Senior Football County League Match Reports

  Division 1 - County League - Round 11.

Dr Crokes  3-7  ------- Milltown  1-10(Played in Lewis Rd on Sunday 19th Nov06)

Even though we won our last game in the County League Division 1 we were still pipped by one point to qualify for the final. Our final tally of 14 points left us in third place. The game was however a very good work out for next Sundays Munster Club championship semi final against Nemo Rangers.

We had the breeze in the first half of a game that was played in atrocious weather. Even though we had the first score of the game , a point in the first minute Milltown went ahead with two points in the next few minutes. This was the only time in the game that they led. Aided by the elements and three goals , two by Eoin Brosnan and one by Colm Cooper we were ahead by nine points going into the last minute of the half. Our opponents however struck for a good goal in injury time to leave us six points ahead at the interval.

Points were exchanged twice in the first ten minutes of the second half and a point by Edmund O'Sullivan in the 52nd minute put us seven points clear. This was our last score of the game. Milltown added on four minors to leave just three points between the teams at the end.

Division 1- County League - Round 10.

Dr Crokes 3-5  ------- Kerins O'Rahillys 0-9 (Played in Tralee on Friday 8th Sept 06)

We got back on winning ways with a five point win over Kerins O'Rahillys at Tralee. We made good use of the strong breeze in the first half and two early goals gave us the start we needed against the League leaders. The game was played at championship pace from the outset and our tally of 2-3 at the break gave us a five point lead.

It was no certainty that this lead was going to be enough but our players got stuck in more than in any other game this year.Even though the Blues narrowed the gap to three points midway through the second half a goal a few minutes later by Andrew Kennelly put us six points clear going into the last ten minutes. We were in control in the closing stages, scoring two points and happy not to concede a goal and restrict theO'Rahillys to three points.

Division 1 County League-  Round 6          Dr Crokes 1-7 --- Listowel  Emmets  0-9

After a lack lustre display we collected two points and kept ourselves in contention in the County league Division 1.With the breeze at our back we made the early running but sloppy passing and indifferent shooting left us just a goal ahead at the interval, 1-4 to 0-4.

Listowel were on top in the second half  but some heroic defending gave us a flattering one point win.

We were served well in defence by goalkeeper  Kieran Cremin, Vince Cooper, James Cahillane and John Payne. Best in attack were James Fleming, Kieran O'Leary and David Moloney.

Team and Scorers; Kieran Cremin; Shane Doolan, Luke Quinn, Keith McMahon; Bryan O'Donoghue, James Cahillane, John Payne; Kieran Brosnan, Batt Moriarty; David Moloney 0-1, Andrew Kennelly, James Fleming 0-4(0-3frees), Kieran O'Leary 1-2, Vince Cooper, Brian Looney.------Subs; Ambrose O'Donovan.

Division 1 County League --- Round 7 --- Dr Crokes 1-13 --- Castl Desmonds  3-6.(Played in Lewis Rd on Saturday 12th July)

Even though we triumphed over Desmonds by the minimum margin in round 7 of the County League our mentors could not have been happy with our display. We continued right throughout the game to score hard earned points but found it difficult to keep out the major scores(three in all) because of our inability to defend against the height advantage of our opponents.

Our opponents enjoyed parity at the break because of goals they scored in the 7th and 29th minutes to give them a tally of 2-1 to our 0-7.

In the early minutes of the second half Desmonds added on a goal and a point and considering they enjoyed wind advantage they were very much in the driving seat. We had our best period of the game in the next twenty minutes, scoring 1-6 to our opponents single point. This left us three points ahead going into the last five minutes.Desmonds however rallied strongly with three unanswered points to level the scoring going into the last minute. Vince Cooper gave us victory with a point on the stroke of time. Our opponents probably deserved a point from the fixture.

The game was a personal triumph for Kieran O'Leary who contributed 1-6.

Team and Scorers: Kieran Cremin, Keith McMahon, Luke Quinn, Shane Doolan; Batt Moriarty, James Cahillane, John Payne; Ambrose O'Donovan, Kieran Brosnan; David Moloney 0-2, Andrew Kennelly 0-1, James Fleming 0-1, Kieran O'Leary 1-6(0-2frees), Vince Cooper 0-1, Brian Looney 0-2.

 Division 1 County League ----- Round 8

Dr Crokes 1-11 -------- Ghaeltacht 0-18 (Played in Lewis Rd on Sat August 26th)

Five unanswered points in the first ten minutes of the second half by our opponents and five more points by them to our one made them worthy winners of this County League tie.

We made most of the running in the first half and enjoyed a four point lead after twenty five minutes. The West Kerry lads finished the half the stronger with three points to leave us a point in front at the interval.

Ghaeltacht had five points without reply to put them four points ahead by the 40th minute. We got on top in the next ten minutes and were on level terms by the 20th minute. Our opponents however finished the stronger, scoring five points to our one for a deserved victory.

We played second fiddle to our opponents in this game because of their ability to win the breaking ball around midfield and because of the ten point contribution of Dara O Cinneide who scored ten points(eight from frees).

Team and Scorers: Kieran Cremin, Shane Doolan, Luke Quinn, Keith McMahon; Brian O'Donoghue, James Cahillane, John Payne; Ambrose O'Donovan, Batt Moriarty(0-1); David Moloney 0-1, Andrew Kennelly 1-0, James Fleming 0-3; Kieran O'Leary 0-6, Vince Cooper, Brian Looney. ----Subs; Mike Moloney, Kieran Brosnan, Nicholas Murphy, Jamie Doolan.

Division 1- County League ------- Round 9

Dr Crokes 1-7  ------------ Gneeveguilla 0-12(Played in Gneeveguilla on Sat 2nd Sept 06)

We lost our second County League in a row when we went down to Gneeveguilla by two points on last week end. While we could argue that this was a game we could have won,I feel the home team deserved the two points because they were better than us at scoring points. We also tend to lose our concentration during games and were not competitive early in the game when our opponents scored five unanswered points and again late in the game when they added on three points to a two point lead and made our task of winning a difficult one.We did dominate the closing stages but fell short by two points at the final whistle.

Our opponents started the better and raced into a five point lead. We had to rely on a Nicholas Murphy goal and a 45 from Brian Looney to keep us just four points in arrears at the interval

We started the better in the second half and scored three points to our opponents one but were dominated again in the next fifteen minutes and fell five points in arrears with eight minutes to go. The closing minutes belonged to us as we added on three points but could not break down a stubborn Gneeveguilla defence for the victory goal.

Team and Scorers;Kieran Cremin, Shane Doolan 0-1, Luke Quinn, Keith McMahon; Batt Moriarty, James Cahillane, John Payne; Ambrose O'Donovan, Kieran Brosnan 0-1; Johnny O'Sullivan, Nicholas Murphy 1-1, James Fleming 0-1; Kevin Smyth, Andrew Kennelly, Brian Looney 0-2(0-1- 45).

Subs; Michael O'Donoghue 0-1, Ian Howard.
