note on the game it was a pity that the appointed referees are not turning up for games, not just at level but also at U14 and U16, please get your act together and fulfill the fixtures that are appointed.
Best wishes from our Club go to Killarney Celtic.  They contest the Danone Cup in Dublin this Saturday.  Three of our club members - Michael Burns, Chris Doncel and Darren O Doherty will play vital roles in this contest.  This tournament is an U11 All Ireland Final which is down to the last 8 teams.  Good luck to all involved.

Hurling U 14  V DingleMay 29th Our under 14 hurlers travelled to Dingle to play  the local lads in this county championship game.

Played  in damp conditions the  game was fast and open with both sides

trying hard to gain the upperhand. Cian O'Lionard  lead by example and

covered a lot of ground at centre back  and was strongly  assisted by Gavin White, Aaron Murphy and Caolan O'Donoghue. Chris Doncel found the net twice in the first half  however  we were  a goal down at half - time. In the second half  Johnny Courtney got a goal and a while later John Ivory found the net to put us in the lead. In the final frantic  ten minutes the home crowd proved to  be a 16th man and encouraged by this support Dingle eventually ran out winners on the

score of 5-01 to 4-00.At this point we have all of our initial games played are in a play off for a semi-final spot. Details of the play off will be known in a week so  there is  still a lot to play for. Training continues on Tuesdays  - 5.30  to 6.30pm.

Team :- A Goggins, M Casey, L Byrnes,C McSharry,G White,CO'Lionard,A Murphy,K Flynn,A Burns M Burns,CO'Donoghue,J Courtney,J Lenihan,J Ivory, C Doncel. J O'Brien,D Fleming.

U12 hurling  V Ballyduff....May 30th We hosted Ballyduff in  this under 12 county league game  in good conditions and it proved to be an exciting and entertaining game. While the final scoreline did not do justice to our gallant team, the hurling  they played  was exceptional. All through the team there were

star performers and none more so than Daniel O'Brien, Gavin White, Jack Lehihan, Micheal Burns and Michael Owen Buckley.  In attack Chris Doncel scored a goal however in general our forwards were guilty of a number of very scoreable misses. We dominated the first half and should have been well ahead by half-time. In fact  we were level  at 1-01  each. In the second half we continued to pley well but we tired somewhat and our lack of scores  was soul destroying. In the end Ballyduff got the points that mattered and won  on the score of  1-05 to 1-01.

This game  proved that the ability and skill is there and  our lads have no fear of any team at this level north or south of the county. We look forward to the knockout stages  with some enthuasism

Training continues on Tuesdays -5.30 to  6.30p Team :- S Lyne,A Murphy,C McSharry,M O'Shea,G White,D O'Brien,M O Buckley,MBurns, J Lenihan,B Courtney,J Murphy,M O'Shea,O O'Connor,C Doncel,F O'Donoghue,D O'Doherty,D O'Sullivan,G Murphy,D Fleming, L McCarthy,D Hartnett, M Hartnett,J O'Brien, J A Harrington.

U14 Ladies Dr. Crokes 1-6   Currow 1-2 After losing to Austin Stacks the previous Sunday evening, the girls had to pick themselves up and dust themselves down to play Currow the following Wednesday.  After all, there was a final against Spa on the line.  We headed to Currow and with true Crokes spirit the girls won out eventual winners although not without a few heart in mouth moments.  They are a fantastic bunch of players that show great determination and commitment.  The panel include: Katie Cronin, Chloe Doherty, Ellen Buckley, Aishling Harnett(capt), Samantha Marez, Amy O Donovan, Annie Potts, Megan Buckley, Amano Mauri, Sarah Potts, Coady Brosnan, Tara O Shea, Jessica Edwards, Olivia Dawson, Laura Galvin, Zoe O Sullivan, Clara Doyle, Claire Buckley, Caroline O Connell, Sinead O Sullivan, Shona Geurin, Fiona Lynch, Valerie Ashe.
