30/05/07 Senior Co. League: Dr. Crokes 2-07 Kerins O`Rahilly`s 1-10 we finished level in this entertaining clash last weekend. Played on Saturday last in continuous rain which made handling very difficult we salvaged a point. Our best performers on the night were John Payne, Michael Moloney, Batt Moriarty Brian McMahon in defense, Ambrose O’Donovan at midfield while in the forwards Brian Looney, Kieran O’Leary, and Michael O`Grady stood out. Hurling: At this stage of the year we have the Intermediate Championship and South Kerry Championship to play for as our league campaign is over after the sum total of 3 matches, with the Co Board having split the league into 2 sections due to the reluctance on North Kerry teams to travel South for games. So much for enhancing the game of hurling. That having been said Crokes with a relatively new side performed well even though we lost our 3 matches to Kenmare on the score line of 2 – 12, 0 –13; Kilgarvan 3 – 13, 0 –13 and St Brendan’s 2 – 12 to 1 – 7. The latter game had outstanding performances from Jim Kennedy, Adrian Brennan in goals, Kevin and Gary Landers in defence. With more scoring power up front the result may have been different. The management have not been too disappointed as it was a learning curve for the team with the retirement of John Cagney, Seanie O Shea, Tony Mackey, Earl Tuohy (transferred), along with injuries to key players Brian Darcy, Seanie Morris and Patrick Landers considerably weakening the team. The club welcomes newcomers, David Hannon, Frank Synnott, Michael Roche, Pat Clifford, John Bradley, Mark O Donoghue and the return of Adrian Brennan (our new goalkeeper) and Keith Curtin. The management would like to see a greater effort at training, which continues on Monday and Wednesday night, togged out for 7.30pm sharp. John Lenihan the manager can be contacted at 087 6534444

23/05/07 Minor. Co. League Final: Dr. Crokes 2-07 Kerins O`Rahillys 2-10. On Sunday evening last in the Fitzgerald Stadium we came up short against a strong O`Rahillys side. This is the fourth year in a row that these sides have met at this juncture of the competition and the honors are now split evenly both Clubs having two victories each. This was a game we were always chasing and despite losing the influential Ruairi Mangan to injury in the opening half we were level at the break 1-05 each, our goal coming on the strokes of half time from Daithi Casey following a tremendous run through the Strand Road defense. On the resumption our opponents hit with an early goal following some clumsy defending when we failed to clear our lines and we fell 5 points behind. Another great run by Casey resulted in he expertly tucking it away to the bottom corner brought matters back to a 1 point game but we unable to seize the initiative and our opponents tacked on two points to secure victory. On a night when many of players failed to reach our full potential we were best served by goalkeeper David Neeson who made some superb saves and could not be faulted, defenders Michael McMahon and substitute Eoin Clifton were the pick, at midfield Johnny Buckley tried hard while in the forwards Man of the match Daithi Casey, Philip O’Connor and Jamie Doolan were always dangerous. U12 hurling Our first outing in the county league was an away game
in Kilmoyley against the locals. Unfortunately the weather spoiled
a good game of hurling for both teams and despite some heroic
efforts and a never say die attitude we lost by a few goals. U12 A Dr. Crokes 2-11 Kerins O`Rahillys 1-09. We hosted K. O`Rahillys on Thurs. last. We started this game very well playing some lovely football. The defense were tight and the forwards looked menacing. After playing against the wind in the opening half the score at the break was 1-08 a piece. On the restart we came under pressure from strong and repeated Strand road attacks but we soaked it up and countered very well with all six forwards contributing with scores. The defense, midfielders, and goalkeeper in superb form we ended with a great result for a hard working team performance. Within 4 days we were in action again this time away to Rathmore, on this occasion we started poorly and our defense was under a lot of pressure. Gradually we began to influence proceedings and at the half way break we led by 3 points. On the resumption we conceded an early goal but we replied with 3 good points from play and ended up winning on a score line of 5-06 to 3-07. This completes our Div. 1Co. games for the present training continues each Saturday 12.15pm. We would like to send a get well to Daniel Healy who presently is unavailable with a foot injury. U 12 B team had a great win over Kerins O Rahillys on Thursday night on score line of 4-13 to 4-5.This was a great team performance from everybody involved. We were again slow out of the blocks at the start with Rahilly's piling on the pressure but our backs defended with great composure and we were only 1 point behind at half time. Some great scores were taken by Michael Casey, David Sheerin and John Kerrisk to keep us in touch. The second half we put great pressure on Rahillys and created great scores with Jason Farrell scoring 2 super goals to edge us ahead and further points from Jason o Sullivan we pulled away with a 8 point victory. Great performances on the night were from Kieran Courtney, Mark `O`Shea, Dylan O`Sullivan, Jack Lenihan, David Sheerin U.11. East Kerry U11 competition begins this Wed. night. A number of fabulous individual displays from, in particular, Gordon Buckley and Joe Keogh in the backline from Timmy O' Donoghue and Eoin Clifton in the middle of the field and from Chris Brady in the forwards. All subs got a run and many contributed to the final score line. We await the outcome of the matches on the other side of the draw to see who emerges as our opponents in the final. 16/05/07 Senior Co. Championship: Dr. Crokes 0-16 Dingle 0-07. we started our 2007 senior championship campaign with a win over Dingle on Sun. played in the Fitzgerald Stadium in bitterly cold conditions it was a lack luster affair with the result never in doubt. Mike Grady opened the scoring in the first minute with a well taken point, Dingle equalized in the 3rd minute with a free, David Moloney put Dr. Crokes ahead in the 7th minute and they never looked back. Ambrose O’Donovan & Eoin Brosnan began to dominate midfield proceedings and were giving an amble supply of ball to the forwards but over elaboration at times meant this supply was going to waste it took the intervention of the half-back Batt Moriarty after driving run through the Dingle defense to extend the lead with marvelous score. Kieran O’Leary who subsequently had to retire was beginning to come more into the game and kicked a delightful point in the 15th minute. Centre-back Luke Quinn after another searching run stretched the lead in the 22nd minute and Colm Cooper closed our first half scoring with a pointed free in the 29th. Dingle only other score in the opening half came in the 29th minute leaving proceedings at the break Dr. Crokes 0-06 Dingle 0-02. following the dismissal of Keith McMahon management had to re-jig the lineout for the second half and introduced Gavin Tucker for his championship debut. In the opening period of the second half we stretched our lead to 7points 0-10 to 0-03. and the game was virtually over as a contest despite a spirited Dingle fight back which yielded 3 unanswered points Dr. Crokes again took control and kicked six points without reply, the final Dingle score was deep in injury time to leave us with a nine point winning margin. The new management will be pleased with the win that gets them off to what hopefully will be a successful campaign but they will be aware that a huge improvement is required. Team: Kieran Cremin, Keith McMahon, Michael Moloney, John Payne, Batt Moriarty, Luke Quinn, Brian McMahon, Ambrose O`Donovan, Eoin Brosnan©, James Fleming, Kieran O’Leary, Brian Looney, Com Cooper, David Moloney, Mike O`Grady. Subs; Johnny Buckley, Gavin Tucker, Jamie Doolan. Minor Co. League Div. 1 s/final; Dr. Crokes 4-14 Austin Stacks 1-05. on Mon. night last we qualified for our 4th Minor Co. League final in a row with an overwhelming win over Stacks. After getting off to the worst possible start conceding a goal in the opening attack we were level in the 6th minute with points from Daithi Casey, Jamie Doolan, & Johnny Buckley, Doolan put us ahead with a further point and the same player added a further 2-01along with points from Buckley and Philip O’Connor before the break to leave the half time score 2-08 to 1-02. the second half began with Crokes stretching further ahead with points form Doolan & O’Connor and in the 8th minute T. J. Cronin found the net after a good interchange with Doolan. Buckley who was dominating the exchanges at midfield continued to give a wonderful display of point kicking off both hands and off the ground and finished a another great move to the net in the 25th minute. This was a tremendous display of football by Dr. Crokes with quick movement of ball into the forward line. The backs as a unit were tremendous and gave very little away, midfield exchanges were dominated by Buckley ably assisted by J. Bartlett while in the forwards expertly led by Doolan all had the beating of their individual opponents. Team: David Neeson, Michael McMahon, Fionn Fitzgerald, Donal Cronin, David O’Leary, Timmy Dudley, Johnny Buckley, John Bartlett, Niall O’Connell, Ruairi Mangan, Daithi Casey, T.J.Cronin, Philip O’Connor, Jamie Doolan. Subs: Shane O’Neill, Eoin Clifton, Pat Fuller, P. J. Lawlor. Junior Football: it is the time of the year when there is a plethora of football for junior players. On Mon. May 7th. we traveled to Tralee for the opening fixture v Strand Road in the Co. Junior league. Both teams will feel they left a win behind them having dominated at various stages. Dr. Crokes playing with the aid of a strong wind got off to the worst possible start conceding a goal in the first few minutes. After ten minutes we reached parity with points from Nicholas Murphy, Michael O’Donoghue and Shane Horgan. A few missed opportunities from frees did not help our cause, further points from Denis Galvin and James Jones left us leading at the break 0-05 to 1-01. As with the first half a quick goal from Strand Road swung the game in their favor and they continued with two further minors. A great Denis Galvin goal re-awoke the Crokes challenge and we followed with a Nicholas Murphy point. James Jones after a penetrating run from midfield was dragged down in the square and the resultant penalty was expertly converted by Nicholas Murphy. Strand Road seized the initiative with a couple of quick points. Shane Horgan gave us the minimum lead with time almost up but Strand Road leveled matters at the end with a pointed free. Panel : Alan Kelly Kevin Landers, Mike Cooper, Alan Brady, Dave Looney, Shane Kavanagh, James Jones, Andrew O Connell, Philip O Connor, Brian Clarke, Mike O Donoghue, Nick Murphy, Denis Galvin, Shane Horgan, James Cahillane , Pat Hand, Timmy Hourigan, On Tues. May 8th we concluded the group stages of the EKJL with a well merited 1-12 to 0-04 win over Spa and in the process qualified for the knock-out stages. Fielding a much changed side from the previous evening we were fast out of the blocks and lead after 15minutes 1-04 to 0-01. Denis Galvin again finding the net with a well taken goal in the ninth minute. Spa began to come more into the game and had 3 unanswered points to leave the half time score 1-05 to 0-04. the second half was all Dr. Crokes and we kicked some good scores. Young David Neeson was very solid in goal with the Kevin’s Landers & Smyth dominating the central positions ably assisted by Diarmuid O’Donovan. James Jones was always in top at midfield while in the forward line expertly lead by Mike Cooper David Looney was a revelation and finished with a tally of 5 points getting good support from Michael O’Donoghue, Denis Galvin, and Philip O’Connor. Team: David Neeson, Tim Hourigan, Kevin Landers, Aaron Fahy, Diarmuid O’Donovan, Kevin Smyth, Tommy Brosnan, James Jones, Alan Brady, David Looney, Michael O’Donoghue, Denis Galvin, Pat Hand, Mike Cooper, Philip O’Connor. Subs; Michael McMahon, Daithi Casey, Ruairi Mangan. Co. Senior Hurling League: Dr. Crokes played their second round Division 2 league game at home to Kilgarvan on Wednesday night. After a close opening encounter Kilgarvan eventually ran out easy winners on a score line of 3-13 to 0-12. Kilgarvan started well and went in to an early three-point lead before Crokes came back into the game with good scores by John Bergin and Jim Kennedy. The halftime score was 0-08 to 0-05 in favour of Kilgarvan. Dr. Crokes started the better in the second half and closed the deficit to one point. However, Crokes never really recovered from an easy Kilgarvan goal mid way through the second half. The Crokes defence played well, in particular Gary Landers and Cian O’Toole while in the forwards John Bergin and Jim Kennedy did well. Crokes next game will be away to Ardfert next week. Coiste Na Og: U12 Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 5-08 Listowel Emmetts 4-07. on Wed. may 9th we played Listowel away. Playing against a strong wind in the opening period our defense was under pressure in the first half and we trailed by a goal at the half way stage. Listowel dominated the opening period of the second half and extended their lead to 8 points. Dr. Crokes upped the tempo and a tremendous commitment by our defenders paved the way for our midfielders and forwards to take control and haul us back into contention. With 4 minutes remaining we took the lead that we were not going to relinquish and ran out winners by 4 points. This was a just reward for the lads who have trained hard and they will improve considerably from this win. Panel: D. Healy, J. O’Leary, G. Murphy, C. Murphy, M. Burns, C. Regan, N. Ashe, L. The U12 B team
traveled to a windswept and cold Listowel on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately we were beaten by a more physically stronger Listowel
outfit on the night. However our gallant team were very unlucky in
the end in which a couple of near misses and some wayward decisions
cost us. It was a great team performance from this young team. We
were 1-2 to 0-3 ahead at half-time with a goal from Chris Doncel and
points from Gavin White and Michael Casey. A goal and a point from

The result does not tell the true story of the game as our opponents were much better than the final score suggests and actually started the much brighter leading by 1-01 to 0-00 after 4 minutes. Denis Galvin opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a well taken goal followed quickly with points from Jamie Doolan, Michael O`Grady, and Ian Howard to give us the lead after 11 minutes we never looked back and left us leading at the break 1-11 to 1-02. The defense was well on top through the game with some excellent performances, and The Currow forwards found it tough to get easy scores. The half-time score was Crokes 2-06 Currow 0-4. The game ended as a contest when we got another goal early and we went on to record some well taken points, Currow didn’t give up and got rewards for their efforts with a well taken penalty, and then some nice points. This was a good solid performance from the Crokes and should provide the platform to build consistency and enable us to improve our overall play.
