Dr Crokes 1-08
G/Guilla 0-11(11/11/07) Round 11(Played
in Gneeveguilla on Sunday 11th November)
In a game that was meaningless for us
as regards our final position in the County League our
lads played with great intensity. Any result in this
game would not qualify us for either a top two position
or relegate us. It's true that we lined out under
strength ; Eoin Brosnan and Colm Cooper were away , the
former in Chicago with the Sam Maguire and the latter in
London; Batt Moriarty and Ambrose O'Donovan did not
travel down from Portlaoise as they have been down for
games four times in the last five weeks; Luke Quinn got
injured in the under 21 Club semi-final 24 hours
earlier. In fact eight of our players who started this
County League game had played in the under 21 the day
before.
The game was very even in the first
half but we turned our possession into scores the better
notching six
points to our opponents four.
Gneeveguilla were the better team for
most of the second half as the exertions of the previous
day were catching up with some of our players.By the
55th minute they had turned their half time deficit of
two points into a three point lead, scoring six points
to our one. When all looked lost we rallied with a goal
and had a lead point on the stroke of full time. In a
last ditch attack our opponents sent over an injury time
equaliser.

Dingle 0-09---28/10/07-----(Played in Lewis
Road)-Round 10.
We continued on our winning way with a
good twelve point win over Dingle. There is no danger of
us now being relegated. We could in fact finish in third
place if we win our final game against Gneeveguilla.
Dingle were dealt a major blow before
a ball was kicked being forced to line out without their
influential player Tommy Griffin. To compound their
problems Eoin Brosnan and Ambrose O'Donovan were
both in great form, the former helping himself to two
goals before his half time retiral and the latter
emerging as my man of the match.
The teams exchanged points in the
first five minutes. A goal by Shane Doolan in the ninth
minute after great play by his brother Jamie followed by
a point by James Fleming left us four points ahead after
ten minutes. Dingle had a point in the 12th minute to
reduce the deficit but this turned out to be their last
score of the first half. We scored 2-3 before the break,
the two goals coming from Eoin Brosnan to leave us 3-5
to 0-2 in front at the interval.
The second half was much more even.,
in fact both teams scored seven points.Dingle to their
credit never gave up but we were always in control in
the vital midfield sector, Johnny Buckley doing well
after replacing Eoin Brosnan and Ambrose O'Donovan
continuing to shine. Our opponents despite their brave
efforts were never going to overturn our half time lead
of twelve points.

(21/10/07)(Played in Lewis Road on Sunday 21st Oct)
Round 10.
Giving a display reminiscent of our
previous one against Austin Stacks in this competition
we ran out comfortable winners against Laune Rangers. We
played throughout at great pace and our final score of
3-16 gave us a total aggregate of 7-30 in these last two
games .
Aided by the strong breeze we were
well on top in the early stages, scoring seven
unanswered points by the thirteenth minute. Our
opponents struck with a good Liam Hassett goal in the
18th minute to leave just four points between the sides
despite our early dominance.Three minutes later we had a
Shane Doolan goal after his brother Jamie did the
spadework. We got well on top again in the last ten
minutes of the half, scoring three points to our
opponents one to lead at the interval 1-11 to 1-1.
Laune Rangers now had the wind in
their favour and had the first score of the second half,
a point in the 33rd minute. Jamie Doolan had a goal two
minutes later to leave us a whopping twelve points in
front. Our opponents living up to their tradition never
gave up trying but a goal by Mike Moloney in the 43rd
minute ended the game as a contest. We had five points to
Laune Rangers three in the last quarter to leave us
winners at the end 3-16 to 1-7.

Dr Crokes 4-15 Austin
Stacks 1-11 (07/10/07)(Played in Lewis Road on
Sunday 7th Oct 07) Round 9.
At half time when we led by three
points one would never have thought that we would go on
to win by thirteen points. An injury to Kieran Donaghy
in the pre-match warm up was a major blow to the Stacks
. From our point of view ours was a very good display,
with eight players getting on the scoring sheet and all
of our scores except for three points were from play.
The teams exchanged a brace of
points in the first ten minutes. We went ahead with two
points before the end of the first quarter. Our
opponents had a good spell in the next five minutes,
levelling with two points and then goaling in the 20th
minute. We finished the half the stronger, equalising
with three points and scoring a great goal by Brian
Looney in the 30th minute to go in at half time 1-7 to
0-7 in front.
The sides exchanged two points on the
resumption.A point from Eoin Brosnan and a goal from
Gavin Tucker in the 37th minute put us seven points
clear. The teams added on two points each in the next
eight minutes to leave us still seven points clear at
the threequarter stage. A goal by James Fleming in the
47th minute virtually ended the game as a contest.
Stacks kept plugging away and added on three unanswered
points to reduce the deficit but three points from us
without reply and a Kieran O'Leary goal a few
minutes from time gave us victory by thirteen points.

Round 7 -----Dr Crokes
2-7 -------- Listowel Emmets 1-10 (Played
in Listowel on Friday 27th July)
Our substitutions played a big part in this
drawn County League game against Listowel. While we were
lucky in the end to get a last minute equaliser we could
also point to an amount of squander mania in the first
half when we shot eight wides and had only two points on
the score board to our opponents five at half time.
Listowel backboned by half the Feale Rangers
team were much more economical in their shooting than us
in the first half.We registered double their amount of
wides in this period and one wondered at half time where
our scores were going to come from in the second half to
reduce the three point deficit.
The team as a whole improved in the second half
and a bonus for us was that our substitutes Gavin Tucker
and Edmond O'Sullivan had our two goals, the latters
coming in injury time. We did take the lead through the
first goal in the 37th minute but a Listowel goal
followed by a brace of points left them ahead by three
points with time running out. Edmund O'Sullivan's goal
in time added on however gave us a share of the points.

A speedy recovery to James Cahillane who was
playing very well until he got injured.
Round 6 ---------- Milltown/
Castlemaine 1-5 ----- Dr Crokes 0-5(
Played in Milltown on Sat 23rd June)
In a low scoring game we went under to
Milltown in Round 6 of the County League. The points on
offer were valuable to both sides as they struggled to
get out of the bottom quarter of the table. We had every
chance of winning the game but when you clock up in
excess of twenty wides you can't say you were unlucky.
The Mid Kerry sides goal in the 25th minute after a good
passing movement was the difference between the sides at
the end and deservedly gave them the two points.
Milltown had two points in the first ten minutes. We
had to wait until the 11th minute to register our first
score, a point by James Fleming. Brian Looney equalised
four minutes later but we had to wait for another
fifteen minutes for our next score , a point from a free
by Kieran O'Leary.Five minutes prior to this Milltown
had struck for the decisive score of the game, a goal in
the 25th minute. Our opponents went in at the interval
1-3 to 0-3 in front( they had also kicked a point three
minutes previous to the goal).
Both sides only managed two points each in the
second half and both failed to score in the last fifteen
minutes as their tallies of wides increased. We
registered our scores in the 5th and 10th minutes and
our opponents got the ball between the upright in the
10th and 15th minute.

I don't think we should play any of
our remaining five games without our County players. We
are already depleted enough since last year without
having to play these vital games without four or five
more players.

Rathmore V Dr Crokes
Round
5 ------ Rathmore 3-9 --------
Dr Crokes 0-13 (Played in Rathmore on Sat 16th
June)
In a game in which both teams were
short a number of key players the locals emerged
victorious by five points. The difference between the
sides was Rathmore's ability to score goals(three in
all). Our ability to score goals has been the reason this
team of ours has won so many games in the past few years
but we failed to threaten our host's goal on this
occasion. We have now scored forty five points and just
one goal in three games. This is not a usual statistic
of ours but if we could now combine this amount of point
scoring with our goal scoring expertise of the past we
would become a formidable team.
We started brightly and had two points
without reply in the first four minutes. Our opponents
quickly equalised and then added on a goal
to go three points clear. In the second quarter Rathmore
added on three points to our two to go in at half time
1-5 to 0-4 ahead.
The home team had the first score of
the second half, a point but in the next eight minutes
we had our most productive period, shooting six
unanswered points to go in to a one point lead. In the
next few minutes Rathmore had the ball in the back of
our net for the second time. The teams exchanged points
in the next few minutes. but the eventual winners struck
for their third goal in the 20th minute and there was no
way back for us after that. Both sides had two points
each before the end to leave Rathmore worthy winners by
five points.

----------Kerins O'Rahillys 1-10(Played in
Lewis Road on Saturday 26th May).
In a game in which neither side
deserved to lose we shared the points with our Tralee
opponents. We had the first point of the game after five
minutes but O'Rahillys who were slow to settle had three
points to our one by the twentieth minute to go two
points in front. We had the last two points of the half
to gain equality at half time on a score of four points
each.
We had a dream start to the second
half with a goal in the 31st minute. The teams exchanged
points on three occasions in the next fifteen minutes to
leave us still a goal ahead and looking good for the two
points. The game took a dramatic turn in the fiftieth
minute when the visitors had an equalising goal. They
added on two points in as many minutes and were very
much in the driving seat. We fought back straight away
however and a movement the length of the field
culminated in a great goal to leave us the minimum ahead
with five minutes to go. Our opponents however were not
going to be denied and hit back with the equaliser two
minutes from time. This was the last score of the game, a
game in which both sides were probably happy to have
secured a point.
Our best players on the night were
Mike Moloney, Batt Moriarty, Brian McMahon, Ambrose
O'Donovan, Brian Looney, Kieran O'Leary and Jamie

Round 3
----- An Ghaeltacht 1-17----- Dr Crokes 1-6.
(Played in Gallarus on Saturday 28th April)
We suffered one of our
heaviest defeats in the County League in many years,
going under to An Ghaeltacht by eleven points in Round 3
of the competition. It's true we were missing five of
our All Ireland team but our opponents were missing the
two Dara's. What was disappointing about the defeat was
that we threw in the towel long before the finish when a
more fight to the finish attitude would have made the
scoreline much more respectable. Against that the team
has been on the go all year round for three years ,so
when our chance of winning is gone our players may be
conserving their energy for another day.
With the aid of the
breeze our opponents were quickly into their stride and
were up 1-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes. We owned the ball
in the next ten minutes and got within a point of the
West Kerry boys by the 20th minute. The remaining
minutes of the half belonged to our opponents who added
on four points without reply to go in at half time 1-8
to 1-3 in front.
Considering the
severity of the breeze this was not an insurmountable
lead but we unfortunately fared poorer with the wind at
our backs scoring just three points to An Ghaeltacht's
nine and suffering an eleven point defeat. We can point
to some close misses for goals but we were also lucky
that our goalkeeper Kieran Cremin was in such great
form.

Round 1
Dr Crokes 0-11 -------
Ardfert 0-08 (Played Lewis Rd Sunday 22nd April 07)
In this our second game in the
competition we the All Ireland Senior Finalists had a
three point win over Ardfert this years All Ireland
Intermediate winners.
We had the first point of the game in
the 2nd minute but two points from our opponents had
them a point ahead after eight minutes. The teams
exchanged points in the next two minutes but four
unanswered points, two by James Fleming and two from
Brian Looney, put us three points ahead after 20
minutes. Both sides kicked two points in the last ten
minutes of the half to leave us 0-8 to 0-5 ahead at the
interval.
It was nip and tuck right through the
second half with both sides being guilty of bad wides. We
however maintained at least a two point lead right
through the thirty minutes. We went into a four point
lead just after the resumption but Ardfert added on two
points to cut the deficit to two points. This was as
close as they got to us on the scoreboard as we had a
poor return of two points to their paltry one in the
last twenty minutes to leave us winners 0-11to 0-8.

Round 4
--- Dr Crokes 1-11 ------ Kilcummin 1-11(Played in
Lewis Rd on Sunday 15th April 07)
While
Kilcummin could consider themselves unlucky not
to have taken both points they can only blame
themselves for failing to keep out a last minute
equalising goal from a free by Eoin Brosnan and
a share of the points for his team. It did not
look it was going to be our day when we hit the
crossbar and post in the last five minutes but
over the hour our opponents shaded the
exchanges.
Kilcummin went into the lead in the 4th
minute and were never in arrears right through
the sixty minutes.We equalised a minute later.It
was nip and tuck for the rest of the half, our
opponents going ahead by a point on five
occasions and we equalising each time to leave
the sides level at five points each at the
interval.
The pattern of the game changed very little
in the first ten minutes of the second half ,
our opponents scoring two points without reply
and we drawing level with two unanswered points.
It seemed as if the defining moment of the game
had come at the threequarter stage when Michael
O'Connor went through for a well taken goal. The
teams exchanged three points each in the fourth
quarter to leave Kilcummin a goal in front going
into injury time. Then came Eoin Brosnan's great
shot from a free which hit the back of the
net.Even allowing for the great delivery we were lucky that it went through a goal
line defended by more than ten players.
