26/07/06 U21 Co. Championship: we received a walk-over from Gaeltacht in this competition, for no other reason but the embargo on clubs that no minor player may participate. All club teams will struggle to field 15 players between the ages of 19 & 21.This is the most ridiculous stipulation ever put on any competition in this county and hopefully the county board will see the folly of their ways and rescind this rule as this competition has already turned into a farce and no doubt will provide ammunition for future Kerry man jokes. Seniors: all activity is currently at a standstill due to Kerry’s involvement in the qualifiers. Hurlers: we received a bye in the Intermediate Championship. Coiste Na Og: U16`s Co. League Dr. Crokes 4-16 Dromid 4-04 played on Sunday evening last we had a very impressive victory in our last group game against Dromid were we had 12 points to spare at the end. Kieran O`Sullivan had his best game of the year scoring 3 points and having a hand in others. Birthday boy Mark O`Donoghue was once again a good target man and finished with a tally of 3-03. we are now in the s/final of this competition. 19/07/06 Co. Junior League: our game versus Rathmore was played in ideal conditions on Friday last. We started very well and with some excellent teamwork we went into a 1-04 to 0-03 lead with the goal coming from Pat Hand. Some excellent link play from Barra O`Connell and Chris Egan yielded great points, despite some staunch defending Rathmore were not without chances and only for a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Andrew O`Connell they would have been much closer at half time. Rathmore were much sharper in the second half and even though we tried valiantly Rathmore scored 2 goals and from then on we were chasing the game and they ran out comfortable winners on a 2-09 to 1-06 score line. Minors: the minor game v Rathmore fixed for Thurs. last did not take place due to the non appearance of the appointed referee. Coiste Na Og: U14 Hurlers County Champions – the Dr Crokes Under 14 hurlers claimed their crown against Austin Stacks in a game that took extra time to decide. It was a game where the defence on both teams dominated for much of the game and scores where hard earned. However, Crokes were first off the mark with free from 30 yards taken by Evan O’Donoghue. He followed this with another from a bit closer in. Ryan O’Carroll was also busy and made space for himself out on the right wing and slotted over a beautiful point. But all this hard work was cancelled when Stacks banged in a goal. Young Laurence Byrnes was in fine form and ably assisted by David Leacy, these lads set up many an attack. Aodhán Burns was busy on the wings and caused a lot of heartache for the opposition when he moved in closer to goal. But this was a game when the backs showed their prowess. Lead by Captain Ciarán O’Donnell, who put on a masterful display of hurling, stopping attack after attack and clearing ball right, left and centre. Ciarán was man of the match in this encounter. Close behind was the ever constant Senan Lavery. Strong as ever, he stood up to everything that was thrown at him and always came out on top. Jonathon Clery had another brilliant game and was always on top of his opponent. Stacks tried three different men on Conor Fitzgerald, but small, tall or middling, Conor handled them all and is by far the most improved player this year. Cian Ó Lionáird, though very young, played with great maturity and put on a fine display of hurling. Scores being level at full-time, the game went into extra time. Crokes made a few judicial positional changes and took over the game. Anthony Keogh went in full forward and switched with Anthony Cronin who now played in mid-field. Both players found this to their liking and upped their game enormously. Ignatius Curtin and Alex Goggin moved into a forward position and caused a lot of problems for the Stacks defence. Cian McDermott, who only took up hurling this year and John Ivory, who is will still be under 12 next year, played their part too and were not found wanting. Both players have great futures in the game. Graham Fleming, in goal, saved his best performance for the final. In one move, late in extra time, when his goal was threatened, he shouldered the attacker off the ball, took command and cleared the ball out to mid field. This typified his performance on the night - gutsy. Another free from Evan O’Donoghue, followed by a tremendous goal by Anthony Keogh and finished off by a second point from Ryan O’Carroll saw the Crokes lads take victory. The game ended 1-5 to 1-1. Foireann: Ciarán O’Donnell (Capt), Graham Fleming, Evan O’Donoghue, Alex Goggin, David Leacy, Cian Mc Dermott, Conor Fitzgerald, Jonathon Clery, Anthony Keogh, Ignatius Curtin, Senan Lavery, Aodhán Burns, Anthony Cronin, John Ivory, Laurence, Byrnes, Cian Ó Lionáird, Ryan O’ Carroll. Dr. Crokes 3-14 Ballymaceilligott 0-05. we got back on winning ways in this the third round of the Co. League. This was our best performance to date in this competition. We controlled midfield with Daithi Casey & Jonathan Clarke dominating proceedings the forwards were blessed with a plentifull supply of ball. We led at the interval 2-09 to 0-02 with our goals coming from Shane O`Neill penalty and Keith O`Leary who finished with a personal tally of 1-05. Mark O`Donoghue playing at full forward adopting the target man role was a great success. The second half continued along the same lines and our third goal came from young Chris Brady. Pick of our defenders were Niall O`Connell, Alex o`Sullivan, Eoin Clifton and Kieran Ward. Team David Neeson, Kieran Ward, Fionn Fitzgerald, Eoin Clifton, Niall O`Connell. David O`Leary, Alex O`Sullivan, Jonathan Clarke (0-03) Daithi Casey (0-2) Kieran O`Sullivan Shane O`Neill (1-0), T.J.Cronin(0-02) Chris Brady 1-0) Mark O`Donoghue (0-01) Keith O`Leary (1-05) P.J.Lawlor, Joseph Keogh Stephen Brosnan(0-01) James Barry. Coiste Na Og: U12 team 1 traveled to Tralee to play Austin Stacks in final round of Co. League. While the team was under strength due to holidays and injuries a fantastic performance insured that we returned with the spoils. Playing against the breeze in the first half we opened the scoring with points from Darren O’Doherty and Jason Brennan goals followed from Will Horan and Tony Brosnan. With all six forwards scoring in the first half we led at the short whistle 2-08 to 1-01. The second half began took a similar pattern with the young Dr. Crokes players dominating in all positions. More goals followed with Will Horan accounting for 3 and 1 from Jason Brennan. Captain for the game Keith Flynn marshaled the defense ably assisted by Michael O’Leary, Dylan Sheehan, and Diarmuid Galvin. Aodan Burns and Gearoid Coughlan controlled midfield while up front man of the match Will Horan with a personal tally of 4-02, along with Jason Brennan, and Michael Sexton stood out. Team 2 were also successful on the night with a fantastic performance also against Austin Stacks. U-14 Our U-14 team traveled to Glenflesk last Friday night for the replay of the East Kerry Championship Rd 1 game. As with the drawn game this was a very close and keenly contested match. Glenflesk had the better of the fist half and led by 3 points at the interval (2-4 to 2-1). Cian O'Neill and Michael Quirke scored the goals. The second half was equally as tight and another draw looked likely. Goals from Conor Magill, Cian O'Neill and Ignatius Curtain proved to be decisive and we won on a score of 5-3 to 2-8. Best on the night were Paul Clifford, Mark Egan, Gordon Buckley, Christopher Brady and Conor Magill. Fixture: East Kerry Quarter Final v Rathmore Friday 14 July at 730.pm at Lewis Road. U16 we were outplayed by Austin Stacks in round 2 of Co. U16 league losing on a 3-13 to 1-07 score line. Played in Connolly Park on Wed. last this was not one of our better performances we failed to leave the starting blocks and trailed at the interval by 2-08 to 0-04. it is to their credit that they continued to battle away to the final whistle. Our best performers on the night were Jonathan Clarke, Niall O’Connell, and young Chris Brady. Girls Football: Congratulations to Rheanne O`Shea who lined out with Kerry u14 team v Galway last weekend, despite contributing two goals to the Kerry total they were well beaten. Congratulations to the 4 girls who were on the Kerry U16 team that defeated Tipperary last week. Danielle O’Brien, Kerrie Beckett, Edel O’Carroll & Fiona Sheehan. Also to Mairead Finnegan and Cassandra Buckley who were on the senior panel that defeated Waterford. U16 girls our first outing of the year gave us a chance to see how we progressed and our game ended in a draw.. we played Currow who were strong and while we had a number of u14 playing we performed well. It ended in a draw 3-10 apiece with Lisa Courtney and Rebecca Galvin scoring the goals. A great effort from all the panel and are looking forward to future games. Congratulations: to the 5 minors, Michael Moloney, Johnny Buckley, Jamie Doolan, Ian Howard, & Alan Kelly along with selector Vince Cooper on Kerry’s victory in the Munster Minor Final. 5/07/06 Senior: Dr. Crokes were very fortunate to get 2 co. league points in their round 6 game against a very committed Listowel Emmetts winning by the minimum margin on a score line of 1-07 to 0-09. a ninth minute goal by Kieran O’Leary who kept his composure helped Dr. Crokes to the better of the earlier exchanges but the trusty left foot of Noel Kenneally from frees kept Emmetts in contention and at the interval Dr. Crokes led 1-04 to 0-04. Listowel took control and dominated around the middle in the second half but were unable to press home their advantage and a treble save from Kieran Cremin kept Dr. Crokes in the game. it was nip and tuck to the end with Listowel missing the chance to equalize in injury time kicking the 21yard free wide. While short a few regulars and a number of others who made a trojan effort to get home in time for the game after traveling overnight from the World Cup in Frankfurt the team will not be happy with their lack lustre display with the forwards the main culprits, the over reliance on the short game their handling and passing normally the best part of their game got them into terrible problems and the continuous playing of the ball into cul de sacs were easily dealt by a tigerish Emmett’s defense. A major improvement is required if they wish to progress further in the championship. Vince Cooper had an outstanding game in a sweeper role in defense ably assisted by James Cahillane and John Payne while James Fleming, Kieran O’Leary and the returning David Moloney were the pick of the forwards. Team: Kieran Cremin, Shane Doolan, Luke Quinn, Keith McMahon, Bryan O’Donoghue, James Cahillane, John Payne, Kieran Brosnan, Batt Moriarty, David Moloney, Andrew Kenneally, James Fleming(capt.) Brian Looney, Vince Cooper, Kieran O’Leary. Sub; Ambrose O’Donovan. Juniors: We had a comfortable victory over Dingle on Friday last in the latest round of the Co. Coiste na Og: U12 Team 1 Dr. Crokes3-06 Kerins O`Rahillys 2-09. in a cracking game played on Sun. night we forced a draw with O`Rahillys when Gavin O`Shea sent a rocket to the roof of the net with the last kick of the game. O`Rahillys led at the interval by 5points but our fellows made a marvelous comeback goals by Niall O`Riordan & Will Horan kept us in contention and like many a Dr. Crokes side these kids proved that they are never beaten and they worked hard to the final whistle. Best for Dr. Crokes were Keith Flynn and Diarmuid Galvin in defense Niall O`Riordan and Gearoid Coughlan at midfield and Gavin O`Shea and Will Horan in the forwards. U14: East Kerry Championship Dr. Crokes 3-03 Glenflesk 1-09. We played an exciting draw with Glenflesk on Mon.night. trailing by a point at the interval 3 second half goals from Robert Watson, Chris Lawlor and Michael Quirke had us leading by 3 point as we entered injury time, but a last gasp goal by Glenflesk saw the game ending in a draw. Under 16's started their county league campaign with a very sluggish 2 11 to 12 points win over a young Beaufort team, played in Beaufort on Wednesday last. Indeed the game was in the balance until the last two minutes when leading by 4 points, Beaufort were awarded a penalty, and it took a brilliant save by David Neeson to keep the hosts at bay with David O Leary getting the insurance point at the death. Beaufort started brightly and led by three points after 10 minutes. Over the next 15 minutes Crokes played their best football and a sweeping move after 20 minutes led to a wonderful goal by Alex O Sullivan. Keith O Leary was also playing very well scoring 3 points, and at the interval Crokes led by 4. However Beaufort came out on the restart in determined mood and reduced the deficit to 1 point, before Mark O Donoghue got a second goal for Crokes when he was on hand to finish to the net when the keeper had kept out a David O Leary shot. On the night Niall O Connell was outstanding, while others to impress were Kieran Ward, Joseph Keogh, Kieran O Sullivan, Keith O Leary and Mark O Donoghue. Team: David Neeson, Joseph Keogh, Eoin Clifton, PJ Lawlor, Kieran Ward, Jonathan Clarke, Kieran O Sullivan, Daithi Casey, David O Leary, Alex O Sullivan, Shane O Neill, Niall O Connell, Keith O Leary, Mark O Donoghue, TJ Cronin. Subs Cian Buckley, Keith Buckley, Sean Coppinger, James Barry. U14 hurlers:

Granddad Eddie Tatler and uncle Harry O’Neill who traveled to Wicklow are very proud of his achievement. U12 Girls: this squad continued on their winning ways when they defeated Scartaglin on Friday last. The result was never in doubt from an early stage as our girls got into a commanding lead which we never relinquished. An excellent performance by everyone U14Girls: Dr. Crokes 2-11 Laune Ranger 3-08 the spoils were divided in the U14 Co. Final played in Farranfore on Wed. last this was a thrilling contest and to use that well worn cliché it was a game of two halves were we dominated the first half with two well taken goals by Blaithin Cronin and Rebecca Galvin. Laune Rangers fought back strongly in the second half and it was nip and tuck to the end. A tremendous effort from all on the panel who showed great courage, skill, and teamwork. Panel; Laura Moloney, Kelly Payne, Emma Cronin, Laura Kelly, Sophie Daly, Karena O’Leary Ciara O`Shea, Edel Cronin, Rheanne O`Shea, Megan Buckley, Blaithin Cronin, Megan Kiely, Rebecca Galvin, Sarah Brosnan, Ellen Buckley, Caoimhe Bonnar, Aisling Harnett, Arianne Kennedy, Lauren O`Sullivan. Caillini Oga; Saturday last was a very proud day for our club, Rheanne O`Shea captained the Kerry Cailini Oga team against Cork, club mates Karena O’Leary and Megan Buckley were also on the team and all three girls were outstanding but success was not to be when they were defeated by the narrowest of margins in controversial circumstances. Rheanne was another link continuing a long tradition, her father Seanie was captain of our All Ireland Club winning side in 1992 and her great grand father Paddy Healy won All Ireland medals in 1913 & 1914. We wish Rheanne every success on Sun. next when Kerry U14 play Galway in All Ireland Q/Finals in Tipperary. Congratulations to Mairead Finnegan and Cassandra Buckley who lined out with the Kerry Senior ladies last weekend.
