31/10/07 Co. League Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 3-12 Dingle 0-09.In the Div. 1 game played in Lewis Road Dr. Crokes easily overcame the challenge of Dingle in their penultimate Co. League game and in the process secured Div. 1 status for next season. The game which began in heavy rain conditions which made ball handling and footing very difficult was slow to come to live. Dr. Crokes opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a James Fleming point, Dingle replied in the 7th minute with a point from A. O’Neill, at this stage Crokes began to dominate midfield exchanges with Ambrose O’Donovan and Eoin Brosnan winning the lions share of possession and in the 9th minute wing forward Shane Doolan finished to the net when put in possession by his brother Jamie who was causing the Dingle defense great difficulty. Fleming for Crokes and Mark Evans for Dingle exchanged points and then came the defining moment of the game when Kieran Cremin saved expertly from Michael Geaney who had slipped inside the Crokes cover. A pointed free from Colm Cooper and an Eoin Brosnan goal after being put in possession by Shane Doolan stretched Crokes advantage further points from Fleming and Kieran O’Leary and another goal from Eoin Brosnan left the half time score 3-05 to 0-02. In the second half D. Devane for Dingle and Shane Doolan exchanged points Dingle added further minors from Daithi Geaney and P. Geaney and in the 13th minute Dingle keeper Diarmuid Murphy save a point blank shot from Jamie Doolan O’Leary picked up the rebound and tapped over a point. Further points from substitute Michael O`Grady(2) and Fleming stretched Crokes lead as we entered the final 10 minutes. Daithi Geaney reduced the deficit with a Dingle point in the 21st minute. Gavin Tucker replied for Dr. Crokes and Dingle had further points in 25th from O’Neill and two from Devane in the 28th & 29th. Kieran O’Leary closed proceedings in the final minute with a free. We will be holding a series of blitzs. It was third time lucky for the Dr Crokes under 14 girls team when they took on the Legion in the East Kerry under 14 final played under lights last Thursday night to a large crowd of supporters. The teams had met twice already this year with our opponents wining both encounters. But the Dr.Crokes girls opened the scoring with two unanswered points but the legion game back at us strong and caught Katie Cronin off guard with a goal. But that was the last time as throughout the game she made some beautiful saves keep the Dr Crokes well in contention. With mid-field pairing of Megan Buckley and Megan Kiely working well together they where able to deliver some lovely ball into the forwards where Rheanne O'Shea had a brilliant game scoring some lovely points from long range. Jessica Edwards who played in the half-forward line was outstanding with her quick pass and great work rate also got her name on the score board. The girls started the second half 2 points up and with a great goal from Megan Kiely and points from Chloe O'Doherty and Megan Buckley the results was never in doubt. The full back line of Ashling Harrnet, Laura Maloney and Lauren O'Sullivan was outstanding well able to cope with anything our opponents threw at them. Karena O'Leary in her right half-back position was flawless in her marking . Elouise Mangan and Erica McCarthy had a great game in the half-back line which the Legion girls found hard to break threw. Emma Cronin started in the full-forward position which is a new position for her played superb. Due to injury some of our players where unable to play so a lot was asked of our younger team members Tara O'Shea ,Zoë O'Sullivan and Samantha Maros but they didn't let us down and are players to be watched in the future. Sarah Brosnan
the team captain was unable to play due to injury but was their to
cheer her team on and she offered them some good advice a half-time.
It was a fitting end to a long season well done. Final score

Many members took the opportunity to have photograph take with Sam, even some Cork natives were seen to be overly interested in what was them a rare glimpse at Mr. Maguire. Special thanks to vice chairman Seamie O’Doherty and Yogi who were in charge of the liquid refreshments. Events committee; as a club we are very fortunate and deeply indebted to have such a hard working group, within 48hours over last weekend they expertly organized those two functions. 24/10/07 Dr. Crokes 3-16 Laune Rangers 1-07. Dr. Crokes gained 2 valuable co. league points with a comfortable win over Laune Rangers on Sun. last. Dr. Crokes were quickly out of the blocks and opened the scoring in the 1st. minute with a point from Kieran O’Leary. Further points by James Fleming (2), Brian Looney, Jamie Doolan, Eoin Brosnan, and Shane Doolan left them leading after the opening quarter 0-07 to 0-00. Laune Rangers opening score came in the 18th minute when Liam Hassett found the net after Crokes failed to clear their lines. In the 21st minute Shane Doolan finished to net for a Dr. Crokes goal following a sweeping movement which began in their own full back line. Kevin Flynn had a point for Rangers in the 25th minute which proved to be their final score of the half, further points from Michael Moloney, Eoin Brosnan, and Jamie Doolan gave Dr. Crokes an interval lead of 1-10 to 1-01. Laune Rangers now playing with a strong breeze started the second half brightly and narrowed the deficit with a Pa. O`Sullivan point. Dr. Crokes keeper Kieran Cremin who had little to do up to now was called upon to make a fine save and immediately the ball was quickly moved to the other end and Jamie Doolan finished to net after being put in possession by O’Leary. Following another sweeping movement in the 13th minute corner back Michael Moloney got into the goal-scoring act when he finished to the net taking the final pass from Fleming to leave the score at this juncture 3-11 to 1-04. With the result now inevitable both sides added a few minors before the end. This was a wonderful team performance with Batt Moriarty, Gavin Tucker, and Michael Moloney particularly impressive at the back, Eoin Brosnan and Ambrose O’Donovan provided ampfull supply of ball at midfield and the forwards with Colm Cooper orchestrating events on the 40yards. Shane Doolan had a fine game at wing forward and our corner forwards Kieran O’Leary and Jamie Doolan fresh from his exploits in the previous days Minor final were always a threat. Team: Kieran Cremin, John Payne, Luke Quinn, Michael Moloney( 1-01), Batt Moriarty, Brian McMahon, Gavin Tucker, Eoin Brosnan(Capt.) Subs; Ian Howard, Michael O`Grady, James Jones, Edmund O`Sullivan. East Kerry Minor Final Dr. Crokes 1-09 Rathmore 1-07. on Saturday last in Fossa we overcame the strong challenge from Rathmore to win the minor championship. Both teams had earlier in the season contested the league final in which we were successful by a narrow margin so a close game was always going to be on the cards. We started brightly with a goal in the second minute when captain Jamie Doolan carved open our opponents defense and sent a blistering shot to the net. Our opponents who had the lion share of possession equalized by the eight minute with 3 unanswered points 2 from placed balls. the y then went ahead in the 10th minute with a well taken goal to lead 1-03 to 1-00. we gradually began to get more into the game and points from Shane O’Neill in the 15th minute, Ruairi Mangan in the 18th minute, Jamie Doolan in the 22nd. and 26th minute brought parity once again and when Philip O’Connor kicked over on the stroke of halftime it left us leading at short whistle by the minimum margin 1-05 to 1-04. on the resumption David O’Leary put us further in the opening minute with a point. Our opponents again took over and only for some terrible shooting and the resilience of our full back line they would have been well ahead. Scores were at a premium but then enter captain Jamie who at this stage was foraging far and wide and with two masterful intercepts kicked points in the 18th & 19th minute to give us a 2point cushion. Rathmore kept bringing the game to us and narrowed the gap to the minimum in the closing minutes and only for the tenacity and skill of our full back line of P.J. Lawlor, Jonathan Clarke, and Fionn Fitzgerald that kept them at bay. With time almost up David O’Leary kicked a long range effort to give the insurance. This was a game we could have easily lost as many of our players performed well below par and only for the aforementioned full back line and Jamie Doolan in the forwards we would have lost. Team: David Neeson, P.J.Lawlor, Jonathan Clarke, Fionn Fitzgerald, Niall O’Connell, Donal Cronin, Chris Egan, Johnny Buckley, Daithi Casey, David O’Leary (0-02), Ruairi Mangan(0-01), Shane O’Neill (0-01), Jamie Doolan (1-04), John Bartlett, Philip O’Connor (0-01). We went into overdrive for the rest of the half notching 1-08 without reply. Ardfert had a minor in the 29th minute and both teams swapped points before the break to leave us leading at the short whistle 1-11 to 0-04. our opponents had 1-04 without reply in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to leave just 3 points between the teams. It was nip and tuck for the next 15 minutes during which we scored 2 points and defended stoutly to deny our opponents a score. Ardfert finished the stronger with two late points and were narrowly wide with a blistering shot in the last minute which would have given them equality. After being in cruise control in the opening half that ensured a ten point interval lead we were on the back foot for a lot of the second half and just about deserved the spoils at the end. Goalkeeper David Neeson had another brilliant game Captain Bryan O’Donoghue, Ian Howard, and the outstanding Kevin Smyth were best in defense. Daithi Casey gave a man of the match performance at midfield, ably assisted by Johnny O`Sullivan, while in the forwards Ruairi Mangan, Brian Clarke, and David O’Leary were best. A special word of praise for the evergreen Tommy Brosnan who foraged all over the field to ensure this victory. 10/10/07 Senior Co. League Div. 1. Austin Stacks 1-11 Dr. Crokes 4-15. we gained 2 valuable points on Sun. last with a victory over Stacks. Scores were a premium in the early stages. A goal for Stacks in the 20th minute gave them a 3point advantage, this was the spur that we needed and we finished the stronger scoring a goal and 3points to lead at the break 1-07 to 1-04. Brian Looney being the goal scorer. On the resumption both teams exchanged points in the opening minutes but a crucial goal by Gavin Tucker in the 37th minute gave us a marked advantage. Further goals from James Fleming in the 47th minute and Kieran O’Leary in the 57th minute put the game out of our opponents reach. Subs: John Payne, Ian Howard. With 3 games left in the league we need full points to avoid relegation. East Kerry Minor S/f. Dr. Crokes 2-13 Spa 1-09. played in Kilcummin on Friday last we reversed last years result at the same stage of the E.K.M.C. with a well deserved victory over neighbors Spa. Both sides swapped points in the opening minute. We gradually took control and led 6pts. to 1pts. after the first quarter, our opponents were coming more into the game but the finishing was poor which left us with a lead at the break 0-09 to 0-03. some poor finishing and a number of tremendous saves by the Spa goalkeeper deprived us of a number of gilt edged chances in the opening half. On the resumption when the goal came it was of the lucky variety when Ruairi Mangan finished to the net after a Shane O’Neill shot came off the post. Our opponents to their credit did not drop the heads were winning the majority of possession and kept carrying the fight to our lads but a resolute defense where Donal Cronin was outstanding capably assisted by Fionn Fitzgerald P.J.Lawlor Chris Egan and Jonathan Clarke kept them at bay. Over elaboration by our forwards in the third quarter meant hard fought possession was not transformed into scores but when Shane O’Neill finished a well worked move to the net in the 18th. minute it killed the game as a contest. Aside from the aforementioned defenders Johnny Buckley and Daithi Casey had their moments at midfield while in the forwards Jamie Doolan, Ruairi Mangan, Philip O’Connor and Ruairi Mangan were best.
