ANNUAL SOCIAL held on Saturday January 24 in the Dromhall Hotel, a large crowd attended where Dermot Griffin Chairman East Kerry Board C.L.G. was Guest of Honour. Medals were presented to the winning O’Donoghue Cup & East Kerry U21 winning teams and special merit awards to All Ireland winning medallists Kerry U21`s Johnny Buckley, Brian Looney, Kieran O’Leary, Michael Moloney, Jamie Doolan and Girls U14 Megan Buckley. The annual awards were presented and the recipients’ were Club person of the year and presented with the Billy Myers Cup by Catherine Myers was Moss Harmon “for his outstanding contribution to Dr. Crokes and in particular in his role as Club Treasurer”. The winner of Eddie Barry Memorial Cup presented by Tadhg Hickey was the genial sign man Joe O`Shea. Hurler of the year in his first year with Dr. Crokes Newtonshandrum native David Coughlan “has shown a commitment second to none”. Ladies player of the year a young person “a versatile player and all round athlete” Cassandra Buckley. Young player of the year and winner of the Haulie Keogh memorial Cup presented by John A. Keogh  to Daithi Casey “for his outstanding displays for both club and county this unassuming young man has the potential to go all the way”. Junior player of the year was won by Barra O’Connell for his fantastic commitment “a model of consistency and the ease he made the transition to senior ranks is a lesson to all young players”. Senior player of the year and winner of the Tim O’Meara Memorial Cup presented by Aideen O’Meara was Eoin Brosnan “ for his exemplary behaviour both on and off the field a proven leader of men and for his overall commitment to Dr. Crokes”.

We would like to thank the Dromhall Hotel, management and staff for a wonderful meal to the band the Classics and DJ Botty for excellent entertainment all that contributed to a wonderful evening.

COISTE NA OG Juvenile Registration Day will take place in the clubhouse on Sunday, March 1 It is imperative that all Juveniles boys and girls under the age of 16 on Jan.1 are registered. Further details next week.

Under 10 indoor hurling starts this Saturday morning January 31 in St Brendan's College gym at 11.30 am and finishes at 12.30 pm.  All boys and  girls born in 1999 and 2000 who wish to learn the skills of hurling are invited to attend.  Hurleys, helmets and sliothars will be supplied.  

LOTTO the jackpot of €3,000 was not won on January 25 numbers drawn were 1, 8, 10, and 16. Eleven patrons matched 3 numbers each receiving €50. Jackpot on Sunday next February 1 €3,300.

MEMBERSHIP for 2009 is now due and may be payable to Registrars Seamie O’Doherty or Harry Bartlett. Cost Husband/Wife €50, Adult €30 Player €50, Student/Youth €15. Clear Air Boys Supporters Club €100 automatically includes club membership.

TEAM MANAGEMENT our senior management team for the years 2009/2010 will be Harry O’Neill, Denis Coleman, and Donie O’Leary. U21 Donie O’Leary, John O`Shea and Matthew Courtney. The gremlins got to last weeks notes when the Junior manager should have read John O`Shea. Apologies to both John and James Cronin for the mix up.

Since these appointments, the club is buzzing with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and confidence and the members are eagerly looking forward to the forthcoming season and hoping for a return to the halcyon days of old.

DEVELOPMENT last week saw the fit out the gym; this will be of enormous benefit to the club going forward in the preparation of teams to compete in the modern era. In these hard pressed economic times this is a tremendous investment by the club and would not be possible without the help of the recently formed Supporters Club “The Clear Air Boys” whose initiative we greatly appreciate.

Those of you who have not yet signed up to the “Clear Air Boys” please do so immediately and you will see the positive investment of your contribution.

BIRTHDAY WISHES to Registrar Seamie Doc who celebrated at the Annual Social.

The AGM of Dr. Crokes G.A.A. Club was held on Jan. 15th. Chairman Vince Casey in a wide-ranging address stated that the highlight of the year was the winning of the O’Donoghue Cup for the third year in succession.

He congratulated all teams for their efforts during the season especially those successful in bringing home silverware, Johnny Buckley, Kieran O’Leary, Brian Looney, Mike Moloney, Jamie Doolan and Megan Buckley on winning Munster and All Ireland medals, Daithi Casey and Fionn Fitzgerald on winning Munster Minor medals.

He paid tribute to the two retiring officers Hon. Secretary Breda Cronin & Ast. Secretary Joe Maye for the tremendous work they have done for the club over a considerable period.  He thanked O’Brien’s for coming on board as the main sponsor of the club and O’Neill’s and remarked on the high quality of casual gear that is now available for purchase by club members. He thanked all members for their tremendous contribution to the varying fund raising activities that the club undertook during the year. He sympathized with those who lost loved ones during the year.

In conclusion, he thanked his fellow officers, team mentors, lotto sellers, and everyone who contributed to the workings of the club during the year.

In a detailed and comprehensive document Hon. Sec. Breda Cronin outlined all activities that occurred during the year, she congratulated players who wore the county jersey with pride.

Joint Treasurers  Moss Harmon & John Lenihan were complemented on the production of a well prepared financial report.

GAA 125 on Sunday last in the second programme on TG4 Club stalwart and Author of King in a Kingdom of Kings Fr. Tom Looney was one of the main contributors. Fr. Tom`s book is available in the Club Shop.

SCOR Irish dancing practise will take place in the Clubhouse on Thursday 6.30pm.

GOLF SOCIETY the Annual Scramble was held in the Ross G.C. on St. Stephens Day. 38 hardy souls braved the cold elements and the victorious team was Eoin Brosnan, Tom Looney and John O`Shea. A great evening of banter and song followed and no doubt a little sampling of seasonal fare.

Mike Neeson & Harry O’Neill are the President and Captain respectively of the Society for 2009 and we wish both every success.

CONGRATULATIONS to Keith McMahon & Mary Cahill on their engagement  over the festive season.
