25/10/06 Co. Championship S/Final: Dr. Crokes 3-08 Mid Kerry 1-09, at Austin Stack Park on Sunday last we qualified for the 2006 Co. Championship final with a workman like performance over a gallant Mid Kerry side. Played on heavy underground conditions this game never reached its potential heights but it is safe to say without fear of contradiction the games first goal by Colm Cooper was worth the admission fee alone. In his career Colm has scored many a great goal for both club and county and this one would have to rate with the best. With the sides level at 3points apiece at the end of the first quarter Gooch fielded a long delivery with one hand and although closely marshaled by a number of defenders he sent a rocket to the net while falling to the ground. In the 22nd minute following good approach work by Andrew Kenneally & Brian Looney Gooch was upended in the square and coolly struck the resultant penalty to the net giving us a six point lead 2-03 to 0-03. it is to Mid Kerry credit that they never gave up and by the 28th minute they had narrowed the gap to the bare minimum following a defensive error. Captain James Fleming increased the lead to two in the 29th minute and then came the decisive score in a trademark run Eoin Brosnan carved opened the Mid Kerry defense and blasted to the net on the stroke of half time. Playing against a stiff breeze in the second half the emphasis was on stifling the opposition of any worthwhile possession and hoping to punish them on the break. 3 points from Colm and one from Kieran Brosnan was enough for us to book our passage to the final. This was a good team performance with goalkeeper Kieran Cremin getting a hand to two goal bound shots, our defense as a unit performed admirably snuffing out the twin threat of the O`Sullivan`s Sean & Darren, at midfield Ambrose O’Donovan battled for the hour ably assisted by Kieran Brosnan while in the forwards Eoin Brosnan who covered acres of ground and Colm Cooper always posed a threat ably assisted by the hard working Brian Looney and James Fleming. Team: Kieran Cremin, Shane Doolan(0-01), Brian Mac Mahon, Keith Mac Mahon, Batt Moriarty, Luke Quinn, Michael Moloney, Ambrose O’Donovan(0-01) Kieran Brosnan(0-01) Brian Looney, Andrew Kenneally, James Fleming(0-02) Kieran O’Leary, Eoin Brosnan(1-00), Colm Cooper (2-03). Subs; Eanna Kavanagh, Vince Cooper. Munster Club Championship: as a result of a rule change earlier in the year by Kerry Co. Board we have now qualified for the Munster Club championship by virtue of the fact that we are the last club standing in the co. championship. 18/10/06 O`Donoghue Cup q/final. We had an overwhelming victory over neighbors Spa in Sat. last q/final of the O’Donoghue Cup. This game was over as a contest long before the final whistle. We went in at the break leading 4-05 to 0-00.Leading 3points to nil after the first quarter our first goal came when Kieran Brosnan fielded in the middle of the field and fed Ambrose O`Donovan who was allowed the freedom of the pitch by the Spa defense to run forty yards and leave the goalkeeper helpless from close range. Spa enjoyed plenty of possession but rarely threatened in the final third. In the five minutes before the break this game took on a different complection when we had we scored three quick goals. Andrew Kenneally was upended in the square and Colm Cooper converted the penalty, then Gooch palmed a high ball into the path of Brian Looney who found the back of the net with a deft flick. Colm himself got the third on the stroke of half time. On the resumption we took up from where we left off and points from Brian Looney and Kieran Brosnan and a goal from Andrew Kenneally after a magnificent passing movement in the fifth minute put paid to any slim chance that our opponents may have had. We continued to tap over points with consummate ease before Spa registered their first score in the 48th minute. The game labored away in the final minutes with many of the crowd long gone for home and at final whistle we had qualified for the s/final on a score line of 5-15 to 1-03. while it was a clinical victory one will have to reserve judgment as our opponents failed to turn up on the day. Team: Kieran Cremin, Shane Doolan, Luke Quinn, Keith McMahon, Batt Moriarty, Brian Mcmahon(0-01), Michael Moloney, Ambrose o`Donovan(1-00), Kieran Brosnan (0-01), Brian Looney (1-04), Andrew Kenneally (1-00), James Fleming (0-02), Colm Cooper (2- 04), eoin Brosnan, Kieran O`Leary (0-02), subs; Eanna Kavanagh, Nicholas Murphy,(0-01), vince Cooper, John Payne, Edmund O`Sullivan. Co. Championship s/final; On Sun. next at Austin Stacks Park we play Mid Kerry @ 3.30p.m. Management and players alike are looking forward to a large support against very difficult opponents. Wishing the lads every success. U15;We were well beaten by a stronger Rathmore side on home soil in the East Kerry U15 s/final. Having started slowly we found ourselves 2-04 to 0-02 down at the break. The second half was a much more even affair before losing out on a score line od 2-09 to 0-04. missing 3 forwards to injury were a huge loss to the side. Kieran Ward and P.J..Lawlor were outstanding in defense. Owen Clifton gave a man of the match performance at midfield assisted by Alex O`Sulllivan, while up front Cian Buckley and Conor McGill were best of the forwards. Lotto: The Jackpot of €7,800 on Sun. 11/10/06 Minor Co. Championship: Dr. Crokes 1-08 East Kerry 0-08. We reached our 2nd co. minor final in a row with a victory over divisional neighbours East Kerry on Sat. last. Played in Killorglin this was a tough game played in a sporting manner by two highly committed teams, it was our ability to take our opportunities from limited possession which was the difference between the sides. This is a exceptionally young Dr. Crokes side with ten of the starting 15 eligible next year but they did not allow this handicap to be of any disadvantage. It was a victory for team spirit, hard work ethic, and overall commitment to the task in hand which proved to be the blueprint of success. Goalkeeper Alan Kelly dealt comfortably with every eventuality, our defense capably marshaled by Captain Michael Moloney and ably assisted by David O’Leary and the outstanding Fionn Fitzgerald who in those final pulsating minutes stood as firm as ancient oaks against numerous East Kerry attacks and were the foundation stone of victory, at midfield Johnny Buckley roamed far and wide covering, blocking, tracking and kicking 3 points from play was superb and partner Ian Howard had his moments while in the forwards who were playing second fiddle in the possession stakes Jamie Doolan always posed a threat, Daithi Casey, Ruairi Mangan Gavin Tucker, and goal scorer T.J. Cronin made valuable contributions. Team: Alan Kelly, John Bartlett, Jonathan Clarke, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O’Leary, Michael Moloney©, Barra O’Connell, Johnny Buckley(0-03), Ian Howard, Daithi Casey, Gavin Tucker(0-01), T.J.Cronin91-00), Shane O’Neill, Ruairi Mangan(0-01),Jamie Doolan(0-03). Sub: Denis Galvin. Munster Senior League: Fielding a side that bore no resemblance to the team who beat Milltown/Castlemaine the previous weekend we were defeated by Fr. Caseys on a score line of 10pts. to 7pts. on Sun. last. Ladies Football:Congratulations and well done to our senior girls that played a huge part in the successful St. Pats team that completed a historic 3 in a row senior ladies county Championship titles on Sunday 8th Oct. St. Pats beat Abbeydorney/Ballduff in a well contested game by a score of St. Pats 3-15 Abbeydorney 4-07.The girls gave an emphatic display of open, skillful football that would do any team in any division of football proud. The girls who contributed in defense and on the scoreboard were, Katie Gleeson, Cassandra Buckley,Mairead Finnegan, Amanda Brosnan,Joanne Spillane. Special mention to Katie Gleeson who flew home especially for the game and who hadn't time to watch the cup being presented as she had to catch a return flight to Scotland from Cork that evening, such dedication is unsurpassed in amateur sport but that’s the committment you get from such a talented player. Her colleagues on the Ladies squad and fellow club members wish Katie the very best of luck with her career in Scotland and hope to see her togged out for us in the new year." 4/10/06 Senior Co. Championship: We overcame the challenge of Milltown/Castlemaine on Sun. last in the q/final of the championship. This was a tough uncompromising game where no quarters were asked or received. Our opponents where quickly out of the blocks and took a 5point lead in the early stages leading 1-02 to 0-00. this was the wake call we needed and we gradually began to assert ourselves in many positions. Points from Colm Cooper (2), Brian Looney, Kieran O’Leary, and a well taken goal from O’Leary gave us the advantage we never surrendered. A trademark rocket from Eoin Brosnan sealed the issue. It is to our opponents credit that they never relinquished and continued to fight to the final whistle which came in the 37th. minute of the second half. It beggars believe where any official would find 7mins. of added time.
