28/11/07 O’Donoghue Cup: Dr. Crokes 2-13 Rathmore 0-05. we won our 23rd O’Donoghue Cup on Sat. last in the Fitzgerald Stadium with an emphatic victory over Rathmore. In a game which never reached the pre match hype we were far superior than our opponents in all facets of play. We opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a pointed free from James Fleming. Rathmore equalized in the 10th with Jerry Murphy point. Score were at a premium in the opening 10 minutes were the emphasis was on the physical exchanges and some of the tackles were borderline. Fleming stretched our lead with a point in the 11th minute, Johnny Buckley with a wonderful long range effort in the 17th minute put us further in front. The introduction of Ambrose O’Donovan added some steel and we began to get the upper hand in all areas of the pitch. Rathmore to their credit were still carrying the game to us but some dreadful shooting from good positions left them with an uphill fight. Further minors by Colm Cooper(2), Shane Doolan and Johnny Buckley left us leading at the short whistle 0-07 to 0-01. On the resumption Rathmore were first to score with a O`Riordan point but when will of the wisp corner forward Jamie Doolan careered through our opponents defense in the 6th minute and expertly finished to the corner of the net the game after been put in possession by Brian Looney the game was over as a contest. With Eoin Brosnan and Ambrose O’Donovan controlling midfield and the puppet master Gooch spraying possession to well focused forward line we could be accused at times of taking the wrong options and maybe over elaboration. Further points by Cooper(4) O’Donovan, Gavin Tucker and a goal by captain Eoin Brosnan completed the scoring. In what was a tremendous team performance in which all were heroes it was a wonderful victory in what was arguably the youngest team ever to win this prestigious competition. Credit to manager John Galvin and selectors who did a tremendous job. Team: Kieran Cremin, Keith McMahon, Michael Moloney, John Payne, Luke Quinn, Gavin Tucker(0-01) Eoin Brosnan (Capt.)(1-00), Johnny Buckley (0-02), Brian Looney, Colm Cooper (0-06), Shane Doolan (0-01), Kieran O’Leary, James Fleming (0-02), Jamie Doolan (1-00). 21/11/07 O`Sullivan Cup Final: Dr. Crokes 0-10 Cordal 1-10. we came up short in this game played at Fitzgerald Stadium on Sat. Nov. 17th. in monsoon conditions. The physically stronger Cordal side adapted better to the elements. We opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a 45 from Daithi Casey, Jamie Doolan stretched it in the 4th minute. Our opponents gradually took control and dominated proceedings and only for the accuracy of Doolan who was surviving on crumbs kept us within striking distance. We went in at the break trailing 1-06 to 0-05. on the resumption Cordal stretched their lead in the opening minutes with 2 points to leave us trailing by six. It is to our credit that we did not relinquish and we managed to reduce the deficit mainly due to the work rate of Ian Howard & Daithi Casey but in a forward line that was non functional with the exception of Jamie Doolan who finished with a personal tally of 7 points it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Team: David Neeson, Kevin Landers, Bryan O’Donoghue, David O’Leary, Kevin Smyth, Ian Howard, Tommy Ryan, John O`Sullivan(0-01), James Jones, Daithi Casey(0-01), Brian Clarke, Jamie Doolan(0-07), Tommy Brosnan, Ruairi Mangan, David Looney. While the final score in this game would give the impression that this was a one side encounter it was anything but in the opening half. Our opponents dominated for large periods but were not able to finish kicking 8 wides from good positions. In this period they had the lions share of possession but only had the paltry return of 3 pointed frees to show for their efforts. We opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a Shane Doolan point in the 4th minute. It took us another 8 minutes to register another score despite having numerous chances Ruairi Mangan kicking a fine point. Our opponents opened their account in the 13th minute with a pointed free 2 quick points from Brian Looney and Kieran O’Leary stretched our lead. Beaufort stayed in touch with another pointed free in the 18th minute further points from Johnny Buckley and Shane Doolan sandwiched by another pointed Beaufort free stretched our lead. We had a goal disallowed in the 27th minute finished by Ruairi Mangan for an alleged square infringement to leave the half time score 0-06 to 0-03. Whatever was said at half time and the introduction of Ian Howard around the middle seemed to have the desired effect. Brian Looney stretched our lead with a point in the fourth minute. 2 moment of magic by will of the wisp Jamie Doolan in the 6th and 8th minute finished the game as a contest to leave the score at this juncture 2-07 to 0-03. we dominating in all areas and further points from Jamie, Ruairi, Looney, Luke Quinn, Buckley and Shane Doolan we ran out comfortable winners. Team: Alan Kelly, Fionn Fitzgerald, Luke Quinn, John Payne, David O’Leary, Michael Moloney, Gavin tucker, Johnny Buckley, Johnny O`Sullivan, Brian Looney, Kieran O’Leary, Shane Doolan, Daithi Casey, Ruairi Mangan, Jamie Doolan, Subs; Barra O’Connell, Tommy Ryan, Denis Galvin, John Bartlett. Co. League Div. 1 Gneevegulia 0-11 Dr. Crokes 1-08. We completed our Co. League fixture with an away game to Gneevegulia on Sunday morning last. Fielding a much under strength side and many of the players having their second game within 24 hours we foiled the spoils of victory with a late equalizer by our opponents. Ladies: The 2007 season for the Dr.Crokes girls came to an end on Sunday last with a defeat in the County Under 16 Division 2 final against Kenmare. The girls took to the field missing some of their players through injury. Although the we opened the scoring with a point in the first few minutes. Kenmare came back strong and after a shuffle in front of the goals where awarded a pently.Although goalkeeper Laura Maloney playing through injury made a valiant effort the ball was placed out of her reach . The full back line made up of Michelle Brosnan Kerrie Beckett and Kelly Payne where outstanding keeping the Kenmare girls to just 3 scores in the first half. Karena O'Leary was solid in the half line. Although the Crokes girls seem to have most of the play we just could not seem to turn possession into scores. Rheanne O'Shea, Megan Buckley and Clodagh Shannon in the half-forward line helped by Edel Cronin and Blaithin Cronin in mid-field kept the Kenmare backs busy. At the start of
the second half to girls tried hard with a points from Megan Kiely
and Rebecca Galvin who both where giving it all. But Kenmare got a
second goal. But the girls did not give up with Erica McCarthy and
Eloise Mangan covering well and Aine Buckley doing well in the
forward line. But on the day Kenmare came away the winners on a
score line o f2 .05 to 0-0 3. The score does not by any means
reflect on how well the girls played. This is a young team with
only 5 overage next year. Team Laura Maloney Michelle Brosnan
(Capt) Kerrie Beckett, Kelly Payne, Eric McCarthy, Elousie Mangan,
Karenna O'Leary, Edel Cronin, Blaithin Cronin, Rheanne O'Shea,

07/11/07 O’Donoghue Cup Dr. Crokes 2-12 Scartaglin 1-09. to say we got a fright in this O’Donoghue s/final would be an understatement. We were in fact completely outplayed in the first half and went in at the interval 1-07 to 0-04 in arrears. We did improve in the second half and scored 2-08 to our opponents 0-02 for a six point victory. The teams exchanged points 3 times in the opening 20 minutes. The next five minutes were dominated by Scart who sent over 4 unanswered points. We had a point in the 26th minute but a goal from our opponents on the stroke of half time gave them a six point lead at the break. The introduction of Jamie Doolan at half time gave us greater options in attack as straightaway he was seen to show for the ball and take on the opposition. We were well on top in the 3rd quarter and scored 1-03 without reply to gain equality. Our opponents were far from finished and went a point in front in the 50th minute. We hit back with 3 frees in the next 5 minutes one a super effort from the sideline from Colm Cooper. Scartaglin narrowed the gap to the minimum a minute later but we finished the better scoring 1-02 in the final few minutes the goal from the boot of the Gooch who finished with a total of 1-07. We were best served in defense by Andrew O’Connell, Gavin Tucker, & Michael Moloney, Eoin Brosnan had a very good second half at midfield while in attack Colm Cooper, the Doolan brothers Shane & Jamie were best. Team: Andrew O`Connell, John Payne, Luke Quinn, Michael Moloney, Batt Moriarty, Brian McMahon, Gavin tucker, Eoin Brosnan(Capt.) Ambrose O’Donovan, Brian Looney, Colm Cooper(1-07), Shane Doolan (0-02) Kieran O’Leary (1-00), James Fleming, Johnny Buckley (0-01) Subs; Jamie Doolan(0-02) Keith McMahon. Coiste na Og: The Under 6’s, 8’s and 10’s had their final day out this year on Saturday last with blitzes being played at Under 8 and Under 10. There were 4 teams in each blitz, with senior and minor players helping out in the coaching. It was very noticeable that there has been great progress being made by the young lads with the standard of play very high and some very close games. The girls also played a game and these have also made great progress. After the games medals were presented by Juvenile Chairman Seamus O Doherty and it was great to see so many parents in attendance offering encouragement to the children. Many took the opportunity to have photographs taken with Colm Cooper 4 All Star awards. Our thanks to David Rea, Killarney Trophy Centre, who generously sponsored the medals for all the age groups.
