June Reports 2007

27/06/07

Co. League Div. 1: Milltown/Castlemaine 1-05 Dr. Crokes 0-05  in what was our worse display for a considerable period of time we lost this vital co. league game on Sat. last. Although short many regulars this was a game we could and should have won but when a team kicks in excess of twenty wides it tells its own story.

Coiste naOg:  U12 Hurling Co. final: Played in ideal conditions at Austin Stack Park , Tralee  our under 12 hurlers put on a great display  and were unlucky to lose this game.

It was agreed that our team are the most improved team in the county  in a short period of time and they showed all their skills in this game.
We got off to a bad start and the early nerves worked against us . Unfortunately  our usually sound defense and goalie  conceded two goals in the first  ten minutes but  this setback galvanized us into a  great comeback  and coming up to half time the score was 2-00 to 1-03. Our goal came from Chris Doncel and  Laurence Byrnes got three points . Some strong pressure from Kilmoyley  was rewarded with a bullet of a goal before half time so at the break the score was  3-00  to1-03.
In the second half  all our lads showed great character and pulled the
deficit back to just one point and could have gone into the lead but for  some great defending by Kilmoyley. In a hectic last ten minutes some subs added their strength  to the battle but there was no  way through for us. A breakaway goal by Kilmoyley  sealed our fate but true to their form, this team never gave up  and Kilmoyley were gracious enough to admit that in their victory speech . The final score was   Kilmoyley 4-01 Dr Crokes 1-05.
We had heroes all through the team and into the subs bench and our goal now
is keep the interest and appetite for hurling alive and well in this enthuastic group.
Well done to all concerned.

Team :- J L Ivory (Capt), G White, C McSharry, A Murphy, D O'Brien, M Burns, M O Buckley, L Byrnes, J Lenihan ,M O'Shea, C Doncel, S Hurley, B Courtney ,C O'Donoghue, F O'Donoghue, O O'Connor, M Casey, T Brosnan, L McCarthy, M Hartnett, D Hartnett, N O'Connor.

U. 11 East Kerry: on Tuesday June 19th we traveled to Firies, unfortunately due to other commitments(holidays etc.) we were short quite a number of players. We started brightly and led at the break by 5points. In the second half we came under intense pressure and being under strength mad the job more difficult. Our opponents piled on the pressure and reduced the deficit to 3 points before we broke away and scored a vital goal and ended up winning by 4 points.

We were in action again the following evening at home to Kenmare, in atrocious weather conditions we stormed to a convincing win and thus clinching a place in the final yet to be arranged. This was just reward for this hard working team. Congratulations to the squad and mentors.

U. 12 Co. League: on Sun. last we welcomed Kerins O’Rahillys for our fourth league game, we started tentatively and again being short 5 regulars we had to work extra hard. We were 5 points in arrears at the break and never upped the tempo eventually losing on 4-10 to 4-05 score line. We have one game remaining against our local rivals fixed for Sat. June 30th.

Lotto: the jackpot on Sun. June 24th of €4,500 was won by well known Dr. Crokes member Ms. Margaret O’Leary 33 Main Street. Co. League: Dr. Crokes 0-13  Rathmore 3-09. missing seven of the starting 15 from the Co. Championship the previous weekend we lost to Rathmore on Sat. last in this back game of Div. 1 Co. league. Good to see James Cahillane back in action. The next number of league games are vital if we are to avoid regulation.

Coiste na Og: Dr Crokes under 12 hurlers will play in the County League
Final against Kilmoyley  at Austin Stack Park , Tralee on next Friday
June 22nd at 7.30pm.
We urge all parents and supporters to come out and encourage the team on Friday evening.

U10`s: Our U10`s traveled to Dromtariffe on Sat. last for the final stages of the Brian Cronin Memorial Tournament. Having a much depleted panel from the qualifying stages we emerged victorious. Congratulations to all concerned. This tournament is played in the memory of the late Brian Cronin who was a nephew of club stalwarts and former club Chairman’s Donie & Mike O’Leary.

U11`s: On Wed. 13th we lost to Fossa in a very close game. We have two teams in this competition and over 40 kids are getting regular games.

U12`s; On Mon. June 11th our B team played a thrilling draw with Spa in the Co. league. This was a game that we could have won with all the panel performing well. Our A team played a re-arranged fixture with Austin Stacks on Friday night, this was a game where we never left the starting blocks and never really recovered from early lapses in concentration. We were in action again on Sun. 17th against Glenflesk and we were eager to make amends for the previous 2 games. We started well and led by 1-02 to 0-02 in the early stages. Glenflesk fought back and at half time led by 5points. In the second half we began to play what was probably our best football of the season and took some marvelous scores to inch ahead. Our opponents equalized with a last minute free. A draw being a fair result.

Congratulations: to Rheanne O`Shea and Karena O’Leary who were on the Kerry Ladies U14 panel that defeated Cork in the Munster Final on Sun. last.

13/06/07

Co. Championship: Dr. Crokes 1-16 Legion 0-09. we reached the q/final of the Senior championship with a convincing win over our neighbors on Sun. last. In what was a poor game the early exchanges were keenly contested.

Brian Looney who would go on to have a magnificent game with a tally of 5 points from play opened the scoring in the 4th minute quickly followed with another from Mike Grady. Our opponents quickly equalized with 2 points and at this stage it looked as if we were in for a tough battle, we gradually began to assert control in all areas and when David Moloney finished a long Eoin Brosnan delivery to the net it gave us the platform to drive on and we led at the break 1-07 to 0-04. on the resumption our opponents started the brighter and narrowed the gap with 2 quick points, we replied with further scores from Cooper, Looney, O’Leary to push us further ahead.

With the result now a foregone conclusion management had the luxury in introducing Kerry Minors Johnny Buckley and Jamie Doolan and they served notice for inclusion in the starting 15 for future games. Team: Kieran Cremin, Gavin tucker, Michael Moloney, John Payne, Batt Moriarty, Luke Quinn, Bryan McMahon, Eoin Brosnan© Ambrose O’Donovan, James Fleming, Kieran O’Leary, Brian Looney, Colm cooper, David Moloney, Mike O`Grady, Subs: Johnny Buckley, Jamie Doolan.

Coiste Na Og: Our U 11  team 2 were beaten by our close neighbours Legion on a score line of 1-12 to 4-8 on Wednesday night. Considering we were playing against their first team we performed very well.

The game was nip and tuck all the way in which both teams defended and scored very well. Our young team tired some what towards the end of the first half letting the Legion in for some vital scores of which we could not bring back. The team kept fighting on till the very end and they never gave up the battle when others would have thrown in the towel.

A great team performance from all  22 players on the night. Well done.

U.10`s The U 10 team traveled to Dromtarrif for the Brian Cronin Memorial Tournament over the week-end and came away winning all their 3 group games well. They now qualify for the finals next week-end. We had a panel of 22 players and they all played their part in playing some wonderful football.

Also a big thank you to all at Dromtarrif for what is a very professional and
well organised tournament. Best of luck to all the lads in the finals.

U14: Congratulations to the seven Dr. Crokes players, Michael Beckett, Mark Egan, Anthony Cronin, Chris Lawlor, Bryan O`Shea, Derek Maye, Ryan Patten who are on the East Kerry Team that have reached the Co. s/final.

U.12 hurling: Our under 12 hurlers travelled to Killorglin on June 8th for the semi final of the county league against Laune Rangers. We had gained a narrow victory over the same opposition a few weeks ago and knew that a tough battle  awaited us .
Our lads were well primed and ready for it all. We got off to a flyer with
Caolan O'Donoghue finding to the net with his first touch. He was a star in his new attacking role and was well supported by Mark O'Shea, Sean Hurley and Fergal O'Donoghue. Our midfield pairing of Laurence Byrnes
and young Jack Lenihan were in control and by half time the score was  3-03  to 0 - 00 . Laurence Byrnes had got the three points, one of thema beauty from a line ball and Mark O'Shea and Caolan O'Donoghue (2) had got the goals.
Our defense had also given a good account of themselves in the first half
and  keeping a clean sheet was down to a great team effort which was led by Micheal Burns, Conor McSherry and Aaron Murphy.
In the second half  the expected backlash materialised and after some fierce
pressure Laune Rangers were rewarded with  two goals and a point. The game was now in the melting pot and inspired by some good goalkeeping by John  L Ivory, defensive work by Gavin White, Michael Owen Buckley  and Micheal Burns we drove forward again and Caolan O'Donoghue secured his hat-trick with a valuable goal and he also added a point. In the frantic last  five minutes we conceded another goal but it was to be our night and all the hard work paid off handsomely. Laune Rangers did get a final consolation goal at the end to leave the final score  4-04 to 4-01 but in the end  we had stars all over the pitch and in our subs and we now look forward to a final against Kilmoyley. Well done .
The Panel :-  A Murphy, S Hurley, M O'Shea, L Byrnes,  S Lyne, F O'Donoghue, J Lenihan, M Burns, M O Buckley, L McCarthy, G White, C McSherry, J L Ivory,
(Capt),D O'Brien M Casey, O O'Connor, C Doncel, J Brosnan, C O'Donoghue,
M Hartnett.

A good learning experience.

Our U12 b team got off to a winning start on Sunday night against Listowel with a 5 point winning margin. With most of the possession we found it hard to get the scores in the first 15 minutes but we settled down and worked some great team scores. We went in at half time 1-5 to 0-1 up. The second half we started with 2 quick points to settle us down and enhance our lead to which we never relinquished right to the end. This was the best performance this team
has played all year as they all played with great heart and commitment and never gave up even though Listowel came back into the game towards the end. The defense stood strong with Conor McSharry starring in goal, Jack Lenihan commanding at  centre-back surrounded by Caman Mangan, Mark O`Shea, Gavin White, Creagh Courtney, Kieran Courtney. Midfield worked very hard with Jason O Sullivan and John Kerrisk. Up front the forwards combined
well with lovely passing movements to get some great scores, Chris Doncel keeping up his scoring feats with 1-3 and Adam O Shea kicking 0-4 points and great scores from Jason Farrell, Paul Clarke, David Sheerin and Michael Casey. Well done to everybody

East Kerry U 11, We started our u 11 East Kerry league on Wednesday night against a physically stronger  Rathmore team.  U12 Hurling: Our  third match in the county league was a home  game  against Laune Rangers . This was eagerly awaited by our lads as there had been a steady improvementin recent games  against Kilmoyley  and Abbeydorney . It was a tough game with both defenses on top and scores were very scarce. The hurling was good and crisp  with nice passing movements  and good skills displayed by both sides. At the break Dr Crokes led by a point on the score line of  0-02 to 0-01 with Miceal Burns and  Laurence Byrnes  being our scorers. In the second half  we hit a purple patch and  led by four points at one stage  after Chris Dunce had  scored a cracker of a goal with a lovely ground stroke.
Laune Rangers did  make a comeback and scored  a good goal despite our best
efforts. The score line read  1-04 to 1-01 at this time after Miceal Burns
had added two more points .It remained tense with both defenses  holding tight, however with minutes remaining Laune Rangers eventually got their goal and a draw seemed likely at  1-04 to 2-01. Then  following a long puck out by our keeper, Daniel O'Brien was fouled and Miceal Burns pointed the resultant free  to gain a deserved victory for Dr Crokes on the score of  1-05 to 2-01.
In this game we had heroes in every line and  and also in our subs, however
Laurence Byrnes was  the man of the match at midfield and he was well  supported by  Jack Lenihan.  In defense Aaron Murphy, Conor  McSharry and Michael Owen Buckley were in defiant mood and John Ivory in goals gave a superb and assured display. In the forwards Miceal Burns, Chris Doncel  and Mark O'Shea  tormented their opponents .
