Senior County
Championship Quarter Final.
South Kerry 1-16 -------- Dr Crokes
1-10.(Played in Killorglin on Saturday14/07/07)
We made our exit from
the 2007 County Championship, going under to the holders
South Kerry on Saturday the 14th July in
Killorglin. While our lads gave their all they were
playing second fiddle on the night to a team who would
match up to several Inter County sides. We did put
pressure on them after half time and got within two
points of our opponents at the three quarter stage. They
however finished the stronger and were full value for
their six point win.
We can take some
positives from the game .Our score of 1-10 would have
won last years County Final and it was a higher score
than that registered in the other three Quarter
Finals. The loss of Brian McMahon and Eanna Kavanagh from
last years team did not help our cause.
We got off to a good
start and were in front 0-3 to 0-2 after eight
minutes.South Kerry quickly equalised and had a crucial
goal in the 13th minute. When they added on three points
in as many minutes it left us six points in arrears and
with a mountain to climb. We were a bit unlucky a few
minutes later , Colm Cooper's shot being cleared off the
line by the corner back.It was nip and tuck for the rest
of the half as we scored three points to their two to
leave us 1-9 to 0-7 behind at the break.
South Kerry started the
second half the better with two points. We did not
however lie down but upped our game, scoring 1-2 without
reply to get within two points of our opponents at the
three quarter stage. This was however as near as we got
as they were well on top in the last quarter, outscoring
us four points to one for a deserved six point victory.

Dr. Crokes 1-16 Legion 0-09(Played in Fitzgerald
Stadium on Sunday 10th June at 7pm)
We got through to the Quarter Final of the Senior County
Championship by virtue of a ten point victory in the local
derby against Legion. While we might have been flattered
with the margin of our victory some positives could be taken
out of our display.Eight of our players got on the
scoresheet; seven of them scored from play; nine of the
seventeen players who participated were under 21 and
1-11 of our total was registered from play.
The game was very evenly contested in the first twenty
minutes with the scores level at 0-3 each. The turning point
of the game came in the next two minutes when we added on
1-1, the goal a volley by David Moloney from a centre by
Eoin Brosnan. This four point lead we at least maintained for
the remainder of the game. We added three points to our
opponents one before the interval to go in at the break 1-7
to 0-4 in front although we could be thankful to Gavin
Tucker for making a goal line clearance on the stroke of
half time.
Points were exchanged on several occasions in the first
twenty minutes of the second half. We went into the last
eight minutes of the game 1-12 to 0-9 in front. Experience
and probably our fitness level from several hard campaigns
over the last few years enabled us to dominate the remaining
minutes and add on four unanswered points for victory on a
score line of 1-16 to 0-9.
Our best players on the day were Gavin Tucker, Michael
Moloney, Batt Moriarty, Ambrose O'Donovan, Brian Looney,
Kieran O'Leary and James Fleming.

----------- Dingle 0-7 (1st Round)
Played in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday 13th May at
7o'clock.
Manager John Galvin and
his selectors Colm O'Shea and Mark Cooper got their team
off to a good start in the Senior County Championship.
The win over Dingle might not have been as a result of a
vintage Croke display but the bottom line was to advance
to the last sixteen and this they did with a solid
performance. Our opponents were not easy to shake off and
didn't deserve to to lose by nine points. Their
shortcoming was their inability to put the ball between
the post when the chances presented themselves.
As far as we were
concerned there were positives to take out of the game,
the fact that ten of our players got on the scoring
sheet and and that our four debutants . Johnnie Buckley,
Mike O'Grady, Gavin Tucker and Jamie Doolan all had good
games.
We opened the scoring
after thirty seconds but Dingle equalised two minutes
later. Our opponents didn't get their next score until
the 30th minute , in a period in which we put on five
points to go in at half time in the lead 0-6 to 0-2,
albeit down to fourteen men.
We had the first score
of the second half , a David Moloney point.Minors were
then exchanged but two points by us in the 37th and 40th
minute gave us a seven point cushion. Dingle had their
best period in the next ten minutes . scoring three
unanswered points. The lead was now down to four points
but our opponents rally seemed only to spur us on to
greater effort as we added on six points to Dingle's one
and victory by nine points.
While the whole
eighteen who played acquitted themselves well we had
outstanding displays from Kieran Cremin, Mike Moloney,
Luke Quinn, Ambrose O'Donovan, Eoin Brosnan and David
Moloney.
