In a wide ranging address to the 121st  AGM held on Wed. Jan.23rd. Chairman Patrick O`Sullivan stated the highlights of the year was the winning of the O’Donoghue Cup, he said it was a tribute to the resilience and mental strength of both management and players to bounce back from the agonizing and controversial defeat in the All Ireland Club final. He congratulated Colm Cooper, Eoin Brosnan, Kieran Cremin, Kieran O’Leary and manager Pat O`Shea  on winning the All Ireland. He had special praise for the Management of the Junior Squad who had made a tremendous effort during the year and were duly awarded with victory in the Molyneaux Cup. He congratulated the U21 team on winning the inaugural Co. Club competition and commiserated with the Minors who fell at the final hurdle in both co. league and championship. He stated that we contested the final of all competitions in East Kerry. He sympathized with members who suffered bereavements during the year. He thanked club members who work so tirelessly in the various sub-committees which makes the club tick over. Stepping down after 4 years at the helm many tributes were paid to Patrick with speakers highlighting the time, energy, commitment, vision and enthusiasm he brought to the post. In a detailed report produced in a booklet and sprinkled with photos Sec. Breda Cronin outlined all the year activities. In-coming Chairman Vince Casey who was unanimously elected stated that it was his aim to complete the development but would not be possible without a major fund raising drive the details will be outlined in the coming weeks.

Board Delegates John Keogh, East Kerry Board Delegates, Donie O’Leary. All above will serve on the Executive along with a representative from Events Committee, Hurling Section, Ladies Football and Finance Officer Mike Buckley. Senior Manager John Galvin along with selectors Mark Cooper & Colm O`Shea, Trainer Denis Corridan. Junior Manager James Cronin, U21 Managers John Galvin/James Cronin. Minor Managers Mike Buckley/Vince Casey.

Coiste na Og: On Monday January 21st our juvenile meeting AGM was held. Chairman Seamie O’Doherty and Sec. Joe Maye will again be in charge for the coming year.  It was nice too see some new faces along with the old reliables.The meeting was most productive with a lot of topics discussed. As our juvenile numbers increase every year so must our care and attention as it is the kids who are the lifeline of the club. While the boys six to sixteen are well sorted we do need more help with the girls so we can build on the achievements and hard work already done. Coaching courses will be run in February for old and new coaches... watch this space.

Lotto: there was no winner of the Lotto jackpot of €3,000 on sun. last. Numbers drawn were 2,18,22,23. 4 persons matched 3 numbers P. Fleming c/o O’Brien’s, D. Birthday Greetings to Vice Chairman Seamie O’Doherty who celebrated last week, Mrs. Connolly Glenamaddy Co. Galway mother of Jim who celebrated her 100th last weekend.

Best wishes; for an enjoyable trip to the large Dr. Crokes contingent who jetted out this week for the super bowl.

Visitor; presently home on a short break from the Windy city is former player Paudie Mangan.

Sympathy: to the relatives of Dan Kavanagh R.I.P. V. President of the club who passed away on Sun. evening last.  Dan first played for Dr. Crokes in 1945. the holder of an All Ireland medal with Kerry won  in 1946  having previously played with Galway whilst a student in U.C.G.  He had also the distinction of winning Co. Championship with 3 different teams, An Daingean, Killarney, and Dick Fitzgerald’s. When the club began to develop their present facilities in the early nineties Dan took on the role of project manager and worked tirelessly and his expertise was invaluable in bringing to fruition the excellent playing facilities we have to-day. Wife Nellie is also one of our vice Presidents, sons Sean & Donal won several honours with Dr. Crokes, and grand children Donal, Shane, Eanna, Elaine, and Orna along with Colm Fuller have also worn the Black & Amber. Johnny Murphy Lr. Sunny Hill and it was in his former home on College Street that the club was founded. Mrs. A. Quinlan St. Brendan’s Terrace whose grandsons Ruairi and Alex played with the club, and to one of our Hurling squad Keith Curtin on the death of his mother in Doneraile. Annual Social: a large crowd attended the proceedings on Sat. last at the Dromhall Hotel. Der Brosnan was MC on the night and as usual kept proceedings moving briskly in his own imitable way.  Our DVD Dr. Crokes to Croker could be viewed on the large screen. Awards were presented to Club Person of the Year and recipient of the Billy Myers Cup Brian O’Callaghan, Supporter of the year and this years holder of the Eddie Barry Cup Matthew Courtney, Footballer of the Year Colm Cooper who received the Tim O’Mara Cup, Junior Player of the Year Kevin Smyth, Young Player of the year and winner of the Haulie Keogh Cup Johnny Buckley, Hurler of the Year Jim Kennedy, Ladies Player Joanna Spillane, Special Merit Award Winner Laura Buckley. Other speakers were Mayor of Killarney Niall O`Callaghan, Dr. Crokes Chairman Patrick O`Sullivan, Co. Board Secretary Eamon O`Sullivan, and newly elected East Kerry Board Chairman Dermot Griffin. Enjoying proceedings was former All Star Hurling Goalkeeper Galway native Michael Connelly along with his wife Marie in the company of his buddies Jim Connolly and Eddie Tatler.

Juvenile AGM: will be held in the Clubhouse on Mon. Jan. 21st @ 7.30p.m. sharp. Juvenile chairman Seamie O’Doherty is looking for a large turnout. He is extending a welcome for everyone who is committed to Juvenile affairs especially parents to attend. New members are welcome.

Sympathy: to the relatives of the late Mary Buckley who was a lifelong supporter of the Club. Sons Mike & Denis gave great service on the field of play. Golf Society: We had a good turnout for our Annual 3 man Scramble on St. Stephens Day. The winning team was Brian O`Regan, John Keogh, Harry Bartlett, 2nd. Pat O’Connor Sean Brosnan, (Capt.) Ger Collins. Joey Sheehan was declared Golfer of the Year and sponsor Vince Casey presented him with the Eddie Barry Memorial Cup. 2008 President is Fr. Paddy O’Donoghue, Captain Mike Buckley. Our first outing is in February all members will be given ample notice.
