GIRLS  U12 Co. League Final Dr Crokes   4. 11  Scartaglen  2. 10Our U12 Girls were crowned county U12 champions on Oct. 19 following a 7 point win over a gallant Scartaglen team.

Played in atrocious conditions under lights at Lewis Rd. the away team started the brighter notching up three unanswered points in the opening five minutes. The girls started to adapt to the conditions and put three points on the board to level matters. Scartaglen then struck two goals and rather than dip their heads the Crokes girls struck back with 3 goals coming from Sheodhna O Donoghue, Siobhan Burns and Lynne O Shea, we added four further points to leave the score 3.07 to 2.05 at half time.

The second half was a very even affair with both defences coming out on top, a further goal from Sheodhna O Donoghue and four points from Annie Potts compared to 5 points for the away team saw the girls prevail to claim the much coveted U 12 title.

Team captain Sheodhna O Donoghue accepted the cup on behalf of the team and thanked team trainer Paula for all her efforts in coaching them to their first title; she also thanked the supporters who braved the weather to cheer them on.

SENIOR CO. CHAMPIONSHIP S/FINAL Dr. Crokes 1-09 Feale Rangers 0-07.

We reached the AIB Co. final on Sunday last in Austin Stack Park with a 5 point victory over championship favourites Feale Rangers.

While we never reaching the heights of the q/final performance this victory was grounded out by a wonderful  team performance and a never say die attitude. In a tough and uncomprising but sporting game scoring was always going to be a premium.

Our defence after a somewhat shaky start got to grips with their opponents and gradually got on top, midfielders Ambrose O’Donovan and Johnny Buckley more than held their own and provided ample supply of ball to the attackers each of whom had the ability to beat their immediate opponent

It took a 43rd minute goal from David Moloney expertly set up by Colm Cooper to put  daylight between the sides.

So another Co. Final against South Kerry beckons on November 1 which ironically is the 123rd Anniversary of the founding of the Club. At the time of writing the venue and time has not been decided.

COISTE NA OG East Kerry U15 Dr. Crokes 3-15 Spa 2-12, it took an “outrageous” goal from Tony Brosnan mid way through the second half to change the course of this game. Up until then we seemed to play second fiddle to a stronger Spa side but in the final quarter we took the game to our opponents and finished the stronger.

U11 will participate in a tournament in Cork on Sunday next hosted by Na Piarsaigh Club.

BEST WISHES to Mark Egan, Cillian Fitzgerald, Michael Beckett, Chris Lawlor, Bryan O'Shea, Darragh Stack, Senan Lavery and Anthony Keogh who are on the East Kerry panel for Sundays U16 Co. final.

U14 HURLING BLITZ The Dr Croke’s inter-county U14 hurling blitz which was held on Saturday  Oct 17th was an outstanding success. With teams from Newtownshandrum and Kanturk (Cork), Tournafulla (Limerick) and Dr Crokes representing Kerry  the hurling  was  of a high standard and an enjoyable day was had by all.

The weather  was  excellent and the condition of the pitches  helped in producing a high standard  of hurling from all sides. All teams played four games and the  various skills of the game  were illustrated by all players.  We had some great  games with intense, but sporting rivalry. There were some good goals scored  and some  fine points  while the art of defending and goal keeping  was also on view. All four teams were evenly matched , however in the end  of the day the overall honours went to Newtownshandrum.

Their team was that bit  stronger  and  very skilful and these factors  proved decisive. The other three teams did well and played their part in a great day’s hurling.  This blitz is part of the learning process for our young hurlers and  the experience will stand to them in the future. The Dr Crokes Juvenile hurling committee would like to thank our three visiting clubs,  the referees, Paddy White and Sean Roche  and the  ladies who provided the refreshments  for the day. Go raibh maith agaibh go leir.

 Dr Crokes team:- T Foley, M Casey, L Byrnes, S Lyne, L Howe, J Ivory, S Hanafin, A Murphy, K Sullivan, C Twiss, K Murphy, G White, J Lenihan, M Burns, J O’Leary, I Hurley, C Doncel D Fleming, C McSharry, D Farrell, J Murphy, M O’Shea, P Clarke, J Billot, M O Buckley.

LIVE STREAMING Sundays transmission was again a major success with another large audience. This has been a major success for Dr. Crokes and for J.C.O`Shea of Studio 51 productions and the team. We will endeavour to expand and improve this facility which was initially put in place for our diaspora has now attracted a wider audience.

SENIOR CO. CHAAMPIONSHIP Q/F Dr. Crokes 5-17 St. Brendan`s 3 - 08. Wow! What a magnificent display. This was pure champagne football in the Austin Stack Park on Saturday last where each and everyone played to their potential.

Solid without being spectacular at the back, Johnny Buckley and Ambrose O’Donovan (before he retired injured) dominating the midfield exchanges providing the forward line with a plentiful supply of possession, and they were clinical in their finishing none more so than the iconic Colm Cooper who finished with a personal tally of 3-07. The concession of 3 goals may be a worry but I’ve no doubt management will address this issue during the week.

So on Sunday next October 18 we return to Austin Stack Park for the co. s/final where our opponents are Championship favourites Feale Rangers. Throw in 3.45pm. We urge all our supporters to travel and support your club.

DR. CROKES JUVENILE HURLING  - 2009 Autumn Hurling Promotions .

As part of   our on-going efforts to promote hurling in the Dr Crokes GAA Club and in the Killarney area generally, the hurling coaches in Dr Crokes GAA club have planned the following  events during October.

On Sunday Oct 11th our U10 and U12 hurling teams travelled to the famed Glen Rovers GAA club in Cork where we they played their U10 and U12 teams. This was a very exciting prospect for all our budding hurlers and  will be a great experience for them. Following the games we will travelled onto Pairc Ui Chaoimh  to see the Cork county  senior and intermediate hurling finals, which were  both exciting and entertaining. We feel that the exposure to hurling at this level, in addition to earlier trips this year to both Thurles and Croke Park will  benefit all our juveniles.

Saturday Oct 17th:- We are hosting our intercounty U 14 Blitz in Lewis Road. This blitz will include teams from Newtownshandrum -Cork, Tournafulla - Limerick, Lattin - Cullen- Tipperary and Dr Crokes. This will be a stern test of our U14’s who reached the county final this year, however we believe that by pitting ourselves against  teams from

other Munster counties we will improve our skills and foster hurling friendships that will be of benefit to us in the future. The action on Oct 17th will commence at 1pm.

The Kingdom’s Place in Gaelic Sporting History – Celebrating 125 Years of the G.A.A.”

CO. CHAMPIONSHIP DR. CROKES 0-16 LEGION 0-10.  We overcame the challenge of our local opponents with a six point win in this 3rd round Co. Championship game in the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday last and set up a q/final meeting with St. Brendan’s which is fixed for Austin Stack Park on Sat. next Oct. 10 with a 4pm throw in.

While we were well worth our six-point victory this was a poor game punctuated by two many stoppages hence we never witnessed any free flowing football. Victory in a local derby is always sweet but much improvement is needed if we are to progress in the championship.

LADIES MUNSTER Q/F Dr Crokes 4-1 Liscannor 3-06 Dr Crokes created history in Parteen in Limerick on Saturday evening by becoming the first Ladies side from the famous Killarney football club to reach a Munster club final.

Dr Crokes faced Clare Intermediate Champions Liscannor in the Munster Junior Ladies Club semi-final and they continued the good form that they displayed in their quarterfinal victory over Moycarkey/Borris.

In fact, they managed to match the 4-15 quarterfinal scoring totals again this weekend in a powerful attacking display.

The first half was a very dogged affair and the side were level at 2-3 to 1-6 at the interval. Rheanne O’Shea scored the Killarney’s side’s first half goal and the half time words of Crokes’ joint managers Catherine Keogh and James Fleming seemed to do the trick as Dr Crokes flew out of the blocks early in the second half.

A swift goal double by opportunist corner forward Marion O’Callaghan settled the Crokes nerves and they went on to completely dominate the second half. The team flourished due to a defensive tour de force from the likes of Katie Gleeson, Karina O’Leary, Edel O’Carroll and Emma Galvin.

The inter county duo of Mairead Finnegan and Cassandra Buckley dominated midfield and the Crokes forwards were unerring with Amanda Brosnan superb on the edge of the square.

The Kerry side now go on to face Cork champions Clonakilty in the Munster club final on the weekend of October 17/18. The West Cork side had a facile landslide victory over Dungarvan in the other Munster semi-final on Sunday.

Dr Crokes: Marie Cahillane, Karina O’Leary, Lyn Jones, Edel O’Carroll, Joanne Spillane (0-1), Katie Gleeson, Emma Galvin, Mairead Finnegan (0-5), Cassandra Buckley (0-1), Caoimhe Willis, Rheanne O’Shea (1-3), Laura Buckley (1-3), Mags Cronin, Amanda Brosnan, Maura O’Callaghan (2-1) Subs: Edel Cronin, Megan Buckley (0-1), Jessica Edwards, Chloe Doherty, Aisling Stack,

COISTE NA OG U12 East Kerry Final DR. CROKES 2-12 SPA 1-06  Congratulations to our wonderful U12 team who completed the county and divisional double on Thursday night at Fitzgerald Stadium against a very strong Spa side.
All one can say is it was an awesome display of football in which their was an abundance of talent, heart and determination from a team who put in a huge effort to capture this trophy.
The game itself was at a very fast pace in which we pushed Spa back onto the back foot and went in at half-time with a lead of 1.9 to 0.3.

Spa took control for a time in the second half and without panicking our gallant team weathered the storm to finish the game very strongly, in what was a truly complete performance.
Tony Clifford commanded his goal line brilliantly with the full back line of Michael Owen Buckley, Paul Clarke, Creagh Courtney not conceding an inch, the half-back line of Mark O Shea, Jack Lenihan and Gavin White dominated their territory and were a force going forward. Our mid-field pairing of Dylan O Sullivan and Billy Courtney ran every blade of grass. The half-forward line of David Shaw, Adam O Shea and Michael Casey ran at the Spa defence and picked off some wonderful scores and our full forward line of Brian Fitzgerald, John Kerrisk and Dion Marcos were a constant threat.

With Oisin Shannon, Killian Fleming, David Hartnett, John Harrington, David Naughton, Shane O Connor, Conor Harrington, David Rae, Murt O` Shea, Jack O Connor, Brendan Coppinger, and Patrick Courtney we able bunch of lads ready be called into action.
In what was a memorable night for these talented young stars, we say the future of the Black and Amber is looking very good.
Our thanks to Spa on the night and no doubt, we will have many more great games in the future. A big thank you to the parents and supporters who really came in behind the team and to the mentors Noel White, Joe Shannon, Frank Shaw, Jimmy Coppinger, Frank Courtney and Ger O Shea well done for all the time and effort put in since last March.

PASSING ON THE TORCH Dr Crokes Under age  Blitz, Kerry may have 36 All Ireland Senior Football Titles but arrangements are already in place for titles 42, 43 & 44 to be achieved in a decade’s time!

On Saturday 3 Oct 2009 at Lewis Rd, Dr Crokes hosted underage teams from Listowel , John Mitchell’s & Kerins O Rahillys.

In all, 16 teams were fielded in 4 age categories, under 7, 8, 9 & 10’s.

With Dr Crokes facilities allowing eight pitches to be in operation, play was ongoing for more than 2 hours, each team playing three matches in a mini league format.

The emphasis was on enjoyment and participation and this goal was achieved. These young stars were oblivious to the adverse weather conditions and the talent, skills and sportsmanship displayed were exemplary, with all the children contributing to their respective teams. The future of Kerry football is secure given the exhibition of fielding, kicking off both feet and scoring prowess these young talents displayed in driving rain.

A special visitor, taking time out from his busy schedule was Kerry Captain Darren O Sullivan. Darren spoke words of encouragement to all the participants and his interest in their development was very much appreciated by the children, their parents and team mentors.

Credit is due to all who contributed to a very successful sporting occasion and it is hoped to repeat the event and rotate the host venue in the future.

U12 GIRLS Our U12 Girls remain unbeaten and thus have qualified for the county final with an emphatic win over Duagh at Lewis Road.

Despite having only 14 players available for various reasons, they continued their dominance with a 16-point victory following a wonderful all round team performance. We lead at half time 3.06 t0 0.04 scores coming from Sheodhna O Donoghue (2.04) and Siobhan Burns (1.02).

We were slow to get going in the second half, in fact our first score only came in the tenth minute after severe pressure from Duagh in which time our back line stood firm and we finished with a tally of 4.12 following further scores from Lynn O Shea (1.01) Sheodhna O Donoghue (0.03) Deirdre Sheahan (1.00) Annie Potts (1.00) Siobhan Byrnes ( 0.01) and Olga Ryan (0.01).
