Dr Crokes    V   St Brendans

All Ireland Club Quarter Final (Played in Ruislip on Sunday 28th January 2007)

       Dr Crokes  2-12 ------------St Brendans(London)  0-5

After a disappointing first half display in which we failed to turn territorial supremacy into scores we got our act together in the second half and ran out convincing winners.Credit however must be given to our opponents for their first half display when they made scoring difficult for us with their tenacious tackling and skilful distribution of the ball against the stiff breeze. We played much better against the breeze in the second half and a few early scores gave us a seven point lead which we nearly doubled before the final whistle.

St Brendans opened the scoring after two minutes and we equalized in the seventh minute. The teams swopped points before the end of the first quarter to leave the teams level at two points each. Considering that we were playing with a strong breeze it left us in a very vulnerable position. We added on three points without reply in the next ten minutes to leave us three points in front. The teams had a point each in the remaining minutes to leave the score 0-6 to 0-3 in our favour at half time.

This was by no means a match winning lead as we would have to face the strong wind in the second half.

We got a dream start after the change over with a goal and a point in the first five minutes, the major an expertly taken penalty by Colm Cooper. Our opponents added on two points to our one in the next ten minutes to reduce the deficit to six points. We got well on top after this and scored a goal and four points without reply before the final whistle.

Full credit to St Brendans who never gave up trying and did not deserve to be beaten by thirteen points. For a change we played our best football in the second half as in the last few games our scoring rate in this period has been dismal.
