K.O`Rahillys 2-03 Dr. Crokes 1-17. We had a comprehensive victory over
Rahillys in this opening fixture of the co. league on Saturday last.
Both sides lined out without regulars Quirke & Moran for Rahillys and
Cooper and O’Leary for Dr. Crokes we dominated in every sector but
especially at midfield.
The Crokes pairing of the experienced Eoin Brosnan and the youthful
Johnny Buckley simply outclassed the opposition who played second fiddle
all evening.
With the advantage of the wind in the opening half we took the game by
the scruff off the neck from the throw in dominating in all sectors and
led after eight minutes 0-06 to 0-00. Eoin Brosnan opened the
floodgates, in the first minute and points followed from Brian Looney
(3), Shane Myers, and Luke Quinn.
O’Rahillys in only their second attack goaled in the 11th minute to
narrow the gap. However Crokes resumed their point taking with Daithi
Casey converting free in the 12th minute and further points by Looney
and Andrew Kennelly had Crokes 0-9 to 1-0 clear by the 16th minute and
the game looked over as a contest.
O’Rahillys had only a couple of sporadic attacks, while at the other
end, Daithi Casey and Brian Looney with fifth point of the half
completed our total.
Quill converted an injury free for O’Rahillys after Walsh was fouled but
with Dr Crokes leading 0-11 to 1-1 at the interval, it looked an almost
impossible task for the Tralee side.
The early stages of the second half were going to be crucial for
O’Rahillys, but they just could not get going as Buckley continued to
reign supreme at midfield and points from Brian Looney and Shane O’Neill
In the 41st minute Andrew Kennelly found Shane O’Neill, who blasted the
ball to back of the O’Rahillys net and that was it, as Crokes led 1-13
to 1-1.
Faced with a hopeless task, O’Rahillys had nothing to offer but a Quill
point as Looney and Casey (free) added Crokes points O’Rahillys scored
their first point from play in the 56th minute. Crokes finished with two
more points as Declan Quill got a late consolation goal for the Tralee
